I was really excited to have a badass female assassin who had supposedly trained her whole life for this mission. But she didn't follow through on the mission because the man she was sent to kill was her fated mate. Which I mean - totally understandable, but at the same time, she doesn't know him at all and decides that she is going to let her entire kingdom die just so she can have true love. Felt like a let down that her mission went sideways so fast. I'm a visual reader and found that the world building wasn't for me - I was confused on some of the story/plot lines as well.
It's really rare for me to give lower ratings, but I was really looking forward to this book, and it felt a little rushed and underdeveloped to me.
I also want to point out (because I know if can be maybe triggering for those of us who were raised this way) that this book has some purity culture to it. MMC was insinuated to be a flirt, but he wouldn't sleep with the pure FMC until they got married, etc....more
Exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't put it down!
Five of the most dangerous liars have to learn to work together to commit an assassination. You Exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't put it down!
Five of the most dangerous liars have to learn to work together to commit an assassination. You get multiple different first-person POVs, and the characters were easy to keep separate because they each had their own unique personalities and wants/outcomes from the mission.
My favorite character was Sora, the poison maiden. I found her character to be so unique and totally badass! She was one of 18 girls who were sold to a count and put through an illegal poison school where they were slowly dosed with poisons so they'd become immune. She was a total badass.
You also had so many good tropes - grumpy/sunshine, protective, good banter, tending to wounds, one bedroom etc.
Uncovering the lies and trying to figure out who would betray who was so much fun. In the end, my theory was wrong, but the twist was omg so much fun! I can't wait for book 2!...more

In the first 25%, I thought it couldn't get better. But then, as the chapters kept going, I was so sucked in. My face hurt from grinning and might have thrown my phone once or twice while reading because of a certain a-hole. ...more

If you're looking for a fun weekend romance to read with dark fantasy circus romance vibes, then this would be perfect. I think if you go in expecting a mind-blowing plot, you'll be disappointed. This was a stand a lone book, so everything is happening quickly, but at the same time, not much happens... if that makes sense, lol.
I genuinely finished the book and thought that it had no real plot other than the romance. It's also in 3rd person, so it was a bit difficult at times for me to feel really connected to the characters.
But overall, the romance was sweet, and it had several of my favorite tropes....more
