When you're designing your bathroom, tile is one of the biggest decisions you have to make. Sure, you need to pick out paint, hardware, lighting, and fixtures, but none of those make as lasting an impact as bathroom tile. And while we've seen the rise of floor-to-ceiling marble and the fall of zellige tile over the past few years, there are a slew of 2024 bathroom tile trends ready to take over.

There are a few staples when it comes to bathroom tile, the design equivalents of your favorite white T-shirt. Simple subway tile and black-and-white patterns are timeless and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. But we're not here to talk about the classics. We're here to get designers to reveal the tile colors, patterns, and finishes that are up-and-coming.

It may feel ridiculous to follow trends when it comes to an element as permanent as bathroom tile, but if you stick to your personal style and use these trends to inspire your own renovation, you can’t go wrong. Looking back, 2023 was the year of tile murals, bold colors, and allover earthy hues, but what bathroom tile trends does 2024 have in store for us? Read on to discover the six best bathroom tile trends of 2024, straight from expert designers.

Jewel Tones

"I'm seeing people willing to have fun with their tile in their primary bathrooms. Clients are open to more color—even risky and colorful tile. I'm seeing a lot of jewel tones, beautiful emerald greens, and a lot of variations of blue and green hues." —Kate Chapman of Baxter Design

Glazed Tile

"While terrazzo is no longer the trend of the moment, we're seeing an increase in demand for glazed tiles, which are crafted and glazed by hand with their subtle nuances. With antique and salvaged materials remaining heroes of interior spaces, the reflective surfaces are offering a rich tapestry of history and character." —Lee Thornley, founder, Bert & May

3

Floral Motifs

"Florals remain intriguing, though I think we are shifting toward a more modern application and less expected, traditional versions. We are going to be seeing more unusual floral patterns scaled either really large or really small and uncommon color combinations." —Ghislaine Viñas

Playful Shapes

"The other tile trend I'm seeing is more unique tile shapes such as a scalloped tile, similar to scales on a fish, and more hexagonal motifs. Clients are okay moving away from traditional rectangular tiles or more standard mosaics. Overall, people seem to be open to being more relaxed and open to 'nontraditional' colors and shapes." —Kate Chapman, Baxter Design

Patterns With Movement

"2024 will herald a return to artistic expression within interiors, with a focus on fluid lines, patterns, and prints. A more organic approach to shapes will see more freedom. Think brushstrokes, irregular forms, and softened curves—embracing the perfectly imperfect forms found in nature." —Lee Thornley, founder, Bert & May

Large-Scale Slabs

"Large-scale tile really makes a statement. Colorful or more neutral, we're seeing dramatic sizing in tile that really makes even a smaller space feel expansive." —Heather Hilliard, Heather Hilliard Design
