I absolutely cannot believe I wasted time out of my freaking life to read this "book". I don't get the hype and I hate how relationships are portrayed in the story! Authors and reviewers here on Goodreads that I trusted trust raved about this book .... and I'm here lighting the fire so I can burn the pages.....
First of all... the writing is horrendous. It's the worst case of "tell, not show" I've ever seen (Twilight was better written than this): "I did this, she did that, now I'm gonna do this ...". There was no emotion in the writing, I did not feel any attachment toward the world of "Faerieland" and I couldn't connect with the protagonist, Jude, because I wanted to slap some sense into her the entire time : she acts recklessly, even when other people warn her repeatedly not to do the thing and for the first 200 pages she does nothing but complain, indulging in a self-pity party like there is no tomorrow. My heart bleeds 0_0.
Continuing - the other characters are 2D, the plot is non-existent for the first 200+ pages and the grand finale/epilogue everyone's been raving about....left me colder than a dead body dropped in Siberia. I could not care less.
An issue that had me concerned while reading this: the character who is heavily hinted as being the love interest: almost every scene in which he makes an appearance showcases how abusive he is, especially towards the MC and no one (from the reviews I have read) flags this as a major problem? . I have little patience for female (and male, for that matter) authors who write abusive love interests and then absolve them of all the nasty acts they have perpetrated . In the world of endemic sexual harassment and abusive behaviour, in the world of #metoo and the horrifying stories of women being treated like less than dirt, why do we fall for this type of characters? Why do we keep buying these books? And why do we praise the authors who write them???????.
I've wasted enough electricity writing a review for a book that will surely be my worst read of the year.

Oh ok. lol That's always a bad sign. It's so disappointing that so many promising books end up having the same bad themes nowadays. Abuse is the new romance for some reason, and strong somehow equals a heroine that's a doormat for it.

Yeah, I don't get it either. It's really shocking when this book is so problematic. And then the same people go and criticise the smallest of details in other books that depict healthy relationships.
this book isn't just problematic it's also clique and boring I honestly don't understand how it has such high ratings

[and i mean, i know people might SAY he's not a love interest but ...he is ...and they're going to spend the entire rest of the series like ...staring at each other while alternately thinking about how much they hate and want to bone each other and it's going to be awful and i can't do it lmao I CANNOT]

Definitely! But I'm guessing that's the appeal of it being clique-y: it's easier to talk about people (especially negatively) than to discuss ideas in an intelligent fashion.

Save yourself the money and time:))

Yes, along with other characters - I already forgot the names of the other douchebags
![Afoxamongstars](https://cdn.statically.io/img/images.gr-assets.com/users/1515015878p1/74758711.jpg)
Yup, that was my main gripe with this book/future series. How do publishers OK this????

I was suspicious this book was the type to have abusive relationships. It seems like those sorts of relationships are really popular in books, especially YA. I hated The Darkest Part of The Forest, so I had a feeling this would suck just as much!

Oh, and the thing that really gets me going: one of the characters that is hinted at being a possible love interest: he is abusive and no one fucking bats an eye (in the book or in the reviews I've seen). I am so done with female (and male, for that matter) authors who write abusive love interests and then absolve them of all the shit that they've done . In the world of endemic sexual harassment and abusive behaviour, in the world of #metoo and the horrifying stories of women being treated like less than dirt, why do we fall for this type of characters? why do we keep buying these books? and why do we praise the authors who write them??????? .
Finally! I'm shocked how there are hundreds of positive reviews and noone seems to be at all disturbed by this.

The writing is absolute shite!
The character development is ✨nonexistent✨
The character personalities are inconsistent as is the plot!
They were identical twins ffs and
let’s not talk about her sisters arranged marriage to that first guy that showed her ‘affection’ and didn’t treat her like ‘trash’ because he ‘saved’ her from the bullying and abuse and almost giving all control of her body to that shitty group of friends! And he still got with her knowing he was going to get with her twin! The abuse and extent to which this toxic group resorted to bullying her and her sister is unreal and completely insane.
To conclude, If you like this book, stay the fuck away from me.
P.s.
I read this a while ago so I don’t remember their names

- kidnapped him
- threatened him
- manipulated him
- literally made him her slave
They're both awful. That is the point of this book!

Also yeah Cardan is a red flag he may as well just transform himself into a tomato with his fairy powers or whatever but that's HOT. Who cares if he's like weird and nasty and cringy because the author said he's HOT and HOT is better. Cardan is BETTER because he's HOT. PERIOD.
