If you’re not too tired from your Independence Day celebrations, the weekend is at your doorstep and there’s still plenty of fun to be had this week including a drum and bugle corps competition in Hillsboro, the continuation of the Waterfront Blues Festival, and LeakyCon, a gathering for magic and fantasy fans.
Northwest Youth Music Games Portland
Not to be mistaken for marching bands, the drum and bugle corps do march and perform, but differ in which instruments they use, with drum corps using only brass bugles and drums, and marching bands incorporating woodwinds and other alternative instruments. Five youth drum and bugle corps will travel to Hillsboro this Friday for a competition. See musicians from Boise, Seattle, Denver, Pasco, and Casper, Wyoming. Get your tickets soon because these events often sell out.

Waterfront Blues Festival
Fourth of July may be over, but the Waterfront Blues Festival is just heating up. This year’s event features headliner Ben Harper. Read more about that here: oregonlive.com/entertainment. The musical lineup also includes Lucinda Williams, Bobby Rush, and Margo Price.

St. Paul Rodeo
All the traditional events are held during the annual St. Paul Rodeo including steer roping, bareback and bull riding, barrel racing, and more. This annual event also features a midway with rides, amazing barbecue, and fireworks shows after evening performances.

LeakyCon
No, this isn’t an assembly of plumbing professionals, this fan expo is all about Harry Potter, (the event is named after the Leaky Cauldron) Dr. Who, Game of Thrones and other purveyors of magical beasts, fantasy, and general fangeekyness. Don your snazziest dress robes and meet with other like-minded folks for three days of speakers, autograph signings, spotlight talks by stars and creators, parties, and cosplay sessions. Summerfest
Vancouver’s large Fourth of July fireworks display has been dark for a several years now. But in its place, the Fort Vancouver Historic Trust and its partners celebrate with a community event that includes a day of live music, games on the lawn, military vehicle displays and rides, and a beer garden for those 21 and older.

Live Music on the Green
Bridgeport Village in Tigard offers plenty of great places to shop and eat. But during the summer, it also transforms into a free live music venue. Enjoy free concert from a variety of musicians on summer weekends through Sept. 1. Roseburg Graffiti Weekend
This multi-day event includes a variety of activities even before the weekend gets started. There are several days of car shows and a show-and-shine, a burnout competition, a dance-off, an ice cream social, dirt track racing, live music, and more in this tribute to the car culture of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
