In his 66 years, Daniel Day-Lewis has shown time and time again that he is a man of many, many talents. Not only does he have three Oscars, four BAFTAs, and a knighthood on his resume (you're hired!), the London-born method actor also happens to be something of a workwear god.
On the streets of New York City, Day-Lewis was spotted leaving a meeting with legendary directors Steven Spielberg and Jim Sheridan. This was pretty exciting: Not only did it hint that DDL might be pulling out of retirement for a potential project (fingers crossed), it also gave us another example of just how phenomenal this man is at getting dressed.
Up top, he rocked a classic navy beanie and throwback aviators. Then there's his base layers: an artful striped tee under a denim shirt and a neckerchief, the sort of simple-but-smart combo everyone should have in their back pocket. But it's the rest of the fit that really ratchets things up a notch: a classic Carhartt Detroit jacket with matching double-knee trousers. Day-Lewis being Day-Lewis, of course, this was no ordinary Carhartt set—it's a special-edition version made to celebrate the American workwear icon's 125th birthday.
Released in an extremely limited run back in 2014, the jacket features a creamy canvas construction, corduroy collars, and an inner lining that's completely covered in a patterned blanket for extra warmth and cosiness. Both pieces were made in the USA, too, and came stitched with plenty of subtle “125th anniversary” branding to make sure everyone knows just how rare your clothes are. To finish things off, Day-Lewis laced up a pair of custom-made BuildPro boots from the Pacific Northwest stalwart Nicks.
All in all, it adds up to just another day in the ever-stylish life of Daniel-Day Lewis—the final boss of workwear.
