I won't be judging it from the PoV of someone who is taking the refugee's claim because there were many questions I wanted to ask, especially about their life before reaching Turkey.
Nonetheless, the idea is good, the story is decent, and the narration of the audiobook was done well.

I listened to the audiobook and all three perspectives had the same narrator. The story was interesting and admirable. The three timelines were linked well even though I suspected the plot twist early on. I don't think we needed it though.
The characters were okay, not annoying but not memorable. It was the audiobook picked randomly right after finishing The House of Eve. Frankly, I didn't know much about these kind of houses. I knew they existed but not the physical and emotional hardships the girls and women endured there. I'm really glad to see authors continuing to write about dark and unpopular parts of history.
The narrator however sounded too weird when trying to speak like someone is sad and it made me cringe. Nonetheless, it’s usually the type of audiobook I enjoy listening to. It didn't affect my overall experience but definitely removed any possibility of feeling much of a connection to those emotional moments....more

I liked Victoria, her relationship with her father was an interesting one. I have assumed he's "a bad guy" but I was misguided. Later on, I wished she had more time with him alone.

I wish I saw the comparison with Station ElevenStation Eleven before because then, I definitely wouldn't have listened to the audiobook.
I highly enjoyed the writing in Station Eleven. It was beautiful and gripping. There were also lots of part/present events. I personally wouldn't recommend it as an audiobook.
Migrations might have been a mesmerizing read for some. Sadly, I was bored most of the time. I also couldn't feel empathetic to Franny. She was a heck of an unreliable narrator. This novel is definitely not suitable for an audiobook unless you can stay focused all time. I can't. Past and present narrations if not done well, also confuse me because I tend to miss sometimes the clue of the switch in the perspective.
You might say but if these all were your "personal" issue, why didn't you give the book three stars? Because I was simply not enjoying listening the audio. It felt more like a chore. Additionally, several questions weren't answered. How is the world surviving? Seems like law & order are still in place. How is the world coping (besides some vague notions)? The book failed to cover some important points because saying hey GLOBAL WARMING HAPPENED! isn't enough.
Anyhow, seems like opinions are divided here and while I can't say not recommended, I definitely would tell you to skip the audio. You see, I listen to audiobooks often. The narrator wasn't bad and her voice was part of the monotone atmosphere of the book. I guess that's what made it worse too. The narrator wasn't engaging in her voice, she didn't make me want to listen. Her voice was a calm sound in the background more than anything else....more

That's how the book starts. It's difficult to stop reading because you have to know what happens next. I am usually not the biggest fan of flashbacks. Nonetheless, Sierra didn't overdo it. She provided the necessary chapters to sketch the background of the main character.
At a later stage, while reading the book, I noticed that I didn't know the name of the main character. Unless I missed it, we weren't given a name. It fits the book just fine. Her emotions are raw and she keeps you glued to her story.
Something else I liked was the ending. There wasn't this mindblowing twist that you couldn't have guessed because it's absurd. There were no shocking reveals. The book builds on what it has delivered and it was refreshing.
Overall, I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to my friends. It's an addicting, refreshing, and well-written thriller. I will certainly keep an eye out for Sierra's future books....more

You know when a novel becomes famous, when everyone in the book community has read it but you haven't yet, you challenge yourself sometimes not to read it. Maybe you don't want to be disappointed. Maybe you don't think you will like it. Or maybe for some other reason. So years pass by and you still see the title around often enough. But eventually, we bookworms will cave.
After loving Daisy Jones & The Six, I knew that I will be reading this book sooner or later. I finally listened to the audiobook and I'm glad I did. I had no reason to doubt the hype. It doesn't mean that I loved it but it was a decent enough read. I enjoyed the narration (I mean if Julia Whelan is involved, there's nothing to worry about).
It was an interesting read for sure but it lacked depth. It had so much glamour, the writing format was also well done, but I honestly didn't care whatsoever about the characters. I wasn't emotionally invested in the story. For example, Monique's personal story could've been stronger and frankly, more interesting. I also didn't feel the strong bond between Evelyn and Monique that I was promised in the blurb. The ending was also controversial for me and I think I would've rounded it up for 4 stars if it wasn't for that particular event.
Overall, I understand why this book was successful and I look forward to watching the movie. Some aspects of the book could've been done better. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. After all, when a book becomes so popular, it's very difficult to meet the expectations. Yet, this book didn't fail to do so, so at least there's that!...more

Thanks to quickI randomly picked up the audiobook because it had no holds on Libby. The cover looked familiar but I didn’t know much about this book. I learned a lot through it about natives in the US and especially in Michigan as well as the local tribes and their customs and beliefs. The portrayal of the the discrimination against these communities (and especially women) was well portrayed.
However, the first half of the book had lots of info dump. The second part got better but I had the feeling that the author was trying to handle too many issues all at once and all in the second half. A lot of things were repeated such as Daunis’ mother character (very one dimensional, we only got to see more of her later on and it wasn’t for many pages), our main character scientific approach and logic (seriously too many times), the “golden boy” hype, not trusting this Jamie or maybee trusting him? I can go on and on. the mystery part also felt overdone.
I might write more later but in sum, no regrets reading this book, there is room for improvement but nonetheless, solid debut that tackles some important topics....more
