Anyone without star fitness trainer Tracy Anderson on speed dial (like friend/business partner Gwyneth Paltrow and clients Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham and Tracee Ellis Ross) can get the next best thing via Mirror, the futuristic workout device that is bringing Anderson’s signature cardio dance and muscle-sculpting workouts to walls all over.
The trainer has teamed with the interactive home gym on a content partnership, which brings the Tracy Anderson Method to Mirror’s digital library of virtual classes. Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, Alicia Keys, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are fans of Mirror, a full-length reflective LCD screen that streams live and on-demand workouts and can sync up with an Apple smartwatch or a Bluetooth heart rate monitor to track users’ biometric data and fitness goals. The device is priced at $1,495, while monthly content subscriptions are $39.

Former New York City Ballet dancer and fitness entrepreneur Brynn Putnam is the brains behind Mirror. The Harvard University alumna also founded The Refine Method, a boutique chain of fitness studios in New York. She told The Hollywood Reporter that she found the perfect collaborator in Anderson for Mirror’s first content partnership: “I have long admired her ability to innovate and transform the fitness industry. She’s been able to build a community that connects and inspires people to take control of their overall health.”

Putnam pulled from her Ivy League experience and dance career when brainstorming the concept of the device. “While at Harvard, I was surrounded by incredible minds and people who were constantly finding new and exciting ways to innovate and change the status quo,” she says. “When I had my first child, I found myself, a gym owner, with no time to work out. I looked at some at-home fitness options, but found that everything available required that I trade off quality for convenience.”
“As a former dancer, I realized how integral the mirror was to any great fitness experience, and that many of the elements of a great at-home experience could be accomplished through using a mirror as a portal,” says Putnam. “It has a slim footprint, acts as beautiful home decor when not in use, and provides immersive and interactive visuals and sound.”
Anderson leads the virtual classes wearing G. Sport, Goop’s high-performance activewear line, a nod to her longtime friend and client Paltrow.
“For years, Goop has brought people together and new ideas to the forefront of our culture. When the Goop team approached me about their discovery of Mirror and its innovative platform, I was intrigued to learn more,” Anderson tells THR. Though the trainer already offers streamed content through her TA Online Studio series, she “felt this partnership was a great opportunity for me to engage the industry in a new and interactive way. Unlike my studio or online classes, Mirror users can expect to only see me! Well, and themselves reflecting back in the mirror.”
Mirror currently has a store in New York, and Putnam hints that she’s “excited to hit the West Coast soon and to continue expanding [the company’s] presence around the country.”
