Rose's life is turned upside down when an old friend shows up at the dance. Then her ragtag group of friends must rush to her rescue learning about who and what she is along the way.
Sometimes you fall in love with a mythos, and sometimes the thing you fell in love with becomes the defining thing for that world. Such is the case with me. Not a fan of Bram Stokers it took until I read the gothic horror novel Tale of the Vampire Bride by Rhiannon Frater before I even cared about the Dracula myth, or learned anything about it. TotVB is my defining book on the Dracula myth. I'm a zombie girl, not a vampire girl. I don't want to and cannot compare FORBIDDEN with TotVB because they are two very different works. FORBIDDEN is not a horror novel. It's a Young Adult Paranormal Romance. And read as such it is an excellent novel. The story is gripping, it's hard to put down, it has suspense and romance and pretty much all of the criteria I want from a YAPNR.
The characters are kick butt, and it was great that Gabriel is not an Alpha Male. He's actually a little emo. Which was sweet and refreshing. Rose is the perfect heroine. The only thing I can say about the characters is that they are a bit underdeveloped. Rosaline's time with Vlad is rushed and glazed over. I think I would have liked to see more of their dynamic to see why she stayed for so long, and to be able to feel why he was terrifying. Of course, to explain why I wanted the gore of that relationship to be shown you have to realize that I am first and foremost a horror fan, so this isn't really the fault of the author. I also think that the characters were left a bit underdeveloped because it is the first in the trilogy. If they are fully formed in this work then they have no room to grow in the next work.
Rose's friends William, Sadie and Nicolae are a great cast of B characters they round out the story nicely and give us some comedic relief. Nicolae is not what he seems, but I am guessing if you pick up the book you will figure out what he is before the big reveal in the book. The real mystery is what Gabriel is? And we don't know the full answer to that one by the end of the book. So be warned CLIFFHANGER.
All in all Forbidden was a great escape, a fast read, and fulfilling. I will definitely be looking to pick up the next book very soon. ...more

Death Dealer was a cool read it really was. The world that Ashley built was amazing. I loved it. The heroine was kick butt, but flawed. She made mistakes, and had a great sense of humor all things that I love. The hero of the story Deacon was all part equal to Mia, he didn't over shadow her at all even though he is a higher rank that her.
The story was fun, and fast paced. It was a great quick read that kept me entertained. However, I think that because it was a novella instead of a full length novel the romance aspect out weighed the action side of the story. And I like for those to be balanced in these sorts of books. Which needless to say, means this book will appeal to a lot of readers. A lot! Because the romance is smoking hot, I just wanted a bit more action. It seemed like we were going strong, and then BOOM romance took over. Again, this is me personally. However, that being said, I will continue on with the series because it was such a fun read. ...more

Broken Stone is my favorite out of the series. I loved every single minute I spent reading it. Emariya's journey has been nothing but ups and downs since we first met her. She is such a strong character, she face adversity head on. Even when she thinks all is lost she still continues to go on. I love that! Kelly is able to weave an epic fantasy tale that lures me in and keeps me hooked. She did it not just with one but three books. Honestly, if she wanted to keep going and tell the rest of Riya's and Torain's tale I wouldn't say no to reading it. Oh, and can I have a book about Torin too, while your at it Kelly? :D I'm kidding. The back drop of the book is epic, each land that Riya visits is beautifully detailed but doesn't bore the reader. Kelly doesn't tell us about how many threads the rug has, she instead shows us how beautiful the rug is and moves on! The action sequences are to die for, so riveting I was literally holding my breath throughout the book. Torain is back! In the second book it almost felt like he had lost a little bit of his edge, but the darkly beautiful prince that I fell in love with was here. Writing an alpha type male meant for younger audiences can be hard, well at least for authors that try to do it responsibly, and Kelly definitely does that. He's in charge, but he also knows how to choose his battles and listen. He's an equal to Riya and that truly shows in this book. The ending was truly satisfying in that it felt complete. Does that mean that I won't wish, and hope for more. Obviously I do, but I am ok with the way things ended. Broken Stone, and the Soul of Stones trilogy are books that will stay with me for a while. Well, anyway, Sam feels compelled to stop Victoria's evil, yes sir-e, she feel compelled to stop it by throwing a pencil right through Victoria's eye ball. Oh, and Sam is freakishly good at fighting. Needless to say, Sam's life is no longer on the get out of "jail" track. After seeing a judge she is sentenced to stay in a level 10 home. The worst. No need to worry, Sam is kidnapped by a young man named G junior. When G takes her to his home her world is turned upside down and she discovers that she isn't a superhero at all, just a Reaper.
I read this book twice this week. Let that sink in. Most of us who know how reviewing books goes knows that reading a book twice is not something a lot of us have time for. I just want to break down what I found so awesome about this book. Samantha Cain: she's sassy, strong, vulnerable and an all around fun character. The story is different. It really is. Books about Reapers seem to be a dime a dozen now days. What makes this one different. Well the Reapers don't hang with Angels, or even the good guys. Nope, same kicks it with Demons, Sins, Deadly Sins and oh, a really hot guy named Lucifer Junior. And the writer even manages to make the reader feel compassion for these people. The writing and editing are amazing. Seriously, I know some of you are big on good editing and this one definitely comes up to snuff. The ending was a horrible cliff hanger, like horrible the worst I have ever read, but I loved it. I want the second book now. What I wasn't as sold on. The characters names, especially G junior. Lucifer Junior I could live with because everyone called him LJ. Did the not normal names distract from the story? Yes and no. The first time I read G's name I kind of flinched, but once I got more into the story it didn't faze me at all. I think the name kind of fits him. :D Overall an excellent read that needs to be added and bumped on reading lists all around. **I was given a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of it. Alessa’s life has recently been turned upside down with the recent death of her parents. She is understandably in a funk. Going off to college for a fresh start she joins a sorority and becomes friends with another freshman, Janie. Her life is that of a typical college student. Study, hangout, eating gross cafeteria food. Yet, it’s not typical. Her college is extremely paranoid, with cameras everywhere. She has horrible nightmares, the transport her to a barren prison where her feelings of hopelessness cross over and increase. And then there is the ghost. His presence is freaky….but also brings out other emotions in Alessa, sadness, terror, and….longing. She quickly becomes obsessed with finding out everything about the ghost and making contact with him. She learns his name is Isaac and that he dies tragically. She’ll stop at nothing to save him from his tragic fate, even if that means messing things up in her world.
Stitch is a solid book. It’s actually quite incredible. It manages to span multiple genres and cross over into them with flawless ease. It’s like reading four books at once, only there is no confusion. I was impressed how Samantha was able to weave these little hints throughout the plot without ever giving the big reveal away. I was genuinely surprised by the way things turned out.
The writing in the novel was flawless. I don’t think I found a single error in the text. Which is really impressive. Not only was it technically perfect but Samantha has a writing style that grips the reader and won’t let go. It’s very straight forward with no fancy schmancy words to distract the reader, but even though it’s not poetic doesn’t mean that it’s not strong and engaging. Also, thank you, for not losing me with a bunch of science terms (made up or real that stuff still curdles my brain cells)! It’s definitely a sci-fi book that a laymen can read and enjoy.
I really like Alessa, even though she just lost her parents she’s not overly mopey. She’s sort of just right depressed. Not that there is anything wrong with being depressed, but fighting my own battles with the disease doesn’t mean that I want to read a book where the MC spends the entire 200+ pages in a snuggie eating a pint of Cherry Garcia. She’s active, she finds hope in trying to connect with and ultimately save the ghost boy, Isaac. He gives her a reason to live. Maybe a bit of an unhealthy relationship, but I think I have read worse in YA.
The big elephant in the room is how in the heck does this book cover the dystopia genre that the blurb promises. Well, that’s kind of the big reveal. Just trust me when it comes the book morphs from being a solid read to an excellent one. I only wish that it had come sooner in the book. At fifty percent I was dying to see how we get there. By eighty percent I was so in love with what was going on that I wanted to read, and read and read. By one hundred percent I had officially entered a good book hangover.
Overall this book is a great and entertaining read. I cannot wait for the next installment. I HAVE to know what happens next. I recommend this book to people who enjoy a good sci-fi book, a good YA, and a good dystopia. It is all three of those! Fans of Denise Grover Swank’s Here will really like this book! Something happens the last time she meets with Andrew and she never sees him again. Fast forward to Raven at 18. She's still a free spirit. Her and her sister have planned a summer getaway in Europe. But everything changes when her sisters friend Chauncey crashes. Chauncey is spoiled, and selfish. Awesomesauce is in this book! Olivia and Caleb have faced a number of problems in their time together but in this book a new “problem” shows it’s face. It’s Caleb’s old “mate” Celeste. Celeste enters Caleb and Olivia’s world and turns everything upside down. Olivia being her normal impulsive self, runs off to the Brethren setting into motion the trap that may make her Davin’s weapon forever. Jax and Gemma have their own hurdles to jump and a new baby. This book is a joy ride of action, love and blood. By far the most action packed of all three books Wenrick does not leave the reader disappointed. This is one of those “I read it in a day” books. I simply could not put it down. I had to know what was happening next. Christine Wenrick hooked me with the first two books of this series and she sold me on anything else she ever writes with this third book. It was simply covered with epicness. There were twists and turns that surprised me. Some of the twists were predictable, but Christine threw those at the reader to distract them from seeing the bigger reveals. It worked. And by predictable twists I mean Celeste. We know she is an evil hoochie from the second she enters the page. It’s no surprise that she is spending the whole book playing games with Caleb and Olivia. What is surprising is her attachment to Caleb. It’s simply evil and kind of gross. At several points in the book I wanted to slap my kindle she was that aggravating. The cast of characters in this series is definitely the highlight of the work. Christine infuses a lot of humor into them. Olivia is still sassy as ever and I was constantly chuckling at her sarcasm throughout the book. I think my favorite scene was when she encounters Kane again at the Oracle. She has such an easy, fun chemistry with her guardians that I love. “unbelievable,” I blinked back at him. “I didn’t think me like you really existed.” Kane splayed his arms out from his sides with an easy smile. “In the flesh, darlin’…in the flesh.” The sexy times in this book are as hot as ever, but there are fewer of them than in the previous works and I was totally ok with that. It felt natural when it happened and not like the author was forcing her characters to “get it on” as much as possible to sell books. Which, let’s be honest, there are a lot of books out there where the whole entire plot is sex. I need a bit more to a book to find it good. Obviously from my 5 star rating this book more than a “bit more” to it. The action was great. This book is bloody. I loved it. How can you have a vampire book without blood, and death? The answer is you can’t. This is not a horror novel so you won’t find the remorseless blood suckers taking center stage but there are a few in here. Olivia really finds her strength in this book. Even when she is being tortured she manages to kick butt. She also manages to keep hold on to her humanity through a tough situation. She would not have been able to do that without the love of her friends and family. Which was a great highlight for me. Jax, Gemma, Caleb and her guardians have really become her family. Which brings me to the ending of the book and an awesome little surprise is there waiting for the reader. Overall, the HEA was very satisfying. Oh, and check out the sneak peek at Christine’s next book. Eeep. Can’t wait! What a great ride this series has been. I can’t believe that it’s only been a few short months ago that I got to know these characters. They feel like they have been with me a lot longer than that....more

Kailey learns that sometimes not is every thing or everyone is who or what they seem to be on the surface. She learns that she is strong, and capable. She learns that her family is a lot bigger and more varied then she could have ever imagined. She learns she has special powers and that she is Karma. She joins the fight to bring balance back to her world and Renhala. Blunt honesty: Renhala was a tough book for me to get into. The world building is complex here guys and gals. It’s labeled Urban Fantasy but the complexity is like that of a regular old Epic Fantasy. Fantasy is not one of my favorite genres. I like it but I don’t love it. To be even more honest: Once I hit 30% I was hooked and in LOVE with this story. The characters were awesome, and interesting. There are two drool worthy guys, a kick butt heroine, a sage leader and lots and lots of comedic relief. Action, suspense and possibly even the kitchen are all thrown into the mix, making this story one amazing captivating story that I just could not leave alone. I kept waiting, pacing, hiding to read the next page, the next chapter. I stayed up until 1 am knowing full well I had to work in the morning. I lost sleep for these characters. The creatures in this book are creepy and creative. Three legged brown fury guys that stink like rotten eggs. Sprites, pixies, dragons all exist with their own special twist. My personal favorite are the Giant fury bunnies. They are gruesome and remorseless killers. After Kailey witnesses brutality at the hands of the bunny she loses it: This sucks. I think I’m going to throw up,” I say as I bend over dry-heaving. “I’m never watching Bugs Bunny again, ever. Yeah, I totally loved Kailey’s twisted sense of humor. She and I could be really good friends. Speaking of friends, Kailey’s best friend Amber. Yeah, why was she ever friends with her. The things that come out of this girls mouth made me want to slap my kindle. But Kailey being the good person she is (after all she is Karma) she usually just brushes off Amber’s badattiude with an ‘Oh that’s Amber” excuse. UGH!!!! In one instance Amber is telling Kailey about how she thwarted a mugger with the pepper spray that Kailey had given her earlier in the night. ‘…See what happens when you fight back?’ There’s a long pause. It’s very obviously a stab at Kailey for not being able to fight off her attacker. By this time I had really had it with Kailey’s so called friend Amber, after this I just wanted a furry bunny to come rip her head off. Kailey has no shortage of real friends though. From her mentor Gunthreon, to the two hotties in her life Conner and Ladimer, and a Grebel named Bu, a woodsprite named Jenna and several others. I have to say that the romance in this book is very much backseat to the other troubles in our heroines life, and I am ok with that. She really had a lot on her plate so it was refreshing that she had two guys Conner and Ladimer willing to help her along and be there for her. She enjoys both of their company and by the end of the book I still have no idea which one is the right fit for her. The ending…what. was. that? Oh I needed more, and this book was long, but by the end I was so hooked I wanted it to keep going. I cannot wait to read the next installment. Emariya has agreed to an engagement to Prince Torian despite the prophecy of the stones. The alliance is one to convince the people of Torian’s kingdom to support the search and retrieval of Emariya’s father, who is still missing. The opening scene’s of this book are scary. Princess Terin is kidnapped and Emariya is trapped in some sort of black void. Both are a product of heartbreaking betrayal from people close to Emariya. Kelly Walker really has a knack for writing fantasy. Her wording and storytelling just flows. It seems effortless. Reading her words is like floating. That’s the only way I can describe the feeling I get while reading about Emariya. Writers of fantasy usually are verbose, however, often times I find myself bogged down by the words. Walker walks the line between wordy and light perfectly.
For all intents, it was as if the world around her had ceased to exist, leaving her alone in the quiet nothingness.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as you get deeper in the book the better it gets. This book is another book where Emariya travels a lot. It’s not the same though. Nothing on her trip to her Mother’s homeland smacks of a repeat of book one. Even when they pass familiar landmarks it’s still fresh and new. This time she has Torain with her for the whole journey. I cannot tell you how delighted I was about that. Torain is still his beautiful self, and I still love him. He seems a bit lighter in this book than he was in the first book, but that is probably because he is no longer a suspect in any wrong doings. The build up and tension of their relationship is killing me. Things get hot, but it’s not a done deal yet. If you catch my drift. Which I kind of found refreshing. Also, considering Emaryia spent a good portion of this book unconscious I’m kinda happy that Torian can keep his hands to himself. She’s got a lot to deal with, without the man in her life, being all pushy. Reeve, Emariya’s brother is still the gross betrayer that he turned out to be in the first book, but then again we see a different side when he is dealing with his own pull of the stones. That’s all I can say about that without spoiling part of the book. I’m an action girl. I like there to be some action in the books that I read. There is plenty of action here and Emariya proves herself to be useful, resourceful heroine that we all love to read about. People die, and it’s heartbreaking. Kelly is not afraid to kill people. Did I cry, well of course. But don’t tell anyone. It will ruin my tough girl rep. Overall, this book is a great second installment to the series. It’s not just filler, there are significant things that happen in the book that need to happen. Honestly, I wish I could talk about them, but if I did I would spoil the book. There is so much good stuff here. Just go read it, please. You won’t be sorry....more

Alyx leads a tough life as a light warrior. Even within this low class system of Angels she is an outsider. Abandoned by her rogue parents she feels she must always work harder than every one else to prove her worth. Her whole life changes when she starts recieving visions. She soon learns her destiny is bigger than even she can imagine and that her whole life has been covered in shadows. I loved this take on Angels. I didn’t really feel like I was reading about angels. They were more kick-a$$ warriors that had cool powers and fought demons. Alyx is strong, stubborn and tough. Very little gets her down and nothing keeps her down. No matter what she stays true to what she believes in. I admire that about her character. She may be small but she works hard to be sure that this is never a disadvantage to her. I, at times, found this new angel mythos a bit confusing. I am not a religious person so most of my point of reference comes from the TV show from Supernatural. About half way through the book everything started clicking together and I genuinely started enjoying the story. The little lesson chapters on bloodink (angel ink that has been distilled and is used in tattoos to give magical powers) and the angel magic had also stopped so maybe I was just over-thinking a bit. Okay, Okay so angelic warriors using tattoos for extra power is not exactly something that is new. I think Cassandra Clare fans will immediately see similarities in those things. However, for the most part this book stands on it’s own. That is where the similarities between the two works start and finish. I’m action girl. If the author can write gripping -fast paced action scenes then I will always be a satisfied reader. Reading about Alyx flipping through the air and using her swords was beyond awesome. The book overall was evenly paced and was easy to keep coming back to. Every time I set down my kindle I came back wanting more. No typos that I can recall, the writing was clean and well edited. My biggest complaint was the ending. I finally felt like I was getting a good grip on the characters and what was happening and the book ended. I was like “uhh…that’s the ending”. It’s like when you are watching your favorite show and the final scene is incomplete or just fades out with giving you that final piece of information you have been waiting six episodes to see. Overall I recommend this book for readers that are looking for a good angel tale, who like lots of action and a kick-a$$ heroine and love books that come in series. I also recommend it for people who do not hate cliff-hangers, because this one is a doozy....more

But that doesn't mean life is simple. Oh no. Nero is still out to get her. Silver also learns who she really is and what that means for her future.
So much to talk about. But I can't because I don't want to spoil this series. After two weeks you should have at least picked up Sterling by now. Seriously, such a good series. It's got all the right elements that make a great PNR. In Impulse we learn more about the depth of each character and the pain that they all hide within themselves. I found Justus's growth as a character the most rewarding. I'll admit. I couldn't stand Justus in Sterling, and I wasn't too fond of him in Twist. But in Impulse I think I finally get him.
"'I love you, Ghuardian, I love you.' When he started to back away, my hands gripped his shoulders. 'You're all the family I've got. You feed me, care for me, teach me, protect me, and put up with me. That's love--more than my own mother ever offered. You don't have to say it back.'My voice cracked. 'What can I do to take away your pain away?' ......he dropped his head against my shoulder and his body sagged. 'Don't speak of my charm. The jokes--they sting.'"
Ok. I know that is a long quote but it just wraps up perfectly how these characters have grown up and grown on my throughout this series. All of our other favorite men are in this book and they all deal with their own personal issues and battles. Justus's just struck a chord with me. Silver's relationship with her mother is finally brought to a head and it's heartbreaking. I've suffered through a strained relationship with my own mother in the past. I sobbed. Nothing hurts more than thinking that your own mother doesn't love you. Dark can write human emotion even when her characters are not human. That is why I love her work and I think that is why so many others are in love with it too. Of course the steamy hot men don't hurt either. ;) ...more

In this sequel to The Charmed, Olivia finds her self living with her guardians and neck deep in the Brethren’s world. She works with Alec and the others to train and strengthen not only her body but her gifts. I really enjoyed this book. Like really enjoyed it! I loved seeing more of Alec and her guardians. They are all full of swagger and sarcasm. Olivia very much “finds herself ” during her time with the Brethren. She learns her limits, and some very hard facts about herself and her parents. She matures and learns that saying ‘everything is ok’ doesn’t mean that it is indeed, ok. The pacing was great and there was enough going on at the Oracle (the Brethren’s homebase) to keep me engaged. There was definitly something strange going on there. I couldn’t figure out why, Alec’s uncle, Reese was such a butthead to Olivia. I loved meeting all of the new characters that the author introduces in this book. Olivia and Caleb spend at least the first half of the book separated. It is hard on Olivia and also, it was hard for me, as a reader. I felt a definite lack of spark from Olivia and this separation was the cause of it. Once she and Caleb start interacting again the book takes off. Caleb is still that sexy, growly, heart throb we know and love. But my heart belongs to Alec. The writer introduces a plot element that had me fearing for his life at one point. I just kept thinking…”there is no way this is going to play out with out him dying. No way.” Some very heart stopping moments for me during this book. The steam was literally rolling off of my kindle once Olivia and Caleb reunite. It was hot. Really, really hot. Umm was that a spoiler? Ahh I am having so much trouble writing this review. I want to tell you everything. Everything. It’s so hard to keep my mouth shut. Jax and Gemma. Jax and Gemma, what to say about them without giving too much away? Well, let’s see Jax is still the gentle giant that we grew to love. He has some really great tender moments. Gemma, wasn’t in this book as much as I wanted her to be. She was kind of sorting her self out. It really was a book about character growth. Once again the author builds a beautiful landscape for her characters to play in. The Oracle grounds sound breathtaking and I could easily visualize them. The final action scene was Ah-maz-ing. It was an epic battle. The first book was so action packed that I was missing those scenes when reading this book. While we do get some action while Olivia is training it was no where near as intense as the first book. Until we get to the big show down. Then it was hold on to your seats!!! Davin aka the big bad was a lurking threat in this book. I know that the author is holding out the goods on us. Olivia needed this lesser but still intense throwdown to happen to show her that she is ready. Is this book a little bit of a set up for the next one? Yes, but that was ok. Because EVERYTHING in this book needed to happen as it did. I can see the bigger picture coming together and it is going to be out of this world!...more
