did not like it

Well, here we are again. Yet another beloved, highly praised thriller that was pretty lackluster for me. This book has been all over #booktok with glowing reviews, and I. Just. Can't.

Three young girls go into the woods one day, and only two emerge. Naomi is eventually carried out, alive, but just barely. Liz and Cass cloud Naomi's barely there memory of that fateful day and convince her a serial killer is to blame for stabbing her 17 times. The thing is, Naomi doesn't truly remember that day and has reasons to believe that the sadistic serial killer may not be to blame for her scars[inside and out].

The book wasn't bad. It just was so fucking over hyped I was expecting something that blew me away. I read tons of thrillers, and this was just run of the mill for me, nothing special. It felt long, like really long, and it took me way over average to get through. I hate when reading is a chore. There were some interesting twists, but too many were expected. I don't vibe with this author, I had to stop reading "I am Still Alive" because it was so damn boring.

Overall, this was a basic, ok thriller. I'm not impressed, and it did not live up to the hype. What lies in the woods needs to just lie there because it's not as great as people are making it out to be. I would skip.🤷‍♀️

Addendum: This book was 320 pages- Istg it was almost 500, wow. Not to mention a character mentioned towards the end of the story was so unmemorable I had no idea who he was and couldn't find the fucks to give to skim back to find out. I was reading just to get it over with. This book was overdone, and Naomi was so unlikeable I didn't care at all what happened to her. I'm changing my rating from 2 stars to 1 star.
