I’m not going to lie, even though I liked this book a lot, I was also a little disappointed by it. It was hyped up as this amazing, dark but super funny book by some of my real-life friends and booktubers I follow, but it kind of fell flat for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was an enjoyable, engaging read (hence my rating!) but it’s definitely not one of my favourite books of the year.

What I liked:
-The sense of place was really strong here. I could vividly picture the town it takes place in and imagine the sort of people who live there.
-The main character was complex and drew me in. I love a female antihero.
-I liked the messy, complicated relationships and the dialogue.
-The way details of the main character’s past were slowly folded in was really well done.

What didn’t work for me:
-The humor was fine but not laugh-out-loud as it had been described to me. It felt like pretty standard quirky litfic humor.

Overall, I thought this book was very good, I just went into it with inflated expectations!
