India claims T20 World Cup glory. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma bid farewell to T20 internationals

India beat South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, 2024, to lift the T20 World Cup trophy.

Soon after India won the World Cup final, captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 international cricket.

India beat South Africa by seven runs and became the first team ever to go an entire T20 World Cup tournament unbeaten.

This is India's second T20 World Cup title, after the 2007 World Cup tournament.

Kohli won the player of the match title. He announced his retirement from the format in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Rahul Dravid stepped down as the head coach after the T20 World Cup. He also led India to the 2023 World Test Championship and 2023 World Cup finals.

Jasprit Bumrah was named player of the tournament, having finished with 15 wickets in eight matches.

India won the toss and chose to bat first. Kohli smashed three fours in the first over.

Keshav Maharaj dismissed Rohit and Rishabh Pant in the second over. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Suryakumar Yadav and India lost its three top-tier batters inside the powerplay.

India scored 176/7, the highest by any team in the final of a T20 World Cup.
