On a routine day at work, she discovers a man deceased in a hotel room she has to clean. What follows is a story of mystery, betrayal, grief, humor, friendship, and finding love in unexpected places.
It never comes out in the book specifically, but given Molly’s perceptions and behaviors, Molly seems to be on the autism spectrum. As an autistic person myself, I could relate to Molly on so many different levels. Molly takes everything literally, she’s painfully honest, she has a structured daily routine that she never strays from, her coworkers think she’s weird and they gossip that she speaks like a robot.
Besides Molly, there are so many characters in this story who I adored. A loveable doorman named Mr. Preston, the dishwasher in the hotel's kitchen Juan Manuel, Detective Stark, and Molly’s landlord Mr. Russo.
The Maid is such a delightful and heartwarming tale. I would recommend to readers of cozy mysteries, and for fans of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime.

The writing was absolutely magnificent. I loved the main character and her relationships to her childhood friends in Mendocino.
Anna has not had such an easy life, she faced many tragedies and heartbreaks in her past but she showed such strength and resilience. I can’t remember rooting so much for a leading character in novel, as I have with this one. At first I did feel as if the story was a little too slow of a start and buildup for me. Personally, I like a more fast paced story. But I am so glad that I persisted and finished this book because I absolutely loved it. The ending was very satisfying. This is my first Paula McLain novel so I will definitely be reading her previous works. I believe this book will be hugely popular in 2021!.

ItAnd Now She’s Gone introduces readers to a new private investigator, Greyson Sykes. On Greys very first case, she is tasked to find Isabel Lincoln. It seems that Isabel is missing by choice and her cardiologist boyfriend, Ian O’Donnell is determined to find her because when Isabel disappeared, she took Ian’s beloved dog with her. Grey knows domestic abuse all too well, and she’s not going to betray a fellow woman running from an abusive relationship. But perhaps, things are not always the way they seem.
First off, this book has a very important message to get across about domestic abuse survivors. I thought all of the characters in the book were very well developed. The main character Greyson was very like able and I rooted for her throughout the book.
I think it’s just me but for some reason this book just didn’t click with me. I enjoy a slow burning suspense novel but I felt this novel lagged way too much. I also felt that there was a lot of buildup for a certain outcome that just never happened.
But take my opinion with a grain of salt and do not let it deter you from picking this story up. My best friend(whom has the most impeccable taste in books) swears that this is on her list of top ten books of the year. On top of that, there are so many more readers that absolutely loved this book....more
I find it very hard to not compare this book to The Whisper Man, even though they are two totally different stories. Overall I did enjoy this book. I felt as though it lagged in parts and the ending kinda fell flat. Although there was one surprise twist that I didn’t see coming.
I think maybe my expectations for this book were way too high because I absolutely loved The Whisper Man. It had one of the most unforgettable storylines and characters, it is definitely one of my favorite reads from last year.

I am one that never gets scared but this book actually scared me, but in a good way. I’ve had this book for so long and I’m slapping myself for just now picking it up.
There is so much to say about this book, but I don’t want to give anything away so all I can tell you is there is a sick psychopath out there abducting little boys in the present, a sick serial killer serving life in prison for abducting and killing little boys 20 years, an emotional damaged DI who’s determined to catch the killer and then there is little Jake and his dad Tom Kennedy.
Tom Kennedy is the most wonderful character, a grieving widow whose wife died suddenly and unexpectedly and now finds himself trying to raise his sweet, overly sensitive 6 year old son Jake, by himself, and is struggling with it. My heart broke into a thousand pieces every time Tom told us his story and his feelings. His honesty and raw emotions were so real that it was sometimes difficult to remember this is a work of fiction.
Then there is little Jake, grieving over the loss of his beloved mommy, frightened and confused by things happening around him but such a sensitive sweetheart I wanted to give him a big hug and tell him everything was going to be ok.
THE WHISPER MAN is so chilling, creepy and unsettling that I had to stop reading several times to catch my breath and remind myself it’s only a story. This is a superb book and I highly recommend it – but remember to make sure your doors and windows are closed. ...more
