What appealed to me most about this book was the premise - Desperate Housewives meets the Couple Next Door, both of which I loved. I can see somewhat of a comparison, but I found the first half to be incredibly slow, and lacking the liveliness, wit and humour I expected from these comparisons. Happy Sunday! I just finished an extraordinary story...quite possibly my favourite historical fiction of the year. If you appreciate Fredrik Backman's writing style, this book is a must-read. For fans of character-driven stories with elements of mystery and historical fiction, particularly those set in small Midwestern towns, William Kent Krueger is an author worth exploring.
