HAMPSHIRE's lush, sprawling countryside is a sight to behold from the air.

John Chaplin piloted the plane, which he built, from Popham, to Petersfield, up the M3 to Basingstoke and Newbury, back down the A34 to Micheldever and back to Popham.

Mr Chaplin, 70, is chairman of Popham Airfield Matter, a group fighting to stop the 3,000-home garden village allocated to the site in the latest draft of the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council local plan.
