Use of internal cross-region ALB for GKE ingress

Is there a way to define an internal ingress in GKE with an internal cross-region ALB instead of regional?

No.  Internal Ingress can and will only use the internal regional ALB.
We are planning to add support for cross-region backends to the Internal Multi-cluster Gateway, which will allow you to load balance across services in clusters in different regions.  Work is underway and you can track progress using https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/313704667.

I was able to use cross-region internal ALBs with an NGINX ingress instead.
