I tried to major in the Library Media Specialist program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a major in the program because I was disabled and I want to give a giant shout out to Ann Zarrinia and Eileen Shroeder who ran the department together and the head librarian of the Palmyra Public Library whose name I have forgotten during 2010 which refused to let me complete my internship for not allowing me to complete my major. There’s a very interesting author’s note in the book that mentions librarians helping the mentally disabled and look at how they helped me!
There’s a lot of trauma in the book and struggles that the librarians go through as well, so please be sure to read the trigger warnings for this book. One of the things that bothered me was that one of the characters suffered from panic attacks like I do yet somehow finding a love interest seems to have helped her and I can tell you that is very unrealistic.
I love the two women who run the underground library and how resilient they are and I love most of the other characters as well. I love the world building and how much research the author does include in the book as well.
So overall, I have very mixed emotions about this book....more

It turns out that both of them are going to Paris to play music. I really loved the two things about this book. First of all, they’re traveling to Paris on the same ocean liner and one of them does happen to be named Jack, so of course it reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time: Titanic!! The part of the book that takes place in Paris reminds me of another of my favorite movies: Midnight in Paris because Eliza becomes friends with Earnest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda just like Owen Wilson’s character does in the film! I wish that the part of the book that takes place in Paris was longer. The romance between Eliza and Jack is wonderful because it’s an interracial relationship that might end happily ever after or not and it keeps you guessing the entire time. They also care deeply for one another and they have a very passionate relationship together with one another. This book also happened to be my first Harlequin and it was absolutely wonderful and I definitely plan on reading more of them....more

I loved all five of the children even though they were very naughty and they got into such high jinks yet somehow they always managed to solve their mistakes and their problems. However, my favorite character is the Psammead who was very sarcastic and always granted the wishes of the children in unexpected ways! However, one thing that I hated about the Psammead is that he didn't grant the wish of women's suffrage. I also did not enjoy the racism in the book either but I understand that it was common at the time that the story was written in. However, I did enjoy the rest of the novel which is why it got such a high rating....more

This book is the second book in the Sparks and Bainbridge Mystery series and it was just exactly what the doctor ordered. This time, Gwen and Iris are asked by the Royal British Household to do a background check on Prince Phillip as a suitor for the hand of Princess Elizabeth and they stumble on a murder in the process that they must solve. I won't go into the plot as I'm sure most of us know that the couple ended up happily ever after. I enjoyed learning more about the history of England as I read. I enjoyed how the theater played a role in the plot. I enjoyed learning more about the background of the Royal couple. I enjoyed the dialogue and the fact that there is a terrier in the book which did in fact remind me of Nick and Nora Charles (whom I happen to be named after) as the blurb on the book mentioned. What I enjoyed the most was the friendship between our two heroines and because I enjoyed how independent women rule the world as Queen Beyonce proudly declares....more
First of all, I want to thank my friend Michelle for giving me an uncorrected proof of this wonderful and amazing book! I loved everything about this First of all, I want to thank my friend Michelle for giving me an uncorrected proof of this wonderful and amazing book! I loved everything about this book and I connected to this book so much on so many levels. I felt connected to all of the characters in the book in their similar and unique ways. There are three characters who I felt the most connected to. Like the main character, Drewsmina, when I was younger I was conceited and vain but as I grew older I was able to find empathy and compassion for those around me. Like Ian, the love interest, I really don't enjoy surprises but I am slowly getting used to them and I also enjoy going on walks when I am feeling stressed out. Like Imogene, one of Ian's twin nieces who Drewsmina is helping in order to prepare them for their London Season, I love horses and walking for tons of miles and cats and being an independent woman. There's also an adorable plus size cat who I absolutely loved too. I enjoyed the romance in the book and how the characters grew to love one another. I enjoyed the time period because the Regency era is one of my favorite eras. I also enjoyed learning more about the Luddite riots and how Ian was involved in trying to bring peace to both sides. I enjoyed the Author's Note at the end of the book. However, one thing that I did not enjoy were how many grammatical and spelling errors that there were in the book. But that is to be expected in an uncorrected proof. ...more
