Read 2 times. Last read September 24, 2012.

Good history of the attempts to give Houston's poor in the 60s the tools they need to confront power in order to improve their own lives. The forces of reaction made sure that wouldn't happen. Gripping accounts of the TSU "riots," HPD's history of racism, and some real reactionary racists like George HW Bush, and former mayor of Houston, Louis Welch. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
