Samsung Galaxy S23

Samsung Galaxy S23

Samsung's latest round of Galaxy smartphones are easily among the best handsets available, particularly if you're a compulsive phone photographer, so you'll be happy to know that pre-orders for all three new handsets are available online. Each of the new S23 handsets will be shipped on February 17th, but if you put your money down for one before then, there are plenty of additional perks like a free pair of headphones or plenty of cash off if you trade in your old Samsung phone when pre-ordering.

Our choice? Sky Mobile, which is offering double data, no matter what, on all new Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones ahead of the pre-order date. Without oversimplifying, that means if you opt for the 128GB model you'll automatically get 256GB without any additional costs.

If you're unfamiliar with Sky Mobile, you need to build your own contract with all the minutes, data and monthly costs, but the basic plan starts with no up-front cost and £31 a month for 1GB of data.

Samsung Galaxy S23+

Samsung Galaxy S23+

Samsung's next step up in smartphone supremacy is the S23+, a larger, more accomplished handset along the same vein as Apple's iPhone Pro series, with a larger display, suped-up internals and a generally more competitive set of lenses for photography.

Our pick of the deals goes to EE, a network that runs some exceptionally good pre-order offers if you're quick on the purchase trigger. The best offer is for the unlimited data package, which will be £30 up front and then £86 a month. Too much data for you to handle? Gift any unused data each month to your family members on an EE plan like the magnanimous, charitable person that you are.

If you're feeling extra, there's an additional stand-out deal that still gets you unlimited data for £30 up front and £101 a month, but includes three inclusive extras that could be your choice of a free subscription to Netflix, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, BT Sport, Apple Music or the option to use your data abroad free of charge. Oh, and you can also upgrade literally any time you like without any additional fees. Dreamy.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S23+ SPECS

  • Selfie camera: 10MP wide
  • Battery life: 4700 mAh
  • Processor: Qualcomm SM8550-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
  • Internal storage: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB (with additional MicroSD card slot)

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Here comes the big boy. Samsung's Ultra-sized S23 is a mammoth of a device and will certainly come with a mammoth price tag, but you're paying for the absolute best that Android offers currently, it really is that good. Ignoring the obvious physical size, there's a whole load of upgrades to be found in the S23 Ultra. A supercharged 200MP periscope telephoto lens completes a world-beating quad-camera setup that excels at twilight shooting and zoomed-in shots. Up to 1TB of internal storage and a deliciously smooth display means this phone can handle all your bingeing and gaming needs without breaking a sweat.

If this sounds like your kind of phone, then jump right into the pre-orders now, though be warned it will set you back £1249 for the 256GB model, £1399 for the 512GB model and £1599 for the 1TB model. Hardly pennies but still worth it in our eyes.

So where's best to buy? Three, by some way, simply because you can get double data (for instance get 256GB even if you've grabbed 128GB for no extra cost) and an affordable monthly fee. It will be £65 up front but then an absurdly low £33 a month after that. If you send in your old handset you can get more money off per month to make it even more affordable.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S23 ULTRA SPECS

  • Display: 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X (120Hz refresh rate)
  • Dimensions: 6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 in
  • Weight: 234g
  • Rear camera: 200MP wide, 10MP periscope telephoto, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto
  • Selfie camera: 12MP wide
  • Battery life: 5000 mAh
  • Processor: Qualcomm SM8550-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
  • Internal storage: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB (with additional MicroSD card slot)
Samsung Galaxy S22

Samsung Galaxy S22

In almost all cases, it’s better to go direct to the source on your hunt for the best deals on a smartphone, particularly if you’re looking to buy the older and more affordable Galaxy S22 outright. Prices for the Galaxy S22 start at £769 for the basic entry-level 128GB (internal storage) and you can stump up that total fee or spread out the cost on a 0 per cent APR contract for £21.37 a month if you’d rather go down that route.

However, Samsung’s trade-in scheme is among the best in the biz, chopping off significant pounds off your total price – up to £370 – depending on how well-cared-for your older model is (properly dead handsets will still be accepted but prepare to see minimal price returns). Keep in mind that you’ll still have to buy/own a SIM card from a mobile network if you’re buying the handset outright, as Samsung doesn’t provide data, minutes or calls.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

Again, we’d recommend checking out Samsung’s own site to buy the S22+ as well, purely for the trade-in deal it offers alone, but if you want a dedicated mobile tariff on this Samsung phone, then EE’s offerings are among the better options we’ve seen.

First of all, it has swappable benefits, which are interchangeable free subscriptions to services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple Music, or BT Sport as part of your contract, which is a lifesaver if you also struggle to keep track of how much money you’re paying for streaming services.

The best-selling offer – according to EE at least – gets you 40GB of data and unlimited texts and calls for £50 upfront cost and £65 a month. If that sounds like too much data – most Brits only use between 3-8GB per month – then you can get 4GB per month for £100 upfront and then £57 a month. Alternatively, the unlimited data package is £30 upfront and £74 a month. Add in a swappable benefit to this package for an extra £7 a month.

And there’s also a decent trade-in system where you can give EE your old handset and save up to £14 off your monthly bill every month, even if it’s not in particularly good nick, so you can do your bit for the planet and also save a few quid.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Galaxy S22 Ultra

If you've got the cash to buy a smartphone outright – congratulations, it's not an easy thing to achieve in the cost of living crisis – one of the best places to sort yourself out with a modern smartphone is through Amazon. The digital marketplace typically has some reasonable discounts across the year, but the current one on the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a whopper.

A current 30 per cent discount drops the price from £1,249 down to £879, which is about as affordable as it's going to get for at least a little while. Of course, you don't get a phone contract this way, so you'll have to head over to a network of your choice to grab a SIM-only deal to get your data, minutes and calls. If you're already on a SIM-only system, this is a great way to save money overall as you usually have to pay over the asking price on a monthly contract.

  • Internal storage: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB (with additional MicroSD card slot)
Samsung Galaxy S21

Samsung Galaxy S21

The S21 is a bit longer in the tooth than our other top picks but still an excellent choice if frugality is foremost in your mind. Vodafone’s plans are up there with some of the more affordable, and the benefit is that you have quite a lot of freedom to choose how much data you want to adjust the price overall.

All plans will be over a 24-month contract, but the most affordable offer we saw will get you 2GB of data for £37 a month and £29 up front, which is about as cheap as you’re able to find this phone. It comes with 5G data compatibility as standard and has all the minutes and texts you could possibly hope to use, making it a top choice for anyone who isn’t particularly fussed about owning the latest smartphone. We’d also recommend checking out the offers on the slightly more premium models like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or S21 Plus, but given we’re all about saving you money here, check out the standard S21 first.
