We could do a separate one for TV if anyone is interested. I was thinking aside from Sookie/True Blood, that there wouldn't be nearly as many for the TV category. What does everyone else think?

We are not required to watch the movies too but I think many of us may want to for comparison.

Ok, here's a few that I have read/seen since I'm not going to do this challenge. July is just too crazy to read a book AND watch the movie (and wresting the tv controls from my husband is not easy either.)
The Guns of Navarone by Alistair MacLean
Where Eagles Dare again by MacLean
well, actually, lets just forget listing all of MacLean's books that have been turned into movies--since there's about 8 or 9 or 10 . . .
Now, here's one for "The Least Like the Book its Possible to BE" award
The Beast Master by Andre Norton and the movie AND TV series of the same name. Taking a SciFi book and turning it into a sword and sorcery movie/tv series. . . Just totally blew my mind.
And who can forget The Bourne Identityby Robert Ludlum. Someone didn't get past the first 2 sentences of the back blurb for THIS series. Sorry, but the books were a thousand times better.

Jaws by Peter Benchley. Total fantasy (and can we say rip off of Moby Dick--which also made it to the Big Screen) but the book was just ssooo much better than the movie. Except for the shark. Man, they did a GREAT job with that shark.

Have to disagree with you. I thought the movie was much better. The affair in the book between the sheriff's wife and the oceanographer just ruined the book for me and had nothing to do with the plot.

Remember, you're allowed two non-romance genre reads for this and you could use that book for one of those.

The romances were secondary of course to the whole breaking apart of the family, but they were there.

The idea of this challenge is to read 10 books that have been turned into movies. You have until the end of this year to complete it. You can post the list at any time but reading starts July 1st.
1. You are allowed one reread (I am making this rule with Eclipse in mind for those that want to reread it before seeing the movie)
2. You are allowed up to 2 out of genre books. Try to have the rest of your books be mostly romance. This IS a ROMANCE group after all :)
3. They can be books that you have seen the movie for or ones that you haven't.
4. You can post as you go or post ahead of time.
You can also post a list of more than 10 and pick and choose or have a list of alternates.
5. The MOVIE could be one that isn't realeased yet but is coming out sometime soon or one that has already been released.
EDIT: 6. By request of members of the group you are allowed up to 2 TV show books. (Sookie, Vampire Diaries etc.) This is in addition to 2 out of genre books allowed. You can even make one or both of these your out of genre pics. I doubt I will for my list though.
7. Books that spin off from a book that became a movie such as The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella will count as well.
This post was inspired from an email I got from Amazon. Here are the examples of books that would qualify that they sent me:
"Robin Hood" by David B. Coe
"Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert
"The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan
"Eclipse" by Stephenie Meyer
"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson
"The Extra Man" by Jonathan Ames
"The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks
"The Associate" by John Grisham
"The Ghost Writer" by Robert Harris
"Youth in Revolt" by C.D. Payne
I never made a challenge before and I hope I am doing this right. If not feel free to correct me!
HAVE FUN!
