Designer Roxy Owens of Society Social turned this once beige-and-tan spare room in our 2023 Whole Home into a dreamy destination for guests. “We wanted this to be a mix of traditional-meets-youthful and feminine,” Owens says. For inspiration, she turned to textile brand Lee Jofa, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. Upon learning that one of her favorite patterns—Chinese Peony, pulled from a mid-19th-century English chintz—had been recolored and introduced as a fabric and wallpaper, Owens made the floral motif the centerpiece of this most dreamy room.
She retained the room’s original paneling and had it painted in Farrow & Ball's Parma Gray to frame the new wallpaper. She painstakingly ensured that the pattern flowed seamlessly across the wall panels and canopied bed (otherwise, she remarks, the room would be “very trippy” and not relaxing at all). Smart additions like creamy white case goods, scalloped accessories, and graphic chevron prints help temper the space’s sweetness. “You’re surrounded by beauty,” says Owens.
