For a label best known for its deep, dark, heavyweight denim, 3sixteen's New York flagship feels surprisingly light and airy. The Nolita store, according to 3sixteen co-founder Andrew Chen, was envisioned as “a representation of the city it calls home,” with reclaimed local Douglas fir floors, old-world-inspired textured plaster walls, and century-old brick baseboards.

The shop, which opened last August, also stocks a thoughtful array of home goods—including a private showroom in the rear for the West Coast furniture designer Stephen Kenn. But the real stars of the show, of course, are the clothes. There are 3sixteen's signature jeans, crafted using custom fabrics from the legendary Kuroki Mills in Okayama, Japan. There are their perfect-fitting tees, which come in a wide range of weights and tones. And then there are the drool-worthy seasonal pieces the brand produces: understated camp shirts, head-turning military jackets, handsome rib knit cardigans.

For the latest episode of #ShopTalk on the @GQRecommends Instagram, we asked store manager Gabe Del Signore to walk us through 3sixteen's vibrant new space and give us a taste of all the hardwearing wares within. Here are his picks for the very best pieces to cop right now.

3sixteen CS-101xs classic straight stonewashed indigo selvedge jeans

“This is our first time experimenting with a stonewashed fabric, and we’re really stoked on the results. They’ve got all the things you look for in a vintage, faded-out pair of jeans—roping on the hems, that really nice light blue. These are a perfect summer pant.”

3sixteen olive jacquard camp shirt

One of the shop's best-selling items at the moment are these jacquard knit camp shirts. "They're super subtle from far away," Del Signore says, "but when you get up close you can really see that nice floral pattern woven into the fabric. It's a nice weight to work as a shirt or an overshirt."

3sixteen Pima pocket T-shirt (2-pack)

3sixteen's best-selling heavyweight tees are a longtime GQ fave, but the Pima cotton version is better suited to summer. "They're a little bit lighter in weight, great collars, perfect for when it's humid like it is right now," Del Signore says.

3sixteen BDU jacket

3sixteen is best known for its basics, but the label likes to go wild from time to time—this killer giraffe print fatigue jacket is as good an example as any.
