When I finished this memoir, I was at a loss for words. You could sense the full range of her emotions in your heart because of the way she written some moments. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is the most exquisite book I've read this year.
As she opens up to us, Farah—a Muslim immigrant from Pakistan—reveals the intricacies of her troubled family, the close relationship she has with her siblings, and the steadfast support of her best friend. She starts her writing journey, investigates her beliefs, and works through the conflict between her two identities and cultural expectations.
Farah reveals the most trying times in her life and is incredibly honest about her experiences. In the process of determining what kind of life she wants, we learn about her struggles with complex grief, cultural expectations, and generational cycles and loss. I am grateful that she shared her story with us.
I really enjoyed reading this, and I will definitely check out more of her future works!...more

Her life becomes even more difficult when an abrupt chain of terrible events leaves her jobless and homeless. She's lucky to have a sparkling knight living next door! Her neighbor Luke is a solitary man who lives in a cozy mobile home with his beloved dog, Betty. With little other options, Jenny accepts Luke's invitation to go on a cross-country journey. A voyage of self-discovery, adventure, and relationships of all kinds are what come next.
This was such a great story. Indeed, there were moments of laughter and smiles, as well as very obvious crying moments. Jenny in particular had a great sense of humor and handled some really bad situations with it. I understood her struggles and the difficulties she faced. I like how the boy was being raised by a single mother. The relationship has a natural feel to it, complete with a certain amount of distance, inside jokes, misguided teenage angst, and, deep down, true love. Jenny and Charlie had such a great relationship, and it was fun to witness the three of them develop closer as they traveled to interesting places together.
The narration was excellent, and the plot was charming. I could actually picture the narrative in my head because of the way she presented it. Additionally, the narrator made Jenny's persona incredibly entertaining as she handled each absurd situation....more

I'm happy he overcame everything and developed into the person he is now.
I started to think a lot about how our experiences shape us and even impede our personal development. I felt like I was reliving a lot of the things the author talked about experiencing since they were so real to me.
Although I liked the book, I didn't think the audiobook was that good. I occasionally found it difficult to interact with the book while I was listening....more

With her lovely boyfriend, Nick Santiago, a private investigator, Riley Thorn is getting used to her new life and enjoying his company. However, the calm is short-lived as Griffin abruptly knocks on her door and asks for assistance. When a dead body proves that Griffin is truly the target of someone, the plot thickens. Santiago Investigations is out and running, with a suspect list as large as Griffin's ego. This creates a fantastic mix of turmoil and humor as Riley and Nick have to balance interrogating suspects while their elderly roommates handle surveillance.
I couldn't have been happier to see Riley and the group again. The series' characters are amusing and cleverly designed. I adore Riley and Nick's relationship. They both balance each other perfectly. And I will always find it entertaining to see Nick and Gabe's little battles! However, I must admit that I find the egocentric behavior of the older neighbors to be annoying.
This was a wonderful fun read, and if you're in the mood for a quirky romantic comedy, you should check this book and the whole series, if you haven't yet!...more

It starts off really well, but after a number of unbelievable twists and turns, it lost all direction. This plot just kept going in circles without any resolution.
The story has a few really adorable moments, however the really important issues were dismissed by the author. When it seemed like the author was taking you into a really significant story about alcoholism and other substance misuse, only to retract it and make it seem insignificant, that's when things started to go wrong for me. The book just grew worse, and neither breakup made sense.
I found the writing style to be a little strange, and I found the characters to be a little too juvenile and undeveloped, which was kind of bothersome....more

It's undoubtedly an easy and fun read! I really like the trivia part of the book; it gave the narrative a lovely playful touch. I also loved the special addition of each chapter beginning with a trivia question which relates to a scene that will come up later in a chapter. What a fantastic concept!
I liked how each chapter was told from a different character's point of view. It definitely helped with the development of an engaging narrative about the Quiz team members and showed their development as individuals and how they, initially connected only by trivia thing, evolved into each other's most important allies.
I listened to the audiobook version of this story and I really enjoy it. I think the narrator did amazing job bringing this story to live. I would absolutely listen to another book narrated by her.
Recommend for everyone looking for unique, cozy read!...more
