A new book about a mysterious Dark Age king will be launched at a Winchester book shop.
Cerdic, the first king of Wessex, carved out his kingdom in the sixth century from the chaos which followed the collapse of the western Roman Empire.
On Wednesday, June 12, Paul Harper will launch CERDIC: Mysterious Dark Age King who Founded England at P&G Wells book shop on College Street.
The event is free but spaces will be limited: to ensure a place those interest can book at pgwells.co.uk.
The book reveals for the first time Cerdic's resting place – a Bronze Age burial mound near Andover – as well as lifting the lid on other mysteries, such as the identity of the king's shadowy son, Creoda.
Paul Harper is an experienced journalist who has been writing reports and investigations for more than a decade for British newspapers.
He has worked for several top local and national news publications. Paul is now a press officer for a London-based university promoting academic research to the wider public.
