it was ok
bookshelves: children, let-down, popular, unfunny
Read 4 times. Last read May 1, 2020 to May 2, 2020.

My opinion of the reread of this book hasn't changed much. When once the arrival of the other three siblings set my heart racing, now I feel drowsy. And a bit sad, too.

I've been wanting to write a fanfic about the Famous Five, and maybe I will. The challenge lies in the thought of a new angle. Or has the great Enid Blyton figured every good story idea? Somehow my will is resisting this ponderous, downish idea.

As for this book, it's too childish. It's more childish than the Enchanted Wood trilogy, or A book of Brownies. I'll probably never revisit this particular offering again. It's left better in my middle grade days.

Sandra I used to love the Famous 5. May be it’s best just to remember fondly the books we loved when young 😊. My favourite Enid Blyton series was Malory Towers !

I've never read Malory Towers. I'll be brave to the point of foolishness if I try a new Famous 5 book soon.

Teresa Sorry you didn't enjoy this one Luffy. I loved the FF and enjoyed them all up until the late teen ones. I remember liking this one a lot.

Debra sorry this one didn't work for you, Luffy. I hope your next one is a much better book for you.

I've become very picky throughout the years. But I hope to get out of this reading slump. Thank you, Debra!

Paula K Hope your next brings you more pleasure, Luffy!

I am definitely in a reading slump. Thanks as usual!

Sandysbookaday I much prefer Famous Five and Secret Seven to the Enchanted Wood. But we need to remember that we are living in a vastly different time to that when this series was written. And it's amazing the difference that a few decades can make to our perception and reading pleasure. 😷❤😍📚

Fair enough. For me the presence of Timmy kind is kind of a bummer. He has too large a role. If he was like Buster from the Find-outers, that'd be cool. There are a couple of fantastic Famous Five books, though.

Carol Anne Sad you didn’t enjoy Luffy. I guess we’re not Girls anymore so our take on these books has changed, sadly we become more cynical & judgemental as we learn to expect and appreciate more. I’d love to go back to my childhood self, living on a productive Wheat, sheep & cattle property in mid NSW Australia. Where the Thistles with their magic flowers were way taller than my 11 year old self. Dreaming 😓

Luffy Sempai Many of my compatriots are going to Australia as immigrants. You had a better childhood than mine. Btw, I'm a guy :)

Luffy Sempai Well we both agree that the book is childish. So what is the problem?

Luffy Sempai Nope, I just think that unlike Grimm's tales, Hans Cristian Anderson tales, Charles Perrault, and Aesop's fables, the test of time has not been kind to the Famous Five series.

Luffy Sempai John wrote: "We'll have to agree to differ. :)"

That works too. Thanks for the comments, John.
