She is very upset at the beginning of the book when she finds out that her best friend Crystal who recently died left her frozen embryos to her. Pia doesn't know what do about this and is feeling very out of sorts when she walks into a meeting with football star Raoul (this is the same character from The Bakery Sisters series. Raoul is the high school football player that Nicole takes into her house when she finds out he was homeless). Raoul finds himself attracted to Pia despite the fact that she keeps breaking down in front of him and crying. He is in Fool's Gold for a specific reason, he needs to get over a traumatic event that happened in his own life. As he tries to move on with his life he finds himself drawn to Pia and her life.
I really enjoyed this book in the series. First, it was great to see how Raoul had grown up into an adult. I never knew there was going to be a series crossover, so it was a definite surprise. I also liked the Pia and Raoul together, they belonged with one another and it was awesome to see them discover that.
I don't know if there's going to be another book in this series, but if there is I would love to read it....more

I love Carr's Virgin River series but when I read one of her older stand alone books I was a bit disappointed. This book was actually written a few years ago and has been re-released so I went into it believing it would be similar to A House on Olive Street. But this one was loads better! So if you read her other stand alone and didn't like it, don't let that stop you from reading this one!
So a brief synopsis for those that want to know, this book followed the lives of four women. All have been friends since they were kids and all envied eachother just a little bit. As they say, the grass is always greener and such. But as we read the book we discover that each woman has her own problems and are trying to deal with it. Whether it's health, relationship, money etc... the women turned to one another for help (even if they were reluctant to do so)
It's really a story about overcoming obstacles and learning that it's not getting what you want that matters, but wanting what you already have.
I think the storyline that I really loved was that of Cassie. She was just trying to make her way through the minefield of relationships and she was striking out constantly. Then she stumbles upon a man who is the least likely to be "the one". As they discovered more about one another it was fantastic to watch the startling realization that they might just have something special.

The second story was by Stephanie Bond and I would rate her's a 4. Hence my overall 3 star rating :)
If you like sappy Christmas themed stories than you might enjoy this book. But I wouldn't suggest spending money on it....more

The ending implied there would be another book about a different couple, but I haven't found any information on whether it really will be made into a series.
Okay, since not many people have gotten around to reading this one, I will give a bit of a synopsis. Reule (can't figure out how to pronounce this one!) is prime of his people the Sánge, and while out on a hunting mission they realize that one of their pack has been taken hostage. They attempt a rescue of their friend and while in the process Reule "hears" someone else. He's a strong telepath and empath and when he hears the enormous anguish and loneliness he can't help but find the being that feels those emotions. And that's when he discovers a girl. She is covered in grime and has obviously been fiercely abused. Reule takes her with him back to his keep to try to help her. When she awakens she is scared of everyone and only wants Reule to be with her. Of course, others take exception to her improper behavior but something about her intrigues Reule. He discovers that she is unaware of who or what she is and she isn't afraid of the Sánge like most are. His pack is afraid she might be dangerous to him, but he can't seem to help his growing attraction to her. And as she becomes more comfortable in the keep the pack and Reule discover more about her and her abilities.
I have to say that this book was totally up my alley. It was romantic, it focused on the one couple and it was sufficiently cheesy and sappy enough to make me really happy. This book was more about discovering the possible relationship between Reule and the girl than anything else. Yes there were side stories and world building, but really I read it for the romance. I liked the world that was set up in this book, and while it reminded me a bit of Frank's nightwalker world, it was still different.
I've always liked Frank's writing style and her ability to really hone in on a particular couple while still developing an outside plot of interest and this book was no different. I think if you have enjoyed her nightwalker series and her spin-off Shadowdwellers series than you will enjoy this book....more

I've seen this book on a lot of friends shelves but for some reason I always thought it was a little out of my range. But finally my curiosity got the better of me and I am so glad about that because this book was really great. It had a solid suspense plot great sexual tension, a sweet romantic story, surprises and a little a bit of paranoia to it. I really can't ask for anything more from a book. I will definitely be reading the next in the series....more

I actually won this book through GR's I have been meaning to give this author a try as my friends here on GR's are so often giving her great reviews. I actually won this book through GR's giveaways, so I was really excited to give it a try. Now this book was originally published in '99 and was re-released for the holiday I guess. It was a part of Brown's Loveswept series so it's a pure romance not a romantic suspense like some of her other books.
Ria Lavender is an architect who discovers that after a one-night stand, with a man she hardly knows, that she is pregnant. She decides that the best thing for her is to confront him directly and inform him of their situation. Mayor-Elect Taylor MacKensie can't believe that Ria is waltzing into his office and telling him he will be a father, but he's even more stunned when she insists they get married. Now the two have to learn to live with one another and get used to the fact that they have a baby on the way. The story definitely takes some twists and turns and it keeps the plot interesting.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a sweet, heartwarming story. The sexual chemistry between Ria and Taylor was off the charts, but sometimes their fighting got a little out of hand. They seemed to argue about the stupidest things, but they always found a way to kiss and make up! The reason I didn't rate it higher was mostly because I disliked the ending. I thought it was slightly weird and a little creepy. I don't want to go into details because that would ruin the whole story for anyone who hasn't read it yet. But it just didn't seem to go along with the rest of the story.
I will definitely read another book by Sandra Brown, I think her romantic suspense might be a better fit for me....more

It's about a girl named Jackie who wakes up in a dumpster with no real memory as to how she arrived there. Then she finds out that there is this whole other world of creatures and that she's now one of them. She discovers she's what's known as a succubus. What I really like about Jackie is that she's innocent and she doesn't believe everything that these new people are telling her about the world. I always find it hard to believe when characters hear about this whole paranormal aspect to the world and they just nod and accept it. Jackie reacted like a normal person would, she was confused and she questioned what was going on. Then as the book continued on she was pretty much confused most of the time and had no idea what was going on. I thought it was great. Plus, the men in the book were pretty entertaining. I'll definitely be looking into the next book in the series....more

So I finally got a hold of it and now I understand why it was constantly out! It was a novella that brought the reader back to the world of the Wallflowers. We got a glimpse of how all the ladies were doing, and what their lives were like with their husbands. Also, in this book they Wallflowers were back to their schemes. Their mission was to make a match for Lillian and Daisy's brother Rafe Bowman. Rafe's father had a particular lady in mind for him to marry, and the Wallflowers were excited to help put the match together. First they need to help introduce Rafe to what polite behavior means, after all he's just an American who doesn't know any better.

I went in with lower expectations because I kept hearing that it wasn't a great story and it wasn't one of Howard's best works. Well I can say that I agree with the latter part of the statement. It wasn't one of Howard's best books but I don't think it was terrible.
There were some parts I found myself bored in, but other parts I found interesting. I think at this point I've read so many books about vamps that anything a little different draws my attention. She did write the vamps a little differently than others have and I think that's what kept me reading. The romance was not on par with her other books and it wasn't as interesting. But the concept of the immortal warriors, conduits and blood born's was definitely intriguing. There's another book coming out in the series and I think I will read it to see where the story heads next.
My one suggestion, if you've never read a book by this author, don't start with this one. Start with another and work your way to this one....more

We met Jamie in the previous book when she flew to Africa to try to save her sister Sophie.
We learn in this book that Jamie is a member of the Witness Protection program. She is reluctant to share her life with others in fear of them getting hurt because of who she is. When Chris comes back from a mission gone wrong, the FBI sends Jamie to determine if Chris was responsible for the deaths of his team. Jamie believes he's innocent but with the FBI pushing her, she has no choice but to continue the investigation. Chris and Jamie are forced together and when things from Jamie's past begin reappearing and threatening her once more she needs to decide if Chris is worth fighting for or whether she should run and hide.
Overall, I liked the way the series was ended, and I liked how Chris's brothers still remained in the story. The sexual chemistry between Jamie and Chris was pretty amazing, they definitely lit up the pages.
Then there was the side story of PJ and Saint which was a surprise edition and also really amazing to watch. At some points it seemed a little unbelievable but if you just suspend reality for a few minutes it was a perfect storyline.

I feel like a lot of their story went towards Sarah and Clutch and then later with Nick's brother Chris. The story sort of felt split too much, as if the author was more interested in setting up the plot for the last book in the trilogy. It was still a great follow up book and made me even more curious to read the last book.

I have seen it on a few of my friend's shelves and have been a bit of a rut lately so I decided to go out on a limb and try this series out. Needless to say I'm happy that I did. I blew through this book in about a day, it was really great. Suspenseful, romantic, alpha males everything I enjoy in a book.
Lieutenant Jake Hansen is the main character in this book, although his brothers are also featured quite often. Jake is a Navy Seal and at the beginning of the book is on a mission in Africa when he gets an emergency message that a civilian needs help. He goes to the site and finds Dr. Isabelle Markham naked, bound and bleeding. He saves her life and they make a connection with one another. When they return to the states, they run into eachother again and both are reluctant to admit the connection they formed. They both have their own healing to do and aren't sure if they are better off alone or with eachother.
I've already downloaded the next book on my kindle. I can't wait to find out what happens to Nick, Jake's brother....more
