Dark Matter

The best part of theorizing about a multiverse with infinite realities is that somewhere there is a version of me that chose not to read Dark Matter. The use of a multiverse to justify an infinite number of realities and thereby claiming anything that can happen will happen is a cheap narrative device the author wildly abuses by the end, ultimately creating an infinity loop of boredom. Unfortunately we are the reality in which this awful book got published. Beyond the indulgence in multiverse mechanics, the characters are incredibly dull. If a version of the protagonist is intelligent enough to create the gateway to the center of the multiverse why does he spend 90% of the book obsessing over alternate reality versions of his wife and hijinx/near death ensues. Overly vague, repetitive and generally flat but a quick read nonetheless, mainly because nothing really happens. Or everything happened?

The beginning of this review made me spit out my tea in chortling amusement, and by the end I was convinced to give the book a miss. I give this review 5 stars! :D

I kind of like the book though. It has a neat concept. This wasn't only a fun read for me, I also learned a little too. Of course, travelling through dimensions & stuff isn't realistic. But it's a science fiction! I am starting to realize that people are just taking out some of their anger out on the books they read. But I gotta admit, your opening line was funny! XD
It's like dissecting a frog. You understand it better, but it dies in the process. Not my words BTW. It was used in different context, but I think it fits here.

And I absolutely love the ending. I'm gonna be honest, the thing about himself kidnapping himself was a little predictable for me.
But the part where all Jason's come to the one dimension? Not expecting that. I'm not sure what you mean about 'heavily abusing,' though. RIP.

I just re-read it this afternoon having forgotten I read it in August last year. Then I gave it 3 stars. What was I thinking? Today, I could only give it one star. Total crap writing.
Completely agree, don't understand what the hype was about. One dimensional characters and weak plot
Brilliant review that I completely agree with. As a science fiction fan that cut his teeth on Asimov and PKD, this book was a tedious read with a misleadingly high rating. Highly unrecommended.
The popularity of this book is truly mind boggling. I would have DNF but it's been on my to-read pile for ages and I saw the show is coming out next month, so I forced myself to finish. I still think the show has potential to be entertaining, but the book was just so poorly written.
Anyway, thanks for the chuckle with your review. I was thinking Blake might actually have one of those boxes, because in 99.999999% of realities in the multiverse, this book flopped.
