This last book was amazing. Best thing about this series was the world building and setting. Even though I really enjoyed the book overall, I didn't like the romance. (view spoiler)[ Alek and Deryn worked perfectly as friends and I couldn't really see them in a relationship. They were cute but meh(hide spoiler)]. I liked the ending and I was worried about it because last trilogy I read from Westerfeld ended in a shitty way.
I really really really liked the Leviathan trilogy, it was my first try with the steampunk genre and now I'm intrigued to read and know more about it....more

Finally I finished this gigantic thing. It wasn't a total waste of time but I'm really sad because a) this was the first book I won in a giveaway and b) the plot sounded interesting. I'm sorry to be probably the first to write a negative review but I didn't like it.
First thing: I didn't enjoy the writing style. There were a lot of repetitions and it wasn't really my cup of tea. A lot of the characters were one-dimensional, really flat and without depth. The whole 11-years-old-protagonist thing didn't really work for me. She was definitely too young to do a lot of the things that she did, at that age you don't even have a formed personality.
Another thing I didn't like was that the magic in this book isn't explained at all. There's a glossary at the end but there's nothing that I can read about of the magic works in this world, like I don't know if they use some spells or anything because they apparently have to "believe you can fly" to do it (??????). It doesn't make sense to me. There's no world building but a lot of information dumps about characters and titles.
The ending was a big "meh" for me, for a 600+ pages book I was expeting a lot more....more
Ok, I'm going to try something different with this review: I'm going to actually analize some things that happened, with quotes and stuff, to explain Ok, I'm going to try something different with this review: I'm going to actually analize some things that happened, with quotes and stuff, to explain my point better. I didn't like Adam since the beginning, I don't know why. I felt like something was wrong about him.
So Adam is really attached to his little brother James (who is a cute little thing ♥) but he still treats him like shit. It's like page 3 and James is calling Adam Addie and he tells him to stop.
And hey, stop calling me Addie-you know how much I hate that-" "Yeah, and I still don't know why. [...] Mom always used to call you Addie-" "Well Mom's dead, isn't she?" My voice has gone hard.
WELL, PIPE THE FUCK DOWN Addie, you're talking to your little brother. You don't have to prove us that you're a strong and invincible man by doing that. Poor James. So, at page 3 I was already hating him. And then there's that other little thing, when they're out and Juliette gets practically kidnapped and Adam is all like "oh my god we have to save her, she's my bae, I'm going to kill Warner with my bare hands". And then he forgets about her until the very last chapter. Like WHAT THE HELL. I understand that family comes first but he acted like a complete dumbass kid.
"So what are we going to do about Juliette? Kenji asks [...] "I'm already worried we waited this long to go after her." I feel myself pale. I don't know how to tell him I had no immediate plans to go back out there.
*clap clap* Well done ADDIE. In book 2 he's all like "I'm going to fix this, we're going to be together again, I'm going to find a way" but in reality, when shit happens, he doesn't want to move a finger. *clap clap again* So I'm still unsure how to rate this, because the character is an asshole but the novella is still good, I'm going to stick with the 3 stars and think about it....more

When I heard about it I was so exited to read it, I love shopping at Ikea and the idea of an horror story set in an Ikea kind of store was just da best.
I liked this book, especially the first half. I was kind of scared at the beginning but after chapter 11/12 I realized I wasn't really into the story. I didn't connect with the main character Amy or any of the other so I wasn't really nervous for them. The last chapter and the epilogue were as good as the first chapters so I think something went wrong in the middle of the book, the author tried to mix a lot of potentially scary things and it didn't work out as expected.
As I said before I didn't feel connected with any of the characters but I still enjoyed my reading experience, mostly because of the writing. The setting and the design of this book are so well done that it was a pleasure to just flip the pages.
Despite everything I recommend Horrorstor. I had some problems with the characters but at the same time it was an amazing and original story, perfect for october and Halloween time.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel! It follows a girl named Anda who decides to join an online game after a person comes to her school to recruit girls for her guild. In this game there are things like gold farmers (they're selling avatars or items for money) and Anda meets one of them when she's on a quest to kill them with her friend Sarge. When she start talking to him he told her that he's just a poor guy from China who does that for 16 hours a day and she decides to help him.
This wasn't just a great piece of art even though the artwork was definitely a 5-stars rating for me. I wish the economic aspect of the story was explained better and the ending felt kind of rushed. A part from that the characters and the story were amazing, and you can hear loud and clear the other message: that girls can be great gamers too, sometimes even better that boys. I would totally recommend In Real Life to everyone, I had some problems with it but I think that someone who is more into online gaming than me would absolutely love it.
This book was kindly sent to me by the publisher for review, thanks a lot First Second, but this doesn't change my opinion in any way....more
