Former South Carolina stars A'ja Wilson, Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray named 2024 WNBA All-Stars
COLUMBIA — For the second straight year, three of Dawn Staley's former players from South Carolina women's basketball will play in the 2024 WNBA All-Star game.
Aliyah Boston and Allisha Gray will play for Team WNBA and A'ja Wilson will play for the US team headed for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The All-Star game is on July 20 (8:30 p.m. ET) at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
The WNBA All-Star team was announced roughly 15 minutes before Boston and Wilson faced each other in Las Vegas (9:30 p.m.).
Last year, Boston and Wilson were named 2023 WNBA All-Star starters, and Gray was named to the All-Star team.
Wilson, who is averaging 26.9 points and 11.1 rebounds this season for the Las Vegas Aces, was nominated for two ESPY Awards last week. On June 15, she extended her streak of 20-plus point games to 17, the longest in league history. Since then, she's scored 27 points, 26 points, 31 points and a streak-ending 11 points in her last four games.
Against another former Gamecocks center, Kamilla Cardoso, Wilson had six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks to go with her 31 points in the Aces win over the Chicago Sky.
Boston, the 2023 Rookie of the Year, is in her second year with the Indiana Fever and has been named an All-Star in her first two seasons. Boston is averaging 13.1 points, 8.3 assists and is coming off a 17-point game on Sunday. On June 13, Boston tied her career high with 27 points in the Fever's win over the Atlanta Dream when she snagged 13 rebounds as well.
Gray, who played for the Gamecocks for two years after starting at North Carolina, spent six years on the Dallas Wings and is in her second season with the Atlanta Dream. Gray is averaging 15.6 points and four rebounds, and dropped 24 points against the Aces on May 31. Gray and Wilson brought South Carolina its first national title in 2017.
Tuesday is the second meeting between the Aces and Fever. In the first game on May 25, Boston finished with 12 points and six rebounds and Wilson finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds.
