Personally, I’m not a major fan of these kinds of books unless theirs a killer on the loose picking the characters off one by one (that’s NOT this book). Basically, this is a novel about a group of teens who try and take a shortcut so they can get to a party but end up getting stranded. There’s a lot of childish behavior that goes on and I found the characters to be whiny and annoying which really took away from the story for me. However, the setting was good! I felt the cold seeping into my bones while reading. I encourage readers to check out reviews from others before deciding whether this will be a book for them!

If you’re a fan of locked room style mysteries (especially if the characters are locked in a house together during a hurricane) then this would be a good book to choose! Overall, I liked this book and read it in nearly one sitting. It definitely has those mean girl vibes, and the killer was unexpected. However, it didn’t have much buildup in terms of the suspense for a murder mystery; everything happened so fast. One minute everyone’s drunk and the next minute they find a dead body. THEN they end up at the hands of the killer right after. It felt like there were missing pages. When I read a thriller book – doesn’t matter if it’s YA or not – I want to feel some sort of tension and I just didn’t feel it while reading this one. The only tension was between the characters because they were clearly all backstabbing each other. No matter, it’s a good book but was definitely missing something for me. I do plan to read the author’s previous novel though and look forward to seeing how she deals with a snow themed mystery.

I enjoyed this one a lot and finished it in nearly a day (sleep got in the way of course). I love how the missing friend’s aspect played a prominent role in the mystery and was quite shocked when I found out what happened to them. It certainly made for a twisted read!
If you’re a fan of young adult mysteries that revolve around secret societies, gothic structures, a boarding school setting, puzzle solving (both the mystery and the games they play), and disturbing secondary characters then this is a must read for you! It’s books like this that make me LOVE the YA mystery genre!

It’s the perfect young adult mystery that takes place at a summer camp in the summer (my favorite season!). While her books are what I would consider to be a “slow burn” she’s able to pack a lot into it with only 330 pages. I did have a feeling as to “who-dun-it” and why (which isn’t revealed until the end) but I enjoyed the story despite that. Normally that puts me off, but it doesn’t seem to phase me when Jessica Goodman is writing it!
If you enjoy young adult mysteries, then I not only recommend tis book but her backlist as well. I like how she takes mundane things and turns them into stories with good plots, fantastic characters, and nostalgic settings!

Normally, books that have been posted all over social media and talked about endlessly tend to let me down because I go into them expecting more than they deliver. That wasn’t the case here. This is one solid mystery novel and left me feeling intrigued, perplexed, and absolutely captivated! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like this before, one where puzzles and riddles are used throughout the plot in order to solve a mystery, and I truly loved it. I now want to find more books like this because I was so consumed by them.
All in all, this is a solid read by the author and I’m really glad I gave it a chance. I love a book where the characters are faced with things they can’t control and need to work out how to get through them and his is exactly what this book is. The characters are great too. So, I definitely recommend this one. I can’t wait for my copy of the next one to come (PS: this IS a trilogy and must be read in order).

There’s really nothing wrong with the story aside from the believability and I read it in one sitting. It’s fast faced, has a good mystery, and is perfect for summer as it takes place on a cruise. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with this setting either which is one of the main reasons I wanted to read it! If you’ve enjoyed THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 by Ruth Ware and are looking for a young adult version of that then this would be the perfect summer read for you!

I absolutely DEVOURED it and am practically kicking myself for not reading it sooner. I’m so glad I read it as a group buddy read because had I not it would have been even longer before I read it! I say that because I’ve been let down by so many books and I tend to put them to the side because I fear it will happen again. Does anyone else suffer from this? It’s horrible.
A Good Girls Guide to Murder is an epic young adult mystery with an amazing cast of characters and a mystery that had me both shocked and intrigued! I love how the MC of this one (Pippa) is using her senior capstone project to solve a murder when she feels the person everyone is convinced did it, actually didn’t do it! She’s smart, quick witted, and clearly has a knack for asking the right questions and talking to people and it is shown through the writing here. I actually loved it so much that I went ahead and bought the next two books because I am downright obsessed with it. Take my word for it, this book is THAT good. It's well written, fast paced, and unputdownable!
If you enjoy young adult mysteries, then this is a must read for you. The killer will shock you; the plot will suck you in, and the 400 pages that encompass this story will fly by so quickly that you’ll finish it in a day or two. It’s probably one of the best YA mysteries I’ve read to date to be honest! So read this one if you haven’t already. The blurb doesn’t so the book justice! It’s so much better than described!

I’m really glad I did too because I needed a book like this to shake things up before I ended up in a book slump!
Clown in a Cornfield is a young adult horror novel. As you can see from the title its basically a horror book about a clown (or clowns) stalking kids at a party in a cornfield. There is some blood and gore so if this stuff bothers you then this wouldn’t be a book for you! But if you can look past all the slasher aspects (or even enjoy them!) then I definitely recommend this one! I really enjoyed how not only was this a bloody horror book, but it also had a message too. It’s not just meaningless killing for no reason.
If you’re a horror fan and enjoy the slasher horror genre, then I recommend giving this one a try! Book 2 titled Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives releases in August! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment because the end is pretty open-ended (but not exactly a cliffhanger if that makes sense).

Don't get me wrong its not a BAD book, it just wasn't really for me. I think things got a little too strange for me and keeping up with all the lies and secrets made it feel too chaotic. Review Snapshot : Readers have been saying that The Obsession by Jesse Q. Sutanto is the young adult version of YOU by Caroline Kepnes and I totally agree! If you decide to pick up this one, then you need to be ready for a wild ride!

I enjoyed The Obsession quite a bit! It’s not my favorite book in the world and I probably wouldn’t read it more than once (unless the second one knocks my socks off) but I did have a great time reading it! In fact, I was so into it that I ended up reading it in almost one sitting! It’s definitely a young adult version of YOU by Caroline Kepnes. There are a few differences, but the feel, the obsession, and the stalking are right on par with it. The only differences really are that this is a young adult book (the characters are high schoolers), and the twist at the end was completely different than I expected! I liked it a lot! It’ll be cool to see where the author takes us in the next book.
If you’re looking for a book that will suck you in from beginning to end then this is a must read for you! It’s thrilling, a little dark, raw, riveting, and fast paced! I look forward to reading many more books by the author because it’s clear she has a knack for storytelling!
PS: If you didn’t know, the author who wrote this book also wrote Dial A For Aunties! I purchased both books and didn’t even realize the author was one in the same! Love how her books are so completely different from one another!

The Project by Courtney Summers is targeted at the young adult crowd however, I didn’t think this was a young adult thriller at all . This really turned me off because I specifically wanted a YA thriller and instead got one that felt like an adult suspense novel centered around a cult. Sigh… Truth be told, most book these days aren’t really working for me and I’ve picked up quite a few and dropped them so perhaps its my inability to focus and read these past few weeks that is leaving me wanting more in the books I AM reading. Nevertheless, this book is certainly NOT a thriller about young adults so if that’s what you want, find something else.
All that being said, this book isn’t terrible, and I did like it despite my frustrations. It’s really interesting to read about cults and see how the powerplay works and the author did a nice job at bringing those creepy vibes and really making her readers think. I do wish there was more resolution when it comes to Lo’s sister, but the book DOES work how it’s written. So, if you’re looking for something different, something that brings on the suspense and mystery then I recommend giving this one a try. Just be aware if you’re looking for something targeted towards the younger crowed this won’t be that book. ...more

TEN by Gretchen McNeil is a young adult murder mystery. Normally I love this genre, but this book just didn’t do it for me. There were too many times that the characters had me rolling my eyes that I contemplated not finishing it. However, I trudged on because the book was fast paced. Ultimately though, I just couldn’t find many things that I enjoyed about it. You can see my specific likes and dislikes below.

After reading the blurb for this one I thought it would be the perfect read for the Halloween season. After all, doesn’t the blurb scream TEEN SLASHER novel? To me, it did. Unfortunately, this is very far from the truth and this book was much milder than I anticipated.
First and foremost, I enjoy young adult books, especially thrillers. If I find a new one that sounds good the probability of me buying it is high. I may not read them right away (or all the time), but they ARE among my favorite types of books. So, when I saw this one at Target and realized it was only $7.99, I thought OKAY this is a steal, and the book sounds fantastic. It’s a little on the short side (slightly under 200 pages) but that doesn’t mean it can’t give some good scares. Boy was I wrong. There is NOTHING SCARY about this book. It’s much more of a psychological drama with a FRIGHT NIGHT setting (and it’s not even SET there the whole book).

Young Adult | Mystery and Suspense
One of Us is Lying is a really good young adult mystery. I found myself enjoying it while reading and WANTING to read it when I wasn’t. To say I was eager to figure out “who-dun-it” would be an understatement. I felt like I was in a constant state of NEED to know. This my friends makes for a really intriguing and well written novel.
Now, while I immensely enjoyed the book for the most part, I do have to admit that some parts felt slow. Being a mystery/thriller/suspense book, one would imagine it would be fairly fast paced ESPECIALLY considering these kids were racing against the clock to figure out who killed Simon before their lives were more devastated than they already were. Unfortunately, the pace didn’t FIT with the storyline. I don’t necessarily mean it felt like this the whole book, but the middle certainly slowed down.
Now on to the twist. Was I expecting it? Not REALLY but I did have a sneaking suspicion. I think the twist was PERFECT and UNIQUE for the story especially for the targeted age group. Us seasoned mystery readers have seen IT ALL I think which takes away the shock, but for those who don’t read the genre a lot will certainly LOVE the twist.
All in all, this is a good, solid read and I’m excited to read the sequel which was just released.
