This book makes me want to reread the book Fangirl all over again. I’m a HUGE lover of Fangirl, I’ve read it three times, and Cath is easily one of my most relatable characters of all time. With that being said, I do feel like this reads better as a novel, because you really get more into Caths head with her in her thoughts. But I would highly recommend this manga if you are already familiar with the story of Fangirl. I don’t think I’d recommend this if you haven’t read the book Fangirl yet. But damn I loved it. Also I didn’t think Caths Dad would be so young and attractive??? The fuck is that about? Haha. They also drew Levi in a really attractive golden boy way that I wasn’t expecting?? But I love it..? Can’t wait to read the next volume of this!

This thriller was intense, this is my first book from this author and I'm definitely interested in reading more books from her! This thriller follows a doctor who's son has been diagnosed with cancer, her and her husband (who is a detective) can't afford the treatment for him, so she begins to steal oxy from the hospital to sell on the streets.
This book has major Breaking Bad vibes, in the sense that it follows a parent who will do absolutely anything to provide for their family who is battling cancer and so they turn to selling drugs to do so. I thought this book was action-packed from beginning to end, it was very intense and full of twists. This was a bit out of my comfort zone too because apparently this is a 'medical' thriller because we are following a doctor, but I enjoyed this book so much! I felt so much for this family and I like that we followed from the doctor's POV as well as the detective's POV. Because she is married to a detective it added the extra suspense of if she were to get caught, her own husband would be the one to take her down (much like Breaking Bad with Walt's brother in law working in the DEA).
It was surprising, it was different, and I really enjoyed it! ...more

I miss Obama so much, he's so well-spoken and he has such a way with words, I listened to the audiobook which is definitely the way to go for this book. This is one of the only political books I have ever read, but it was absolutely captivating to hear about all the experiences he went through as President and all the tough decisions he had to make. I love that throughout it he sprinkles in his stories of his family and I loved hearing about Michelle and the girls, their family is the cutest.
It brought tears to my eyes reliving him being the first Black man elected President of the United States, it was so beautiful to hear about it from his POV. I was in 8th grade when Obama got elected President and I really wish I would have understood the significance of that then. I never got super involved in politics until I was in college, but wow what a historical moment in time.
Obama is just so down to Earth and so cool. He's so jarringly different from the President we currently have (Trump) that it's kind of heart breaking to think how much things have changed in the last four years. I miss Obama's laid back attitude and positivity so much. This book really inspired me so much, just the way he talks is so motivating and empowering.
Obama is a reminder to me and to everyone that your dreams can be achieved, and he really is a symbol of hope for this country. I can't wait to read the second book whenever it eventually comes out.
That's all I have to say, I'm just going to leave you with this quote that really moved me and gave me so much hope for America:
“I don’t know. What I can say for certain is that I’m not yet ready to abandon the possibility of America—not just for the sake of future generations of Americans but for all of humankind. For I’m convinced that the pandemic we’re currently living through is both a manifestation of and a mere interruption in the relentless march toward an interconnected world, one in which peoples and cultures can’t help but collide. In that world—of global supply chains, instantaneous capital transfers, social media, transnational terrorist networks, climate change, mass migration, and ever-increasing complexity—we will learn to live together, cooperate with one another, and recognize the dignity of others, or we will perish. And so the world watches America—the only great power in history made up of people from every corner of the planet, comprising every race and faith and cultural practice—to see if our experiment in democracy can work. To see if we can do what no other nation has ever done. To see if we can actually live up to the meaning of our creed.”

This is unlike anything I’ve ever read before and it’s pretty bizarre and strange and I don’t think I’d necessarily recommend this to everyone... but I was very highly entertained by this. And my mind was blown many times. I know this book will probably get a lot of comparison to Verity, but this book is nothing like Verity, it’s a completely different monster. This is Colleen’s first paranormal romance, and I didn’t realize just how paranormal and creepy this book would get - I was kind of obsessed with it ...more

SO F*CKING CUTE. This is exactly what it claims to be, The Unhoneymooners meets The Hating Game. A hate to love romance where they are both up for the same promotion (much like The Hating Game) and they are forced to go on a company cruise together (which feels similar to the honeymoon situation in Unhoneymooners). Henley and Graeme have the best banter, the best chemistry, I was literally giddy the entire time I was reading this and smiling like an idiot. Graeme is my ideal male love interest to read about, he’s smart and funny and really soft on the inside, but he’s quick with his snarky remarks and their relationship is just so damn cute.
This book was so fun, I loved everything about the competitive nature of them both trying to get this job, and I also loved the underlying messages about how women always have to work ten times harder than men for the same benefits and it’s exhausting and unfair.
The only reason I knocked off a half star is because I didn’t LOVE the ending the way I loved the rest of the book - I thought the ending focused a little too much on their jobs and not on the romance, I would’ve like more romance at the end, but despite that one complaint, this is definitely one of my new favorite romance novels I’ve read this year. I literally SHIPPED it so hard, see what I did there? ...more

I really love Matthew McConnaughey as a human and as an actor so I was really excited to hear he wrote a book! I listened to the audiobook and his narration is absolutely fantastic, if you decide to read this book you HAVE to go with the audiobook, his voice is amazing and his narration was so fun I was smiling like an idiot most of the time reading this.
Only reason I knocked off a star is because I wasn’t a huge fan of the self-help parts of this book, I was more interested in hearing his interesting life stories and learning more about his roles and his family and I could’ve done without the strange generic bumper sticker quotes haha.
But I love this! If you are a fan of his I’d definitely recommend checking this one out! I loved hearing more behind the scenes things about his career. ...more

It was a really beautiful thoughtful coming of age story about a boy named Jake and his Uncle Calvin, their relationship is really the center of this novel. I thought it would be a little more spooky, but there are definitely a few good spooky moments in this book! I had no idea this is the same author as The Troop just writing under a different pen name! That’s fascinating!
I really love the thoughtful quotes about childhood fears vs adult fears and how our fears change as we get older, like this one here: “Before long your fears become adult ones: crushing debts and responsibilities, sick parents and sick kids, the possibility of dying unremembered or unloved. Fears of not being the person you were so certain you’d grow up to be.”...more

This book very much parallels what we are experiencing right now; a virus that is taking over the world, doctors and scientists are scrambling to understand it and get a vaccine, hospitals are reaching maximum capacity, and politicians try and act like they know more than the scientists. It’s all very familiar, which made it feel more real and scary. This book is very well-researched, and it’s clear in the writing how much time the author put into crafting this story.
I don’t read sci-fi often, and I think the main reason for that is because a lot of the science goes way over my head. This book was no exception. I felt like a lot of the science was over-explained in some parts to the point where I just got bored. I also never really cared about any of the characters, at least not the way I think I was intended to.
But this book was addicting, I listened to the audiobook and I finished it in two days because I had to know how it ended and that ending was absolutely chilling. Even though this isn’t my go-to genre I still found it to be really interestingly and compelling. ...more

This book screams 'I Did Something Bad' by Taylor Swift, I've never read a book that gives off the same exact vibes of that song until I read this book. The writing is absolutely captivating and I loved the characters too.
I think it's best to go into this book knowing little to nothing, as I did but if you need to know more, here's a general description of what this book is about: we follow a woman named Scarlett, who is an English professor at a college, and she's also a serial killer. She tracks down bad men who have done awful things and makes them pay. Meanwhile, we also follow Carly who is a freshman at the same college and she's slowly developing feelings for her roommate Allison. There was such a good plot twist halfway through the book that shocked me so much, I didn't see it coming at all. To make this book even better, there are many queer characters in this book as well, and I absolutely love seeing that representation in this genre.
I absolutely loved Scarlett and Carly as characters, and I just had the best time reading this book. I've seen some people comparing this book to the show Killing Eve, which I can definitely see. I don't know if this would be considered dark academia or not but it all takes place on a college campus and has the best dark/sinister vibes, so I would say yes? I really loved this one, even more than I expected to. Scarlett is the baddest bitch and I LOVED reading about her.
Btw, I pictured Katie Siegel from Haunting of Hill House as Scarlett while I was reading this and that made my experience a thousand times better. [image] [image]...more

Jackson, and I’m super impressed. Lately I’ve been avoiding all things YA, but I’ve been recommended this book so many times I finally decided to listen to the audiobook, and I’m so glad I did. This story is heartbreaking and touching and so powerful. We follow this young girl named Claudia who’s best friend Monday goes missing, and she is trying to figure out why it seems like nobody cares.
I was really intrigued by the mystery of where Monday went, but I also just really adored their friendship in this book. I also had a friendship like this in high school where you’re just really close with one person and your friendship is all consuming and without them you feel lost and like you lost a part of yourself too, so this hit really close to home in that aspect of it. This story is getting a lot of criticism because of the amount of time the author spends developing this characters in flashbacks as opposed to building the mystery, but I thought the flashbacks were great and only made me care so much more about the characters. I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style she did with the chapters going: ‘before, after, before the before,” because it made it a little confusing at times but since I was listening to it on audio it didn’t bother me as much as it probably would have if I read it physically.
The ending was shocking and I know I probably should’ve seen it coming but I didn’t, and I was nearly crying listening to the audiobook while I was driving. I can’t wait to check out more books from this author!...more

-There is some great social commentary in this book about what it’s like to live on an Indian reservation, and I feel like I learned so much, especially with the authors note at the end. It’s tragic that most times federal authorities refuse to prosecute murders, assaults, and sex crimes: over 35% of crimes are declined and over a quarter of those cases are sexual assaults against women and children -Very eye opening, reminded me of the movie Wind River in that way -I don’t typically read stories that revolve heavily around drugs, so this was a bit out of my comfort zone because of that -This is categorized as a mystery/thriller, but I wouldn’t really consider this a mystery at all because I feel like it’s pretty predictable, but it definitely is a thriller because it’s action packed from beginning to end -Interesting characters who I really cared for and the pacing of this book was great, there was never a dull moment...more
