I think it has more to do with other changes in my life this year, rather than anything to do with reading itself. I'm looking forward to getting my reading "mojo" back in 2018!

Hi Susan,I have a bunch of old favourites that I pull out when I'm feeling slumped. Some of them I've probably read a dozen times but at this point the familiarity is part of the appeal. I'm sure you have a bunch of these as well. I'd pull out one or more of these, the beverage of your choice, and just enjoy a good book or two without feeling any need to "achieve".

Now that you've completed all of your quilt blocks, you need to put borders on them so that they may be bound together to form the quilt top. Depending on the size of your quilt, you will select a given number of tasks regarding quilting history and lore, and quilting equipment to complete your quilt top. You do not have to pick your tasks ahead of time - just make sure you have completed the required number for your quilt size.

"Quilting" is the actual stitching that moors the quilt top to the batting (filler) and quilt backing. Sometimes the stitches may tell the personal history of the quilter, weaving images or words into the overall stitching pattern.
Below are several "stitch" tasks divided into the following three categories:
1) personal tasks - these stitches will give you a chance to add your 'story' to your quilt;
2) famous quilters;
3) books about quilts (fiction and non-fiction). Note: You may read a book not found on the list below; however, 'how to' books and illustrated block books are not allowed.
Depending, again, on your quilt size you will pick a designated number of tasks or books to read to complete your quilt. You do not have to choose tasks before starting. Feel free to mix and match between personal history, famous quilters, and books about quilting.

✣ Favorite Activities - Read a book that features any of your favorite activities (i.e. if you love going to the movies, read a book that takes place at a movie theater or a book about a film producer). This task may be used more than once if you have multiple activities you like. Tell us the activity and how your book fits. Limit = 5 activities / books.
✣ Favorite Subject in School - Read a book that somehow fits your favorite school subject; tell us how your book fits.
✣ Marital Status - Read a book where the main character shares a similar marital status. Tell us your marital status.
✣ Number of Children - Read a book featuring the same number of children in a family as you have; tell us how many children.
✣ Names of Children - Read a book with a main character who shares the same name as your child (reasonable spelling variations okay); tell us the name of your child. This task may be used multiple times - once per child.
✣ Favorite food - Read a book featuring your favorite foods (i.e. if you love bread, read a book featuring a bread maker); tell us your food. Task may be used multiple times but only once per food item. Limit = 5 favorite foods / books.
✣ Favorite Beverages - Read a book featuring your favorite beverages; tell us the name of your beverage. Task may be used multiple times, but only once per beverage type. Limit = 5 beverages / books.

Famous Quilters 'Stitches'
✣ Jennifer Chiaverini, beloved author of The Elm Creek Quilting Series, is a quilter herself. Originally, she was a professor in the English Department at Penn State and then Edgewood College (WI). Her original quilt designs have been featured in Country Woman, Quiltmaker, Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks (Vol. 3-5), and Quilt, and her short stories have appeared in Quiltmaker and Quilters Newsletter. ➜ Read a book featuring a college-level instructor or professor OR read a book that takes place in Pennsylvania or Wisconsin. ✣ Michael Cummings quilts in the narrative, story-telling tradition and is one of a few nationally known male quiltmakers. INGREDIENTS
2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 & ½ cups powdered sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour

1 (11.5 oz) jar salted caramel sauce (Smucker's Ice Cream Topping is the perfect size and available everywhere, but there are lots of brands, choose your favorite)
Sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line a 13x9" baking pan with foil, extending the sides of the foil over the edges of the pan. Spray the foil liberally with cooking spray and set aside. Do NOT skip the foil or the cooking spray, this is a very gooey cookie.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the butter and sugar until creamy and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in the powdered sugar and vanilla. Lastly, beat in the four (4) cups of flour until a soft dough has formed (feels a bit like Playdough). Press HALF of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Refrigerate the remaining dough.

Bake the crust for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven but keep the oven on. Pour the caramel evenly into the crust, then crumble the remaining dough on top to cover the caramel layer. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt, and remember that there's salt in the caramel sauce, too. I have made these without the salt as well.
Return to the oven and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and the caramel is bubbly. If the middle jiggles a little bit, this is okay - it will continue to cook as it cools. Cool completely, then refrigerate for at least an hour before cutting into squares. Easiest to cut when refrigerated overnight-very sticky.
