At the age of 17, Chick Corea invited Japanese keyboard starlet Hiromi to join him in a duet at one of his concerts in Tokyo and, having reached 27 years of age, this is already her fourth release on Telarc. So Hiromi is young, experienced and talented – and this album shows both her maturity and her youthful vigour.

She's enlisted fusion guitar hero Dave Fiuczynski to supplement her working trio, Sonicbloom and while he adds his usual very tasty muscle, Hiromi holds her own comfortably. Her playing is spacey and fluid when on electronic keys, light of touch and articulate on piano. And then there's her composing – complex, high-energy music which Corea himself might have been proud of back in his Return To Forever days – sometimes funky (Time Out), sometimes raucous (Time Travel), but also delicate and serene, such as on the lovely Deep Into The Night. One to watch, for sure.
