• Gwyneth Paltrow reveals in her February Harper’s BAZAAR cover story that she has no plans to return to acting.
  • Paltrow credits experiencing “burnout” while filming when pregnant with her daughter, Apple Martin, leading to her decision to not star in a movie ever again.

If you’ve found yourself wondering when Gwyneth Paltrow is set to make a grand return to the silver screen, don’t hold your breath. The actress and Goop CEO explains in her February cover story of Harper’s BAZAAR that the answer—in Paltrow’s own words—is “literally never.”

“Nev-er,” emphasizes Paltrow—in case you needed further persuasion.

Paltrow explains that though acting is what initially catapulted her career, and that her venture into health and wellness via her brand, Goop, was an unexpected professional segue, she doesn’t think movies are something her heart will ever fully be into again.

“I vom,” says Paltrow of her reaction to seeing herself on-screen. “I gag. I hate it.” She also shares with BAZAAR that aside from her children watching the occasional Iron Man movie, they haven’t seen any of her on-screen work.

“The last movie I starred in, I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a movie called Proof, an adaption of a play I did in London, and I was like, ‘I’ve had it. I can’t do this anymore,’” expresses Paltrow. “I had morning sickness and I was dying, and I had these five-page monologues. So when I had her, I knew I was going to take a big chunk of time off. And I’ve never starred in anything again.”

Aside from taking time out for her family and shifting her career focus to the world of Goop and off-kilter wellness, Paltrow also credits her decision to leave acting behind to simply being worn out.

“When I was acting I really burned myself out. When the flywheel kicked in, I was doing three to five movies a year,” says Paltrow. “I really got to the point where even the little things, like sitting in the van going to set, getting your makeup touch-ups, and everything—I really don’t know that I can bear it.”

Paltrow will be gracing our television screens soon enough, though not in a scripted format. The former actress revealed yesterday that her new Netflix miniseries, The Goop Lab, will be coming to the streaming giant on January 24. The six-episode series plans to “push the boundaries and exploration of wellness topics” while featuring Gwyneth-approved wellness experts teaching women how to live their lives to the fullest.
