How to Help Ukrainians Through Airbnb

Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Airbnb has announced that it will provide free temporary housing for up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Airbnb's co-founders—Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk—recently sent letters to leaders of various European countries, including Poland, Germany, Hungary, and Romania, offering relief to those impacted by the conflict. The company will work closely with the governments of those nations to provide support for the displaced, including long-term stays.

This is not Airbnb's first time lending a helping hand to refugees. The company has also provided complimentary housing to 21,300 Afghan refugees, and plans to do the same for another 20,000 asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South America, as well as other regions.

Over the course of the past five years, Airbnb has provided a safe haven to a total of more than 54,000 refugees and asylees hailing from countries like Syria, Venezuela, and Afghanistan. Additionally, in 2021, Airbnb.org launched its Refugee Fund, which now has over 4,000 donors who continue to support the company's work with refugees across the globe.

#3 Make Your Own Airbnb(s) Available to Ukrainian Refugees for Free

Countless Airbnb users are lending their properties to Ukrainians who are in need of a place to stay—among them, Canadian designer Christine Dovey, owner of Cordial House, an oceanside cottage on Prince Edward Island.

"Creating spaces that people can experience and feel truly at home in has always been my work," Dovey wrote in a recent Instagram post. "To make them available right now to those who are desperately in need of a place to feel that, is something I very much want to do."
