The article in last week's Hampshire Chronicle (June 27) covered the main reasons why it is unacceptable to close Andover Road and to divert its traffic through the centre of the major Kings Barton housing development.

But the article missed out on the key point of our petition which is that a planning application is expected in Summer 2025 to redevelop Sir John Moore Barracks with some 800-1,000 additional homes. This planned redevelopment is likely to increase traffic through Kings Barton Major Housing Development Area to well over the capacity of the development's main road, Winchester Avenue.

Both Headbourne Worthy and Kings Worthy Parish Councils have joined with Kings Barton Residents' Association in stating that Andover Road should be kept open as a requirement for any approval of the redevelopment of Sir John Moore Barracks.

Our petition is that Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council should re-open (or keep open) Andover Road as a requirement for any approval of the Sir John Moore Barracks redevelopment.
