it was ok

Before reading this, I suggest you take two Advil because I rolled my eyes so many times while reading this I gave myself a pounding headache.

Starts out OK though from the beginning you have to suspend logic to go along with the plot; by midpoint it falls apart into a series of cliched, trite, unsupported, silly plot points. The character development, so-called, is frankly unbelievable and downright ridiculous. I’m giving it an extra star because in the age of Trump I’m trying to be kinder in general.

No. Just no.

Betsy Robinson You made me laugh. Thanks. I concur with your brilliant opinion.

Deyanne I concur as well. We are minority you realize. I love your two Advil suggestion.
I started out wanting it to work. It rapidly fell apart for me.

Lauren I agree completely. "Cliched, trite, unsupported, silly plot points." Spot on.

Elizabeth Thanks for the giggles! I agree with your review 100%

Kris Marshall I was wondering if I were going crazier than usual as EVERYONE loves this book ( more than their firstborn son). My opinion was: have you ever been in a swamp? I have camped in the Everglades and it's pretty darn dangerous and difficult. Yet, somehow, a babe not only survives but becomes even smarter than the local teacher! Holy WHAT? Absurd. Hogwash. Silly.

Susi Hahaha! Ditto on the eye rolls. My skim reading skills were dramatically improved by the end of the book too!!!

Katherine Thank you thank you thank you. Everywhere I go people are talking about this stupid book!

message 8: by Pam (new)

Pam Agree 100%

Sharon Oxley Totally agree, except two stars is too generous. Trite rubbish.

message 10: by Al (new) - rated it 1 star

Al I think the adulation this drivel has received in part serves to explain the Age of Trump.

Siobhan LOL’ing at your review. Agreed. I got through it. But I was mystified by the hype.

Kate Dwornik I “Angry White Femaled” this at book club. I should have taken a Xanax along with the Advil. Such poor writing and an utterly ridiculous plot. I’m still shaking my head in disbelief at the popularity of this novel.

Josephine Briggs I enjoyed reading your review. You're right on.

message 14: by Faye (new) - rated it 2 stars

Faye Exactly the same, it sapped my energy. I'm still no closer to understanding why she did what she did in the 'suprise ending' or how she had any teeth or what on earth I was supposed to take away.

Lisa Letourneau I totally agree...i liked some aspects, like the beginning parts, however it came to the point where I just wanted the story to end...I found it long and boring, especially with many of the descriptions.

Chevon I agree! I sound Kya so, so annoying! Her hide from the world attitude really rubs me the wrong way. And she freaking killed someone and didnt take any responsibility for anything. I just did not like this story!

Janneh LMAO, you're better than me! I left my 1 star and went for my business.

message 18: by Katy (new) - rated it 1 star

Katy Agree! This is my favorite review. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever read, by far, but I do not understand all the praise. Maybe I wouldn't have minded it so much if I had pulled it out of the bargain bin on the way to the beach with zero expectations, but the entire time I was reading it, I was just trying to figure out if I was broken.

Julie This made me chuckle.

Josephine Briggs Love this review. It is so down to earth and so true. I didn't like the book either. It is silly and has too much child abuse and wife abuse.

Rob Cuevas .... the thing annoying beyond my means about this book, is the transliteration of that american southern accent... very unclear to me if it is for “authenticity” or mockery, because the dialogue is f*ckin awful.................... adding to the inconsistency in narrative (very descriptive at times, very pointless at times), i’m starting to doubt whether to finish or not.......

Josephine Briggs Rob, I do suggest you finish reading this book. I didn't like it, I know you are thinking of quitting the read, but you probably should finish it, or maybe not. A waste of time. Maybe. Better books to be read. But finish it off.

message 23: by Laura (new)

Laura Manuel I so agree. If you believe children can raise themselves, that reading without teachers will allow you to get a Ph.D., and that something doesn't need to be declared a murder to have a murder trial. this book is for you.

message 24: by Josephine (new) - added it

Josephine Briggs I love this review. It is so true. This book is so trite and boring.

message 25: by Anya (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anya And who killed Chase? How did he die? That was the only good thing about this book and then didn’t even tell us what happened!!

message 26: by Andy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Andy Metzger Haha

Serina Anya - Just a heads up that they reveal what happened, it’s at the end of the book in the poem Tate found from Kya

Ryanne Molinari This is quite possibly the best review possibly ever. You totally captured my thoughts on this one.

Mona Ewais Hi Luann, I 100% understand where you are coming from with your review. As I myself did find the book a bit cliche. Surprisingly, with the book being cliche, I think that's what made it enjoyable! I believe that Delia was trying to write a light enjoyable read rather than a book that requires a lot of logic and concentration while reading. But, if you are looking for a book that requires thinking and prediction, there are many other thriller and mystery books out there!
