This is onThis marriage of convenience story was practically perfect and everything Wendy Darling promised it would be when she recommended it to me. This is one of my absolute favorite tropes, and I've rarely seen it done so well, with so much care shown to the characters and their own internal battles.
The characters were just so well written and fleshed out, I don't know if I could actually pick a favorite. From the believable depiction of neurodivergence in the heroine, the philandering but oh-so-gentle duke trying to save his estate from ruin, to the vigilant yet forgiving nature of Mama Katie and the compassionate Scottish doctor, I love them all. Which means I'll likely have to continue on with this series just to see how everyone else's story unfolds....more

My bad. I mean, the covers are even similar so I don't know how I missed that. In any case, it prompted me to go back and re-listen to those books for a refresher, which was good because I was really not connecting with Brie or Finn before that, and there was one encounter with Sebastian that left me...curious. So, yeah. Glad I did that, even if I was mostly done with this book when I did, lol.
I think I was enjoying the book more when I just thought Jas was a main character in her own right. And I mean, she still is, but as the threads of the story were weaving together in my mind, it felt a bit more contrived after remembering the back story. I think the previous series kept me guessing a little more, whereas with this new series, I feel like I saw every twist coming before it happened on the page. Possibly a little heavy with flashbacks and foreshadowing, but maybe those will help me remember and retain more of the details for when the next book releases. (It won't, but a girl can dream.)
Even so, I enjoyed the dual narrative, the parallels as the two young women embarked on their different missions. Loved the fact that we get a lot more Misha time, too. ;)...more

But it was exactly what I needed to read today. I don't remember what prompted me to add it to my holds list at the library, but I didn't re-read the synopsis before starting, so I thought I was entering a fantasy based on the title. :D
Turns out, it's just about a young woman who gets some bad news and decides it's high time she get out from under her RIDICULOUS family's thumb. I'm sure we can all relate, to some degree. I loved how her dream of The Blue Castle manifested and how put out her family was and just how delightful the main character was through it all.

HA! This book hurt my heart AND made me so angry at times. Having said that, you know Lynn would never do us dirty, though, so trust in that.
And know that you'll probably be even more of a Wesley fan than you already were after reading from his perspective and knowing what's transpired in his life to lead to the demise of #WesLiz. Like, total heart eyes for this guy the entire book. You're just rooting for Wes to get the girl back, to restart their happily ever after.
Liz, on the other hand, is not the same girl we met in BTTM. She's jaded and not at all the fanciful little love lover that she was when we last saw her. It was heartbreaking at first, but then she does something so completely out of Little Liz's playbook that I can't believe she didn't catch hell for it later. And I also hate that I didn't get see that bit of comeuppance, which I guess probably happened in between the last chapter and the epilogue. *sigh*
I read an ARC of this, and I will say that it didn't read as smoothly as BTTM, but I'm going to chalk that up to it being an unfinished copy. The inner monologues had the characters swearing to God quite a bit so that it became an almost constant refrain whenever they were irked, but at least Lynn never resorts to having them say "on God" or whatever the kids are saying these days, lol. Though I guess that's probably a generation after these guys since they're in college. *shrugs*
I'll be picking up the audio when it releases, so I'll probably come back and revise my rating at that time. Can never get enough of these two! And there's a new group of friends to meet, too -- and some old friends make an appearance! OH! And I'm really hoping for an adult novel featuring Lilith and Ross and whatever was happening -- or happened! -- with them, lol. *fingers crossed*
