Creative Team:
Writer: Marc Sumerak
Foreword: Robert Kirkman (Creator of Invincible comic book and producer of TV animated adaptation)
ONE OF THE TOP 10 BEST AMERICAN ANIMATED SERIES
While the official title of the book is “The Art of…” and therefore you may think that it’s only a visual item to the series and while it isn’t a proper companion guide, certainly this gorgeous hardcover edition, large format, printed in prestige paper in full color, is quite more than just an artbook since it contains a lot of behind-the-scenes information about the whole Season One of the animated adaptation of Invincible.
You have separated sections dedicated to each episode of Season One, with inside comments about what they wanted to accomplish on each of those episodes including color boards…
…along with separated sections with spolights on each of the main characters of the season like Mark Grayson (Invincible), Nolan Grayson (Omni-man), Debbie Grayson, Atom Eve, Cecil, The Guardians of thee Globe, etc… moreover sections about the whole production process of the animated adaptation. Also, separating each major section, you’ll have beautiful landscapes used in the animation.
Of course, in the same way that the animated series is “R-Rated”, you may say that this book is too, since you’ll have here and there, drawings of gore moments of the action used in the season.
But, definitely, this is a priceless collector’s item (and quite useful too!) to any fan of the animated adaptation of the bestseller comic book series.

REVIEW IN ENGLISH
Since I bought this book on Spanish, I will do the review on bilingual. This reference guide is part of a line of Anime related reference guides, published by a publisher house in Spain.
Mazinger Z was (and still is) one of the most popular Anime series in my country, Costa Rica, that became a popular culture phenomenon back in the early 80s (the series is older but until then arrived to local TV channels). It’s the pioneer series showing a person piloting inside of a giant robot (until then they were remote controlled like Gigantor and Giant Robo) changing the game in Anime series about giant mechas and creating the path to following series such as Voltron (Lion Force & Vehicle Force) and Arbegas, but also Anime series about mechas not so big like Macross (Robotech), Gundam and Patlabor.
It was the debuting Anime series for creator Go Nagai making him a legendary mangaka with a vast gallery of series such as Getter Robo (the first one about combiner/transformer giant mechas), Devilman and Cutey Honey, along with its own franchise with entries such as Great Mazinger, Mazinkaiser, Grendizer, Kotetsu Jeeg, Shin Mazinger Z, Mazinger SKL, etc…)
In USA was known as “Tranzor”, BUT let’s just forget that, since it was a terrible idea changing a cool name like Mazinger to that.
Beside of being visionary and pioneering in its sub-genre, Mazinger Z is still one of the best examples of the giant mechas due its care about its robotic enemies, since while many other giant mecha series are also cool to watch, but their own mechanical monsters were quite generic, but in Mazinger Z there was an awesome detail to design memorable looking enemy giant robots helping to solidify its entertaining value.
Moreover, Mazinger Z passes through an evolution process, making it better and better, refitting it to make able to battle under water, to be able to fly thanks to an additional device, along with increasing its already vast variety in arsenal of weapons.
This reference guide is definitely the best one that you can get in Spanish, since it’s in full color, has a detailed episode guide (not even on Internet you can find easily a decent episode guide explaining much), complete guide to characters (heroes and villains), mechas, vehicles and locations. You won’t find a better book about Mazinger Z in spanish than this one. Highly recommended!
¡Muy recomendable!...more

REVIEW IN ENGLISH
I've watched all the Pokemon movies but I haven't managed to watch all the seasons of the TV series, so I found this guide to be a great option to learn details about the TV series that I hadn't been able to watch.
The encyclopedia is totally full color illustrated and printed in prestige paper, it covers from the beginning of the TV series in the Kanto region to the Galar region, which is the season that was broadcast in 2021 (according to the United States), so only the season known as "Ultimate Journeys" would be missing (2022), of course without counting the present miniseries "Aim to Become a Pokemon Master" that is currently starting in Japan (2023) to cover the entire saga of Ash Ketchum and his pokemon friend Pikachu. However, it is the most updated option that you will be able to find at the moment and although I thought about waiting for another update of the book covering the rest of Ash Ketchum’s journey, I did not want to risk that it wouldn’t be another updated edition and being left with nothing.
The encyclopedia shows you the visual evolution of Ash Ketchum's character, from how he looked like in the first seasons to the most recent ones, all the pokemon he managed to catch, and a tour that takes you from region to region, showing the friends he met, the duels he did, as well as which pokemon are seen in each region, including legendary pokemon that were only seen in movies, but they do not go into detail about the events of the films, but for me that is not a problem, since it is the TV series from which I require the most information and the book manages to give it in plenty.
I think the only detail to mention is that since it is a book translated in Spain, it turns out that in that country, the first three seasons of the series kept the names of the characters as they were named in the American version (and that is how they were used in Latin America too) but from the fourth season they started to change some names (including one region) which is a bit confusing.
But overall, definitely, this "encyclopedia" is easily the most comprehensive option you can find on the "Pokemon" TV series.

The ultimate Hitchcock guide!
Original Writers from the French edition:

HITCHCOCK IN OTHER LANGUAGES
This is a review about a Spanish edition of this book published by Blume which it’s a translation from the original French edition. Even when I started to read it, there wasn’t a Spanish edition created on Goodreads so I clicked on the French edition, but now that I made the review I checked again and I found already created the Spanish edition, I almost chose the Kindle edition since that one has a cover photo for the book, hehe, but since I have the hardcover edition, well I clicked on this one. I am not sure if there is an English edition of this book.
While I love Hitchcock movies and I am a huge fan, I didn’t buy this book right away basically since it was more expensive than my usual budget for a book, of course this is a novel but a thick reference book in hardcover so it has the appropiate price, just I had to think over to make the investment. The first time the book was sold out and I thought that I wouldn’t be able to get it, but luckily it was available again, and then I didn’t hesitate anymore and I buy it, and definitely I am thrilled about having this incredible book.
DREAM COMPANION FOR ANY HITCHCOCK FAN
This reference book is a comprehensive guide of all 57 films directed by Alfred Hitchcock, including not only his cinema theatrical ones but also some TV movies that he directed too. Moreover, beyond his complete filmography, the guide includes 20 of his best TV episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents directed by himself.
The book comments about Hitchcock life before directing and later it’s exposed by each decade, his entire filmography, along with specialized sections focused in diverse topics.
Each movie has several pages dedicated, obviously some films such as Psycho have even more pages, but I can assure you that even his most obscure works possess various pages covering them in a respectful way. Each movie is presented with a resume about what it’s about, its history of how was made, the information about issues on production, casting, where you can find a Hitchcock cameo, comparisons with previous or following works, etc… and even an impartial indication of how the film was received by critics and general audience, everything illustrated with gorgeous full color movie posters and black-and-white photographs of movie stills but also behind-the-scenes moments.
Obviously the TV episodes have less space coverage but you can get quite enough information about them too.
The specialized sections are focused in key topics such as the use of the MacGuffin, his fetiche for blondes, expositions of usual actors like James Stewart, Ingrid Berman, Grace Kelly, but also people of production like Edith Head (role model for Edna Mode from The Incredibles).
This is a massive reference book of almost 650 pages, therefore you can be sure that you can’t find a better sourcebook about Alfred Hitchcock’s career than this one.
This is one of the best reference books about the Wizarding World of Harry PotterThis charming book will put a spell on you!
WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA
This is one of the best reference books about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter that you can get nowadays in the market!
It's a comprehensive guide to ALL the spells (well, maybe not all, all, but having moren than 240 spells, I can tell you that it's the closest thing that you'll ever find around) used in ALL media about Harry Potter, not only novels (the core seven books along with the theater's adaptation of The Cursed Child) or movies (even there is a spell from a deleted scene from Deathly Hallows, Part 1), but also the video games (regular ones and LEGO versions), the trading card game and even tie-in official books (like Quidditch through the Ages) and JK Rowling's website...
...and the best is that it's updated to date (it was published around middle 2019), therefore including even The Crimes of Grindelwald film...
...so, it's easily the most updated Harry Potter reference book around nowadays (March 2020).
SECTUMSEMPRA
The book is in gorgeous hardcover, fine paper and using an additional purple ink to avoid being merely in black-and-white. Since it's an "unofficial" book, you won't find any picture but besides that, I can assure that the book has a charming (pun intended) presentation.
The book is so complete that you'll find along with the spells, also you'll find a guide to the different kind of woods and cores' materials used for wands.
The spells are in alphabetical order, but divided in three major sections: Spells (including counter-spells, healing spells, transfigurations, conjurations), Charms, and Curses, Hexes & Jinxes, but also a further section for Enchanted Objects.
You'll have a detailed explanation of each spell, including for what it's used, if required a pronunciation (along with a translation, since many are in Latin), or indicating that it's a non-verbal one, along with a visual graphic showing if it's required certain movement of hand using the wand. Moreover, indicating a "Magic Moment" (a moment when the said spell was used in a book, movie, video game, etc...), and going beyond with notes revealing even more context information about each spell, and even "hand-written" notes (very much like in the way of Half-Blood Prince).
Also, while it's alphabetical (per section), inside of Enchanted Objects, if some objects share a common topic (like The Deathly Hallows or the sports implements for Quidditch), those said objects are found in an easy to grasp entry.
So...
...if you didn't get your invitation letter for a Magical School or you don't want to wait seven years to learn all the spells...
...this book is a "must-have" one for any Harry Potter fan!

This “Little Book of” isn’t as little as you may think. Certainly it’s small (in the sense that it’s 5” x 7”) BUT it’s 192 pages long! Where you can appreciate the impact of Iron Man, inside and outside the comic books, through a visual-and-text journey.
This an European-licensed product which begins with a prose introduction “What's Extraordinary about Iron Man?” presented in three languages: Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
After that, you start an unstoppable tour, divides per ages (Silver, Bronze, and Modern) about many of the main highlights in comic books but also its media appearances in TV & Films, both live-action and animated.
The book is quite good, and it covers most of the best storylines about Iron Man, and while the most recent runs aren't that detailed, still it's a pretty good reading experience.
Obviously, with characters like The X-Men, even in 192 pages, you can’t cover everything, but honestly due its cheap price, you can’t ask of something as good as what you get here....more

While it was a really good reading experience, I felt that it didn't cover some relevant characters like Rogue, but also it didn't mention relevant runs like X-treme X-Men, and even a major storyline like The Age of Apocalypse was too briefly mentioned without showing the huge impact in the X-titles.
But, it was something that I kinda expected since a reference book about a super-hero team with so many characters in its different rosters, it's quite a challenge to be able to feature all in the proper way.
Obviously, with characters like The X-Men, even in 192 pages, you can’t cover everything, but honestly due its cheap price, you can’t ask of something as good as what you get here.

I enjoyed quite a bit this book since my knowledge about The Hulk is kinda limited since I haven't read many comic book about him, therefore, this book allowed me to get deeper as never before in certain storylines and iconic covers focused on The Hulk.
But, even the book didn't limit on just him, but also, there are several pages dedicated them to his famous cousin, She-Hulk, so that was a wonderful unexpected bonus.

This book is a guide to many of the best books of all time, but as you must suppose, in every book that tries to gather the best about something, the experience was both illustrating and outrageous.
Illustrating, because I definitely learned a lot about authors and their books that I honestly did not know existed; as well as to better understand several books that I knew existed but that I was not clear about what they were about.
Outrageous, because several authors that I consider relevant were totally ignored (Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Le Guin, Stephen King, Michael Chrichton, Paulo Coelho) or relegated to the "Other Works" section (JRR Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe) as if they were less important, or even worse only mentioned as side notes (JK Rowling, Dan Brown, Isabel Allende). Also, in some cases they chose a book that I do not consider to be the best one to represent the author. And although they covered most literary geographical areas, they left out a relevant one like contemporary Scandinavian literature. And they ignored a genre like "Graphic Novel" where they could easily mention at least "Watchmen", "Maus" or "Persepolis".
But, in general, about the books and authors that they do appear, I learned a lot, so definitely, it is the best reference book I have read this year (2018).
Obviously recommended for all lovers of reading.

REFERENCE BOOKS... THE FINAL FRONTIER
I have an absurd quantity of Star Trek reference books, and while of course, I haven't them all, I think that I can be so boldly to tell that this reference book is without a doubt the best and coolest reference book about Star Trek so far (2018).
Reference books about active media franchises, obviously are almost outdated at the moment of publication, but in defense of this one in particular, since it was published in 2016, it contains since the first Original Series until the film Star Trek: Into Darkness soooo...
...at this particular moment, it only lacks the info about the movie Star Trek Beyond and the first season of Star Trek: Discovery...
...true, it isn't complete, but at this moment, certainly is the most complete reference material that you can find printed on paper...
...and since it's a DK Publishing book, also you can buy it in a quite accessible price, taking in account that it's a hardcover (including dust cover) edition, with prestige paper, in full color each page!
BEAM ME UP!
An interesting (and quite logical) thing that it was done in this reference book was that they accomodate the info in a "chronological" order, inside of the fiction of the franchise, I mean that since Star Trek: Enterprise is a prequel to the Original Series, you find first the information about Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew before of the exploits of Captain James T. Kirk, and so on.
When they touched a topic or event related to the "Kelvin Timeline" (Abramsverse), they counted how it happened in the original timeline and right after how those same events unfolded in the other timeline, to have a full scope of both parallel universes.
You find first a chapter, recounting of how the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet were formed, along with the key alien races involved in the consolidation of those organizations, along with key situations like the Mirror Universe and the Kelvin Timeline.
Then, you'll have a following chapter offering dossiers of each Starfleet crewmember of each TV series, along with the starships and/or station (sadly with some omissions like Saavik and Ro Laren (oh well, nothing is perfect)).
Third chapter you read about villains of the franchise along with their allies, and including pivotal space battles and wars, like Khaaaaaan!, the Klingons, the Romulans, the Cardassians, the Dominion, the Borg, the Species 8472, the Bajorans, the Ferengi, etc... along with the Battle of Wolf 359, the Earth-Romulan War, the Dominion War, etc...
Fourth chapter is dedicated to the futuristic (and many times, visionary) technology used on the franchise, Warp engines, transporters, communicators, universal translator, holodecks, phasers, cloaking device, etc...
Finally, a chapter about certain aliens that aren't quite "normal" and/or isn't easy to fit them as friends or foes of the Federation, like "Q", the the Talosians, the Metrons, the Prophets, the Nacene, the Guardian of Forever, etc...
In each chapter, each topic counts with fulll color photos along with text boxes, quotes, and even exclusive diagrams.
Moreover, you'll find a glossary explaining of that technobabble that you get to love when you become a Trekker.
This is a must-have book for any Trekker and a wonderful piece for any new fan interested to know the past history of the iconic sci-fi franchise.

HARLEY'S VISUAL JOURNEY!
Since her debut on Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn evolved from being just a sidekick for The Joker, to become a main character on her own, whom nowadays already have more solo comic book titles and different runs than her ol' boss. In this book you can admire her comic book career in the pages of DC Comics.
This is a great artbook, which includes an original print by Amanda Conner, from the artwork used on the cover.
There is an introduction by none other than Paul Dini (co-creator of Harley Quinn), and from there, you'll be taken through a visual journey since her first appearance in comics by Bruce Timm (the other co-creator of her), and all her solo runs in DC Comics (ongoing titles and miniseries), along with her appearance in some Batman and Detective Comics comic book issues, and also her participation in Suicide Squad and other titles.
The artwork isn't about only covers, but also many inner art featured in the mentioned titles, showing her several different looks through the years in comic books.
Each section includes prose information, so it isn't only an artbook but also a great reference book about your favorite clown princess of crime.
Published in large size, hardcover, prestige paper and full color, it's a gorgeous edition, essential to any fan of your favorite looney criminal psychiatrist, Dr. Harleen Quinzel....more

RELIGIOUS(LY) READING
The first thing that comes to mind is a quote from the novel Virgin by Mary Elizabeth Murphy (aka F. Paul Wilson): God created Faith to unite us, but Man created Religion to separate us.
Because even within several of the most popular religions that worship the same God, there are several subgroups that generate separations within the same religion.
I was looking for this book for a while and I am very happy to have finally found it, since the book is as good (if not better) as I imagined it. And at an affordable price, thanks to the fact that it is published by DK, which is usually a suitable combination of hardcover, prestige paper in full color, but at a reasonable price.
The Book of Religions, as the title indicates, is a book where you can find the origin and the most punctual elements, such as sacred texts, founders and relevant preachers, central ideas, evolution and ramification, key chronology, highlighting geography, average census of adepts, significant divisions, etc... of the majority of the most popular religions in history, such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, but also primitive beliefs, as well as modern religions.
By having all those beliefs and religions in the same book, it is very practical to see certain similarities between them, and to note relevant coincidences such as the 6th Century B.C., it was a key moment in history where most religions consolidated to start creating their own impacts around the world.
This is an essential book for all those interested in knowing about the other religions that exist and/or existed, but also to learn a little more about their own religion, whatever it may be. Definitely it is a lot of overwhelming information to be able to fully understand it in the first read, so I have no doubt that I will be returning to this book many times to read it again.
And do not forget that in the end, the most important thing is to have faith in God (no matter what you call the Higher Power in which you believe) and seek to live in peace with your peers.
LECTURA RELIGIOSA(MENTE)

REVIEW IN ENGLISH
I don't know about other Latin American countries, but here, in Costa Rica, Paco y Lola is the basic book with which entire generations, for many, many decades, learned how to read in Public Primary School, when I was a kid.
Since nowadays there are more and more private schools in my country, I am not certain if this book is so widespread used in the current educational programs as it was in my days at school (in 1979 I was in First Grade), but since I still watch the book in bookstores, in the Education Sections, I guess that at least in public schools is still in use, but I wouldn't be surprised if private schools are using a "more sophisticated" option,...
...but to me, this book is quite important, since it was the book with which I learned to read and it opened to me an unlimited universe of knowledge and stories.
Thank you, Paco y Lola and thanks too to Emma Gamboa (the author), since I'll never be able to be grateful enough for giving me the priceless gift of reading.

IF TOBIN WON’T COME TO…
I knew about this book due an announcement in the Previews magazine, and I waited, and waited, and waited, and you know what else? I kept waiting…
…but since it didn’t come to my local comic book store and my usual local bookstore as a regular item of their merchandising stocks, well, I had to take the matter in my hands and…
…ask about it in the bookstore to order it!
And happily, the book was available to order it and the cost was totally fair, so I order it and three weeks later…
…there is in my hands!!!
This book is gorgeous!!!
It’s hardcover, using an impressive kind of thick material for the pages, presenting the info in prose format but adding creepy good pictures (black-and-white exclusive original artwork for this book) of each paranormal entity mentioned.
KNOW YOUR TOBIN
This is an “abridged” edition of the famous Tobin’s Spirit Guide, the best encyclopedia about the paranormal entities that appears in the Ghostbusters original movies and related media, “written” by Dr. Ray Stantz and Dr. Egon Spengler (two of the original Ghostbusters), with the “help” of Erik Burnham and the astonishing artwork by Kyle Hotz.
The Tobin’s Spirit Guide, “originally written” by John Tobin, is supposed to be such thick book that isn’t practical to be used in the field, so Dr. Stantz had the idea of making an “abridged” version, easy to carry for any paranormal investigator when they are out there looking for ghosts and other phenomena on the field, so Dr. Egon Spengler reluctantly agreed to help, and both made this book.
This edition not only cover some of the “original” entries by John Tobin but also several of the cases that the Ghostbusters had to face (in movies, animation TV series, comics and video games).
GHOSTBUSTERS' ROGUE GALLERY
The paranormal entities are separated in five sections:
Ghosts of New York
Where you will find several of the ghosts, all born, raised… and died… in New York City, usually bothersome but not really dangerous.
Doesn’t matter if they appeared for only a few moments, you still get a detailed account of their background, their classification and paranormal definition.
You bet that you will find all-favorite Slimer here!
Assorted Apparitions
This second section is dedicated to the kind of paranormal entities without a clear personality or a distinctive personal name, so they are usually defined by their general group classes.
Metaspecters
Here, the game leveled up!
You’ll have in this third section, dangerous minor demons and powerful mean ghosts, usually Class VII, in the likes such The Sandman, The Grundel and…
…the fearsome Bogeyman!
Among many others!
Gods and Major Demons
Welcome to Major Leagues! Now you’re playing with the Big Boys!
In this fourth section, you’ll met the evil creatures with a sole goal…
…the end of the world!
They are without a question the most powerful threats that the Ghostbusters have ever to face, since we are talking about of monsters like Prince Vigo of Carpathia, Wat, Cathulhu (no, I didn’t misspell it, in the Real Ghostbusters was named in that way) and of course…
…Samhain, the Spirit-King of Halloween Night!!!
Among many others!
Gozer
Gozer, the Gozerian. Gozer, the Traveler. Gozer, the Destructor.
It’s not surprising that the arch-nemesis of the Ghostbusters, their most powerful enemy ever, has its own dedicated section, along with its infernal companions and the followers of the unholy Cult of Gozer.
You’ll know what is to be roasted in the depths of a sloar in this fifth and final section of this astonishing book!
