It's funny you should say that. Stand by because I
have an update.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Oh I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
No, Oh, Riches mandatory, must have my Dicky Doodle Dandies.

I'll explain what he's talking about the work.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Fair enough, Covino and Rich at Covino and Rich. Remember

Brand new episode dropped yesterday. We drop episodes like album drop,
we drop them, so check out episode fifty four, brand
new one.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yesterday.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
We talked about Kyle Philipowski, very controversial out of Duke,
Utah jazz little kid with a significantly older older girlfriend.
And we talked about must haves at the BBQ and
movies that stood the test of time, the anniversary of
Back to the Future, and we're going back in time

(01:10):
right now. Old School Win fifty hits. We do it
every Thursday, and this one has to do with the
eighties we're in the eighties sort of vibe back to
the future anniversary. Also forty years of Karate Kid. This
past month, you got Beverly Hills Cop back that came
out in eighty four. Rich you were, you were doing

(01:31):
the Footloos dance back then.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
You know what freaked me out?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I looked up when the third one was because you know,
yesterday axel f the new Beverly Hills Cop is on Netflix.
The third wasn't ninety four, which means there was a
thirty year gap in between Beverly Hills Cop three and
the new one.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
So yeah, at Eddie Murphy's back.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
So Kevin Bacon's in that movie. And I brought up
Footloots because Footloose and Beverly Hills Cop came out the
same year. And you know, we're in the eighties vibe
when people were breakdancing and break dancings making a major comeback.
You may not have seen it yet, but this is
our pro dick shown Now. Look, people are dancing and

(02:09):
popping in locking and dancing. Is dancing's on a level
that didn't exist. Well, I look at it this way.
I think it's generational. I think it's generational and I'm
like I graduated at high school in ninety four and
my generation in New Jersey, we were just holding up
our drinks, sort of bopp into the music. We weren't
dancing disco dancing like our parents were. But kids today

(02:31):
many they can't stop dancing, right, They're always dancing, doing
some weird dancing.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
It went.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
It went from our parents they got dance fisco dancing
to us standing on these separate sides of the gym.
Girls on one side, boys on the other. And it
was like, I don't want anyone to see me dance,
and now.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Watch watch me.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I'm on social media. I got a little routine boys
and girls. Though it's crazy, what's up to anyj one?

Speaker 5 (02:58):
I was thinking about in We talked about this just
the other day because you're watching The Golden Dude on
is it Netflix?

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh? Ken?

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Golden Ken Golden came of collectibles? Yeah, during COVID what
made a major comeback? Collectibles, memorabilia, baseball cards, baseball card
should have never went out of style. Though, you know what,
that's a great one. Let me just tell the story.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Real Quick Breakdancing is set to make its debut at
the Paris Olympics. And we've been talking about this for years,
so we're thinking, you know, Breakdancer was always kind of cool.
It's cool to see that it's going to make a comeback.
What was cool that should have never went out of style?
And I'm with you. Baseball cards, dude. Nothing brought me
more joy as what was that pocket?

Speaker 6 (03:43):
Rich?

Speaker 4 (03:43):
I mean, it's probably different for everybody, but like twelve
to four, Like once fourteen hit and I took Don
Mattingly down and I put Cindy Crawford up in my bedroom.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
My mom cried. It was a big day.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
I just gave up baseball cards and found women. I
think when you discovered when and girls to the next level,
that's when your love of baseball cards. I'd say the
pocket was what eleven to like fourteen? Not even not
even what was it? I was, I was doing the math.
I was trying to think what was my pocket of
baseball cards? So I'm thinking, I nineteen eighty seven was

(04:18):
the wood border.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Tops, right? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I was seven in nineteen eighty seven, so.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
And you were in on it at seven.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
I because that was like the first baseball card.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I really they were hot.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Then eighty six eighty seven, that was like their major comeback.
By the nineties, they started mass producing them again and
they started losing their value.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah, I was gonna say by ninety two ninety three,
I was like, yeah, I'm sort of done and I
was thirteen. So for me seven to thirteen, and then
you discover girls and other things.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Baseball cards, man, and what you talked about, Yeah, women
definitely read baseball cards.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
When you talk video killed the radio star, and I
think social media killed the radio star. And nowadays women
killed baseball cards. They did, they really did. These people
say mass production, Nah, women, women killed it.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
For me, things that that you did when you stop
collecting baseball cards, we're talking about things that were cool
that you know they should never went out of style. Hey,
maybe it makes a comeback here or there. But I
feel like some of my first moments with girls, when
I was like a young teen, we'd go to the
roller skating rink and I was doing couple skates to

(05:31):
boys to men, and that.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Was that's the first time I held the girl's hand.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Answer, that was the first time I that was the
first time I kissed a girl.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
But when I met a girl at the roller skat
It's funny though Rich because I know spot is on
the edge of the seat ready to tell you. If
you go to a roller skating rink, it's packed, it
really is. And there's always one dude. There's always one
guy who's gotten nasty skills on the old dude who
still got that groove. There's always some one guy, but

(06:00):
he's got them. But I'm telling you, like, because of
my my daughter's a little older, right, so I went
through that phase where she wanted to go to the
roller rink and I'm like, you walk in there and
you think no one's going to be there, and there's
this whole scene that you don't realize exists. But it's
still not mainstream like it was in the seventies and eighties,
like it was growing up Rich, Like you'd watch roller

(06:23):
Derby on a Sunday, you'd want to go to the
roller rink. You're kissing girls, You're you're doing birthday parties
at the roller rink. It's time for it to have
that sort of comeback. It exists, we know it exists,
but not at the level that Rich is.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
You know, hoping for Rich.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
Think back to some of the other cool places we went, Like,
so I want to do some retro arcades have been popping.
And then also I was thinking about something my better
half was talking about the other day. She was trying
to explain it to the kids, and they were like,
you did what the drive in movie theaters.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
That's a good one, man, Yeah, that's in It was
so much fun.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
I think of the rich.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
We've talked about how movies aren't a big deal the
way they used to be when we were kids.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah, but COVID was a great opportunity for those to
come back, right, And it didn't right, like, hey, we
don't want to sit at the theater anymore, like open up.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
What's the reason? Rich? There was a.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Reason why it's too expensive to just to have those
screens everywhere like that.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
It's the infrastructure, it's it's you know, I remember that,
remember the feeling of pulling up in like tune your
radio to some weird am frequency at the movie.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
The problem is.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Now when they distribute a movie to theaters, it's a
cheaper process to give the movie theaters that are driving
the film or whatever they would need is a totally
different process, and it's not montell monetarily worth it for
the movie companies to do it with.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
The concept is so great and so fun. And again
based on the break dancing and the movie theaters and
baseball cards. Again we're discussing things that were cool that
should have never went out of style. And DANNYJ. You
mentioned the old school retro arcade, right, and there's a reason.
Obviously kids have these things at home. I go to

(08:11):
an arcade, but dude, growing up in eighties kid. And
for the record, again, I'm Steve Cavino. I'm from Union,
New Jersey. I know these things were probably at a
lot of places, but there was a place on Route
twenty two in New Jersey growing up.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
It was called Photon.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
I know they exist still those are tag places. But
Photon was the coolest place, so ahead of its time.
It had an arcade inside. You know, it had food,
but you go into this laser tag emporium of awesome
and it was like a spate. Dude, had you had
you gone a Photon when you were a kid? Rich
or no? Oh my goodness, bro. You go in there,

(08:51):
you suit up the helmet and the gun, right, and
then like you go into this room and it's like
it's like you're in outer space and it's like lasers
and smoke machines and this smell to it, and you're
playing laser it's like the Red team versus the Green team,
and your your score would come up.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Dude.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
It was so futuristic and so cool and so awesome.
It should have never went out of style. And I
know laser tag places exist, but not like Photon in
the eighties had an identification card like you and people
would see like who would win, and people could watch
from above. It was you were like in a in
a big giant in maze, like a big giant carpeted maze,

(09:29):
and you're just hiding behind stuff shooting people.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Dude.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
It was awesome. Photon should have never went away.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
I've done laser tag, but not to that. But what
you're describing seems like a cooler as the kids say.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Photon was a vibe. Dude, was so find Danny g
I want to go back to your driving movie theater
one because you.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Know why, especially now all these huge moon roofs we
have in cars, the nice comfort we have in a vehicle. Now,
we were going to driving movie theaters in your dad's
old Buick.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
Imagine go to the driving in.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
The comfort of like your nice new suv, like everything
about it would make sense now. And I have a
friend that works in the movie world, and that's how
I know why they don't do drive ins, And it
really is a bummer. Like I wish those drive in
theaters had a way to make it happen, because I
feel like the drive in Cavino, this younger generation would
flock to that, I think.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
I think it's still a great idea and a great concept. Again,
just too expensive, and I don't know know some of.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
Them do do it with folding chairs or some companies.
There's some promoters who will do it on a roof
of like a mall and other buildings in major cities,
and they have the big screen that they put up.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
So this happens in a way.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
It's not like the drive in exactly, but it's a
form of it.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
It was always a you know in movies like Greece,
a great makeout sort of situation too.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
That you read my mind.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
I was gonna say, Cave, you know you have a
teenage daughter. What if they did come back, would you
let her go to the driving?

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah? Man, there's what I got.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
That's what I got that you might say, well, we've
streamlined things, which is nice. You know, look at your phone.
You got a nice new iPhone fifteen or a fourteen,
or you got a nice Android.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
That's the thing.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
For everything we've gained with technology, we lost a little something, right.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I miss the variety of cell phones. I thought it
was sort of fun that everyone you knew had a
different phone, Like, oh, you got a flip phone, I
got a BlackBerry, Oh you got a sidekick. I just
think there was something cool about the individuality of like,
what the hell is your cell phone choice? Now it's
eighty percent of your friends have an iPhone and there's
a couple green texting Android buddies. But back in the day,

(11:36):
I thought it was cool that everyone had a different
color phone. Oh you have the motor rolla Razor. Oh
I got the Nokia. There was something cool about what
your choice was.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Your choice and your choice of ring tones and your customization,
your personalization of these phones should have never went out
of style. Yeah we're all sheep, Well we all have
the same phone for the most part. Now, Rich, I
thought your bowling answer was a good one because nothing
brought me more joy as a kid. And you know,
I don't think we've seen the explosion that it should
have the whole rock and ball late night bowling vibe.

(12:09):
That's fun, man, and I think that should should push
it next level. But I got another thing that I
got to give Spot the credit. He said, Spot said
it off the air, and I'm like, dude, damn, because
I know you. I know both of them things that
were cool and should have never went out of style.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Now.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
For example, like Cavalrici's right, they were cool, but I
don't think they should come back. Starter jackets were cool,
and I think they should come back.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
They should have never went out of style.

Speaker 6 (12:41):
Dude, I wear one tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
We all sweated the starter jacket, and we all debate
which was the one, because depending on your generation, we
all had a different one.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
I had the one with the hood.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
I was rocking a Raiders jacket just because I thought
I was a hard teenager and I didn't even like
the Raiders. I had the Starter jacket. It's just the
feel of it, that zip up that Raiders on the back,
the hood I just did.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
There was something so cool about it, and there's no
reason for it not to still be a thing. No reason.
Let's let's be honest, sports fans aren't the most fashioned fashion.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
And if you're showing you know, you're showing you're you're
showing your team spirit. And I know starter jackets were
a little bit more universal, like you didn't necessarily have
to be a fan of the team.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
But it was a look that I think still would
work today.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Bro, you think back, you remember the ones your friends
were wearing. You know what I mean, Like, you remember
you associated hornets fan friends. No, not all the time
back then, you know, but if you did have a team,
you stood by you.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
You did support your team.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
I think they were cool then, and I think that
they should have never went out of style. I think
they're on the precipice of a comeback, just like break dancing,
which makes a stay you at the Olympics this year.
That's why we bring this up. Old school win fifty
hits now. For example, Rich, I've tried my hardest to
bring back members only jackets. I think they're cool. I

(14:10):
still rock them, but on no one's taking the bait.
You're the only member left.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
I didn't like them back then.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I did. I'm the only member.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
Look any any throwback movie now, the cool guys wearing
the members only jackets. Yeah, bro, so I still that.
I still because, believe me, they still exist. Do you
remember their slogan when when you put one on, something happens,
or something happens when you put one on, I know,
you feel like a badass, and no one takes the bait.
They're not coming back. Maybe maybe they never will. But

(14:43):
that starter jacket, man, that's got it. That shit, it
never went away. I think I want to wear one
right now.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
You know, I think Spot mumbled in the background, like
something about the Charlotte hornets. I'm convinced that ninety percent
of the merchandise they've sold in the history of the
franchise US through starter jack was because I've never seen
anyone wearing hornets anything but back in the day, just
because it was a difranchise and they had cool colors.
It was like your hornets. It's like you like the hornets. No,

(15:10):
but they got a cool jacket, right, I feel like
I had.

Speaker 6 (15:14):
Oh my younger brother had one.

Speaker 5 (15:15):
He couldn't have pointed out Charlotte on a map if
you gave him one hundred bucks.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
But you know what, man, everything comes back again. Beverly
Hills cop Axel left that's back. Everything comes back. Yeah,
just even think about, well, what's doe for a comeback?

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Right?

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Like what are these kids going to be jumping on that?
You're gonna say now that was we did that when
we were kids, and they're all about it now.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Think about that like is it? Is it music? Clothing?

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Is it a restaurant? Like, you know what's coming back?

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Shit?

Speaker 4 (15:48):
I never went away those mid level restaurants. We talked
about it, like Bennegan's, Applebee's, those those restaurants are probably
coming back again because fast food got so expect so
kids are now.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Honestly, Danny g I worked at Benigan's, you know, growing up,
I used to love Benigans in the Turkey o tool
and Sampler and things like that. What happened was is
the next generation wanted something. They didn't want that that
level of restaurant. They wanted more of a how would
you describe it?

Speaker 6 (16:22):
The spot.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
They wanted more of like a sassier player or whatever. Yeah,
they wanted they didn't want Fridays anymore. And we grew
up thinking that was a fun spot to hang. But
now that fast food has gotten so expensive in today's world,
now they want that mid level Applebee's Chili. So we're

(16:44):
gonna see comebacks of that. It was always cool in
my opinion because it was not that expensive. You watched
the game there, you had a beer, you didn't have
to get dressed up to go.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
I thought it was cool.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Shit have never went out of style, but it did,
so I think it's on its comeback, and trends say
that it is. What are other examples aside from break
dancing and baseball cards and photon? Any other idea is rich.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
There's a to me much like how I said, I
love the individuality of everyone having their own cell phone, like,
oh you got the Razor, you got the Nokia, Oh
I got this? I thought of we were obsessed with
social media as a culture. I feel like somehow I
don't understand how MySpace went away, because that was the
one where you were able to have your own song,
you could design your page.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Now we're just all like I'm on TikTok, I'm on Instagram.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Back then you could you could really design your own page,
and I really used to.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
I'm shocked that my Space is the one that I
go with you on that. You know what ruined it?

Speaker 4 (17:41):
So many fake accounts fake people, spam and fake accounts,
and of course.

Speaker 6 (17:45):
People getting locked out of their account.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Yeah, but Rich is right if you were involved in
it at the right time. Tom was your pal, You
had your top bait. You're putting girls in your top
bait was your way of telling girls. Yeah, I kind
of want to get with you, right, and you could
put your songs out there and customize it. It definitely
was a better option. Should have never went out of style,

(18:09):
but we understand why it did.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Now.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
If you want to add to our list of things
that were cool and should have never went out of style,
I'll break dancing Enrich and at Fox Sports Radio on
social media.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Now, Kavino, I know you and I are both we're
both fans of bowling. Yeah, you know you talked about
as a kid, I would love to bowl. I found
that there was a place West Hempstead Bowl wasn't in
the nicest neighborhood, but I remember there were dollar games.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Oh that's where you got your haircut. No, that was
not Hempstead Bowls.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
That was an alley. I didn't know.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Do you remember the realization and this doesn't apply just
to bowling, but you remember the realization where there was
something you loved and you found out it had a
reputation you were unaware of. Like I remember finding out
like wait, people think bowling sort of like trashy.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
I grew up.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
My parents were in the league too, I'd be I
spent so much time at the bowling alley as a kid.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Man, I love I love bowling. But I got one
more I'm going to bring up now and then we'll
we'll get the feedback. Rolling Cavino rich In for DP.

Speaker 6 (19:10):
Really quick before you get to that.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
I mean, come on, Today is a day where I
make a little treat for not only the kids, but
for the adults.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Every fourth of July.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Caveno makes fun of me because I make Danny something
called dicky doodle dandies.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
It started as a joke call that you call them that.
There's a difference. It's not like it's not like the
recipe online is called.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, do you have a specialty? Now, Danny, You're gonna
love this. You can make them alcoholic or not. You
can make them for the kids or the adults. What
I do is every fourth of July.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Just don't make both and accidentally mix them up.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
True, you take a bunch of strawberries, you hollow them
out and then you pour blue jello in them hardens,
and then you put either a little ready whip or
cool whip on top, Red white and blue, strawberry blue jello,
cool whip, a little fourth of July, red white and blue.

(20:18):
It's either a jello shot essentially or something fun for
the kids. And I'm gonna make them on our Patreon
later today. Now here's the thing. Jello shots. Now, yes,
if you're on spring Breaker, you're in Mexico, that's one thing.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
But I feel like in the nineties and two.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Thousands, you'd go to a bar, they'd be selling jello shots.
That is something that I feel like went away. Don't
you remember Cavino doing jello shots all the time when
you were like.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Twenty Absolutely yeah, bombs, yeah, bombs. Jello shots.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
I thought they were cool. So any other things you
want to add to the list things that were cool?
They should never want to out of style. Hit us
up at Cavino and rich or you can call us

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Damn, look at Danny G's moves. I had no clue
he was bringing cardboard into the producer of.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Studio head right now. This Wow, it's your spotty.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Look at you with the robot. I didn't realize. Dude,
Low and CON's doing the worm in the studio. This
is great, but that's typical. He does that every Yeah,
then again he does that every Thursday on the show
Lo and Crime. I know you had those breakdancing skills.
I didn't know you brought it like that.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
I think I pulled something.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
That's Isaac Lowan Crown. We're Covino and Rich popping in
locking his breakdancing is making a comeback.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
We're not saying it ever went away. Let's be clear.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
We're talking like mainstream major comeback because it makes his
debut again at the Paris Olympics. So look out for
that old school win fifty hits. Thank you guys for
hanging out with us. Covino and Rich. We have one
quick call on that Rich. Things that were cool that
should have never went out of style, like like breakdancing
like that?

Speaker 6 (22:39):
What do we got, Danny g Let's talk to Jeff
and Rhode Island.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Hey Jeff, Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 9 (22:45):
How's it going.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Good morning man?

Speaker 9 (22:49):
Yeah, hey you guys. I was actually running some errands
and I was listening in on the Boston affiliate and
I was you guys had me dying, say you bring
it back all these great memories. And remember I mentioned
to the when the gentleman I answered the phone, Remember
the top sticker catalog and used to be so pumped

(23:11):
when you would get an All Star because it was
silver or gold. And then you guys mentioned the starter jackets,
and it was funny because I'm a Niners fan, my
brother's a Raiders fan. We both had one. And my
brother had to get that Charlotte Hornets one because because
because it was the colors, because it was the and

(23:34):
I just real quick, I want to mention a couple
of things. We had an arcade as well here in
the in the local malls, Aladdin's Castle, and that was
the Friday night thing because that's where you were picking
up trying to pick up the girls outside of the arcade.
And last thing, I got a couple of them. Remember
shell top Adidas when run DMC used to wear them. Yeah,

(23:56):
that bell should come back. Because we used to have
a shoe storm Providence, Fort Island called Geller's Shoes and
he used to get maybe ten tears and it would
be a line on a Saturday down the street trying
to get in there.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
And I still rocked me some shelters tomorrow for sure.
You know, on that tip, I would think, like, I
haven't seen kangaroos since the eighties. Maybe they're due for
a comeback. I don't know, but every nobody comes back.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Man.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
In the world of sneakers. The shell tells by the way,
you knew they were getting old when they turned yellow.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yeah, exactly, Maybe money makes a comeback.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
I'm shocked that there hasn't been some newer iteration of
the pump, Like the Rebock pump was such a big deal.
You tell me, no shoe company wants to take a
chance on a pump, Like, come on, it was cool, it.

Speaker 6 (24:45):
Was overboard when you needed a tool, though.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
It was also yeah, yeah, yeah, they dropped the ball
on that. But hey, if you want to add to
the list again at Covino and Rich on social media,
at Steve Cavino, at Rich Davis. Now Rich the other
thing I wanted to get before weekend hobnobbing again.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
We get to that next.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
What you need to watch in the world of sports
and entertainment this holiday weekend, It's the All Star Game.
He brought up the All Star Baseball cards. The All
Star teams have been selected. Props to Aaron Judge and
Bryce Harper, the fan favorites. No surprise there, right, Like,
I'm all about.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
That they got the right stars, the right lead vote getters. Now,
I do have one problem with something, and I want
to go over some of the guys that made the squad.
And again there's been a rule change in the home
run Derby that's a big deal.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
So they're always they're always doing a great job.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I do love MLB All Star week. I think it's
a home run pun intended home run Derby might be
the best event in any All Star weekend or week
in sports.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
That's my favorite thought when it comes to the All
Star Game. For me, it's cool to see all the
stars out there whatever, but the home run Derby is
what it's all about. It's again being there is a
different sort of event too. It's the greatest sports event
I think, aside from you know, obviously a major Super
Bowl or a thing like that. We've been to so

(26:12):
many home run Derbies and it's the best time. And
if you could take your kids to those events leading
up to it, or even to the to the home
run Derby, you gotta make it happen.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
It's so much fun.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
I have one gripe and by the way, I want
to go with the rules real quick and see if
you're down with the new home run Derby rules. Sure,
but man, there's nothing makes me happier than watching the
All Stars lineup and they go down the row and
you wait for your team to be represented and you're like, yeah,
there's my dude, Like there's something, there's a pride you
take in your guy at the All Star Game. It's

(26:46):
so special. I've always been a huge fan. But the
one fail, the one fail, and I get it. It's
a money grab, understood. Listen, today, you're gonna see Fourth
of July hats around Major League Baseball. Right, There'll be
a little red, white and blue element on everyone's baseball cap.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
That's fair.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Veterans Day, Memorial Day understood, some camo, But why not
go back to the days where every team rocks their
jersey at the All Star Game. Let's say the American
League is home. Aaron Judge should be wearing the pinstripes.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
Oh you know why because they want to sell more merch,
you know, And that's probably it. And there you know,
it's the All Star team. I get it, but they're
selling All Star jerseys as opposed to you know, an
Aaron Judge pinstrick is probably the reason the bottom I.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Mean, I dude, I said it minutes ago.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Yeah, it's clearly a money grab, But to me, a
money grab that really takes away from the idea of
seeing these guys Like I want to see Mike Trout
in his Angels jersey standing next to Aaron Judge stand
the next to you know, dever is standing next to
who ever standing next to Al Tuvey in his Astro's uniform. Like,

(28:02):
to me, that's what it's all about. I want to
see Bryce Harper Rock and those.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
I want to see the camera pan from Judge to
al Tuve. I want to see the camera dip three
feet down. That's what I want to see happen. You
know what, that's a good one.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Rich.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
Hey, Danny G you're a guy who loves wearing sports gear.
How do you feel about the All Star jersey versus
the team wearing their respected jersey.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
You know I liked it when they all had matching hats.
I don't know if you can that. Yeah, that's that's
how I liked it the best. So regular jersey matching hat.
That's actually a cool compromise. I think that's cool, Rich.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
When you see you want to.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
See your team and your city represented. Agree with you,
Rich on that I miss see.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
When you see Otani in the batter's bucks. I don't
want to see him wearing. Hold on, I'm looking at
the jersey now. I don't want to see Otani wearing
a powder bluish g like a teal sleeves in black
jersey that says National League.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
Do you think the players want though, I'm curious, like seriously, like,
do you think the players feel cooler being like a, hey,
look at this team we're on. We all got the
same jerseys, and there they got a cool feeling putting
on that different All Star jersey or do you think
they feel cooler wearing their real jersey?

Speaker 2 (29:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
I do remember one year. I'm not a I'm not
a uniform historian. I know me and r pal Dan Bayer,
who's usually our update guy. I love to talk about
uniforms and and changes and that that culture. But for me, Cavino,
there was a year and they may have done this
a couple of years. Do you remember when everyone wore
the same color but they kept the logo like it
might have been it might have been all the same

(29:45):
color jerseys, but it had the Yankee logo or it
had the Red Sox logo.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
I'm okay with that.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
I just don't like the money grab that is awful
looking National League jersey, awful looking American League jersey.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
And then I got to ask.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
I'll tell you what, as a consumer and as a fan,
I'd never buy that jersey, even if I was at
the game.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
I would never never buy it.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
But the words, but I wouldn't wear it. I wouldn't
wear it again. That's why I wouldn't buy it.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Spot, you took the words right out of my mouth. Cave.
You know who would buy it? Spot?

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Is the question, like, if you're a baseball fan and
you're gonna spend one hundred two hundred bucks on a jersey,
are you buying a Bryce Harper like powder blue, one
of those cool jerseys, or the whole pin stripes of
the Phillies, or are you buying the National League All
Star jersey?

Speaker 6 (30:31):
To get it?

Speaker 2 (30:31):
But like, jerseys are expensive, Let's be honest. Most people
are buying one jersey for the season. What about like
when the City Connects come out.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Yeah, well, if I was going to buy an alternate jersey,
it'd be the City, it wouldn't be the All Star.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
They look cool, but they're still different, and the the
idea is in the name itself uniform. You want the
team to be uniform team. I don't know, you need
some sort of cohesion amongst all the players. Take a
look here, take a look right now? Now, I see them.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
Yeah, I'm I'm with you on that, Rich, I don't
I do like that your team's represented because they're wearing
their uniform. I grew up like that, so I feel
the same way as you do. Actually, and when Rich
and I agree, it's fact your thoughts. At eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox, the teams were announced. Any
surprises too? You could chime in, you know, I'm looking

(31:25):
at the American League lineup, No real surprise.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
I mean, for me as a Yankees fan, you got Aaron.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
Judge and Juan Soto. That looks about right to me.
Again the usual suspects, Jose Altuve Guerrero Junior got Jose
Ramirez at third, and again National League led by Bryce
Harper and Trey Turner. It's a snack squad man all
the fan favorite show. Hey o Tani, Obviously this may be.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
A ridiculous question, but do you think every player knows
which league? Every player is on if they're American International? Yeah?
Do you really think that you think every player knows
every player knows. What if someone's American League, National League? Yes, yeah,
definitely Christian Yelich on the Nationals. Fuck, do you know

(32:12):
Steven A. Smith is on ESPN or CBS. Yes, but
it's a little bit to do a pick some random person.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
There might be a middle reliever that someone might be like,
what dims he on?

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Again?

Speaker 3 (32:24):
But besides that, I think most English may not know.
So answer this, what do you think of the new rules?
Let me let me break it down for you real quick.
Cove This year not a big change to the home
run derby, but I do like it. So remember last
year they would have like seating and sometimes a guy
would be eliminated in the first round just because he

(32:45):
had a you know, unfortunate crappy matchup where oh man,
you know, he hit thirty but the guy who beat
him hit thirty two and meanwhile, no one else in
the derby got close and he was done.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
So instead of one.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Versus eight versus seven, this year, there's gonna be one
on one showdowns, but not until the semifinals. This year,
the first round of eight will have no seeds. The
best four competitors move on to the semifinals and then
it goes one versus four, two versus three, but those
seeds will be solely determined on the number of home

(33:20):
runs they hit in the first round. Nothing to do
with the regular season. So it'll be all eight guys.
Top four move on and based on their home runs
in the first round. One faces four, two faces three,
and that's how they're doing.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
It sounds good. I can't wait to see how it
plays out. The thing is, I, like I already said,
I love that event, and it's been flawless and fun
for all these years. I've loved it. I just hope
it works. But it sounds like it makes sense. See
how it pans out.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Now here's the other rub and then we'll we'll move along.
You know how some people would complain, and you know
they bitching complain, I always complaining. As your dad would
say that some pitchers would move faster than others. Some
guys would have a camaraderie, like there will be a picture.
They're like boom, boom, boom, and the other pictures.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Took their time, and you'd be like, come on, let's go.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
It's forty pitches or three minutes, whatever comes first. So
there's not the earth there's not the urgency where yeah,
there's not an urgency where the batting practice pitchers like
one after the other after the other, forty pitches or
three minutes and that's.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
It, all right, So some rule changes this year. Your
thoughts on the jerseys, your thoughts on the team. The
selections have been made the All Star Game. Uh, We're
Cavino and Rich and for Dan Patrick. We got weekend hobnobbing.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Cavino.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't bring up how funny it was.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
What gives away my baseball captain my Yankees had my
vulpy shirt.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Your your men's excel vulpy shirt.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Why do you say men's excel. It's not because you're
wearing a medium shirt.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Why do you say that? You go ahead, your arms
are swimming in it. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
Maybe you just didn't do biceps this week, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
Or maybe you're wearing your shirts too tight.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Maybe that is true. I'm surprised you. I'm surprised you
didn't mention. Uh umpire Jim Wolf mocking Alexis Diaz when
he got mad about a non strikell against the Yankees.
He throws his arms up and the umpire goes, oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
And one more thing, uh, did you see it?

Speaker 3 (36:40):
The Rangers? At the Rangers game, a fan fell into
the net by the Padres dugout, spilled his beer on
his head and they were gonna eject him. And the
Padres players were the ones that were like, no, no,
let the guy stay. He humiliated himself enough, let him
stay there.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
I thought that was cool.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
And we had Joey Chesnutt on early. We talked about
the hot dog eating contest.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
I looked it up.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
You know how you asked them about Taylor Ham being
that you're from Jersey. Sixty one and a half tailor
Ham Sandwiches in ten minutes. Good luck, that's the record,
sixty one and a half tailor Ham Samwich.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
I can do it on seven. I'll give that a
go in a few weeks when I head back to
the East coast. But Rich is getting link early. It's
time for the weekend. Hob Nobbin Live in for the weekend.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
You're winning bets for talking points if you get stuck socializing?

Speaker 6 (37:28):

Speaker 2 (37:29):
You ever dance with the devil in the bay Line?

Speaker 1 (37:32):

You're fighting live in Anaheim, Nate Diaz, Horgey Mazi dal

(38:44):
As a fight fan, super pumped about that. Also, you
know Sam Garcia's fight showing Garcias fighting Vargas Fernando Sun.
So there's some good fights on that card, some interesting ones. Anyway,
if you want to check that out, and Rich, I'm
gonna steal your answer because I tried watch last night
and my girlfriend said, why don't you watch it when
I'm not around, I'm watching Beverly Hills copl.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
She had no interest. She's like, I'm working tomorrow, watch it.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
Then I'm like, so watching that solo with a cocktail,
watching some fireworks, wow.

Speaker 2 (39:19):

see Despicable Me for they love millions, they love all
that stuff.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
That's gonna be big this weekend.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
I may try that cheesy movie that you did watch
with your girlfriend, Family Affair with Zach Effron.

Speaker 4 (39:43):

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Well, your honor, Uh, I have one more episode to go,

they're both on Netflix now and it's fantastic Presumed Innocent
with Jake Jayllen Hall.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
That's on Apple TV.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
And not to get all political on you, but this
is gonna be huge because Joe Biden sits down with
George Stephanopoulos tomorrow and apparently insiders are saying, depending on
if this goes good or bad, we'll determine if Joe
Biden stays in the presidential race. So if you want
to see what goes down, that's tomorrow, So it could
determine who runs for president of our country.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
So sort of important. All right, Danny G you got something?

Speaker 5 (40:25):
Yeah, HBO, Max Hard Knocks off season. The New York
Giants just started a couple of days ago. You will
love their new GM and it's really interesting to see
how and why they let Saquon step into free agency.
Something to look forward to. We all love the docu
series Quarterback last year. Well Wide Receiver is coming up
with Davonte Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and

(40:49):
a Monross Saint Brown. That's gonna be July tenth, so
next Wednesday. But something to look forward to for sure.
And then really quick, you guys talked about the Back
to the Future anniverse. Yeah, the trilogy is now available
on Netflix for the month.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
Yeah, there you go, spying plans.
