I wanted to love this book so bad because of the hype surrounding the Grishaverse but it wasn't for me. The premise of the story sounded good enough going in, and I do think the world Leigh Bardugo has built is interesting. However, I don't think YA is the age group for this particular story.
Every scene where powers were being used felt incredibly cheesy and lacking description. Alina felt like your typical YA protagonist from the 2010's era and the Darkling had so much potential that what we got until the point I read was really disappointing. Everything about the "world building" in this book was giving me Adult vibes and the YA writing was killing it for me. ...more
