it was amazing

Oh, I LOVED this book. There is SO MUCH ANGST.

The world building is impeccable. I think I say this about all of Mel’s fantasy writing. She does such an amazing job with sucking you right into her storybook worlds.

Ornella (FMC) is resilient. My heart ached for her in many instances, but seeing her overcome it all was the best.

Nicholas (MMC) is sooooo grey. He’s interesting and definitely keeps you on your toes with his many “faces.”

Your emotions will be hot and cold + all over the place. I rooted for Ornella and Nic hoping they would overcome the obstacles, heartbreak, and resentment. The story is filled with secrets, lies + betrayals, and love + friendship.
This story seriously had me in a chokehold.

Tropes: found family, dark fantasy, romantasy, fae, morally grey MMC, enemies to lovers, forced marriage, touch her and d!e

Triggers: mentions of SA (not between main characters), PTSD from SA, parental deaths, suicidal thought idealizations, blood, and general violence

Things I loved: Flower crown memory. "Shadow King." The Shadow King's sisters. Ornella's smart mouth. Ornella's loyalty.
