Whilst the overnight rain caused the cancellation of Hursley’s SPCL away fixture against Paultons, the endeavours of the Hursley ground staff meant that both 2nd and 3rd team matches at The Quarters went ahead with both teams gaining good wins.

In the Hampshire League division two fixture against Lymington 2nd X1 the visitors set a good total of 209 on a comparatively slow outfield. Contributions from Patel (31), Deacon (44) Freeman (34) and McCurdy (28) kept the score ticking. For Hursley, Andy Spink took 4 for 33, with son Ollie impressive behind the stumps.

In reply, Hursley lost their first wicket with the score on 33 and their second on 72 (Ollie Spink 28). A partnership of 92 between opener Raman Prendergast and captain Richard O’Brien (28) took the score to 169 and the brink of victory. A run-a-ball 15 from Manesh Kurana amid a flurry of boundaries secured the win in the 44th over. Prendergast had been the mainstay of the Hursley innings and when he was eventually dismissed for an entertaining and stylish 111, just the five runs were needed and a 6 wicket win was celebrated.

On the adjacent pitch, the Hursley 3rd team entertained Ampfield and North Baddesley in Hampshire League Division 4 South. Batting first, only Kumo Sharma (67) came to terms with the visitors’ bowling and it took some lower order rallying (Bhavya Patel 33, Khajit Sharma 18, and George Pengally 18) to get the score to a reasonable 172.

Renak Behar (50*) carried his bat in Ampfield’s reply of 145 all out. For Hursley, George Pengally took 5 for 36 from his 9 overs.
