I love love love dual povs. They are my absolute favourite and I picked up this book, knowing very little about it. Imagine my delight when I find out that this is a dual pov AND it has two different covers to represent that!! I'm so happy I have the purple one!!
Said and Tia represent your classic best friends turned rivals turned mutuals turned lovers, with a poc cultural infusion. Ugh how I love this trope and this book did this trope pride. And seeing pocs in books is something that is so inherently special to me, especially rooted in the desi community. Not to mention the desi sapphic rep too!
This book does such a beautiful job of showing that people can be of any religion or faith, no matter their appearance. It follows Tia and Said, bringing a different perspective on the discrimination that can occur within your own community, purely based on race.
Tia and Said were such in-depth characters, who each had their own well-fleshed aspirations, struggles and personalities. Whilst Said was struggling with following his own dreams amongst familial and communal pressure, Tia was struggling with losing the Islamic centre and the aftermath of a tragedy that happened years prior. Tia was your girlboss queen who didn't let anyone get to her and Said reminded me of a little golden retriever who had no clue that he did actually liked Tia ...more
SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP WHAT IS LIFE EVEN WITHOUT SADIEJULIUS.
This book was a masterpiece front to back, back to front, sideways and diagonally. SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP WHAT IS LIFE EVEN WITHOUT SADIEJULIUS.
This book was a masterpiece front to back, back to front, sideways and diagonally. And in my opinion, is Ann Liangs best book to date. The way the characters were written was immaculate. There were so many times where I would read a line and just see myself in Sadie, whether it was her people pleasing side or the side of her that craves validation, Sadie just felt like an extension of myself. She was so castles crumbling x mirrorball coded, it was actually insane. And when I tell you I cried when Sadie cried, oml the tears -
Julius was a whole other breed. That boy had me on an emotional rollercoaster - giggling and awwh-ing :(. The way his family dynamic is portrayed is so intriguing with his older brother being the golden child. Ann Liang managed to do the impossible - make me feel for the younger sibling. Protect this boy at all costs. I love him SM.
NOW, LETS TALK SADIEJULIUS. OMG. They. are. everything. The way that Ann wrote their relationship is everything that I ever want. From the academic rivals to the little competition they have over everything to the fierce protectiveness they have for each other, it's not even me who's writing this review anymore, it's my melted on the floor self. Every little jab, every kiss, every line was banger after banger. Ann Liang never misses with her romances and she CERTAINLY did not miss with this one. That 'new year's day' coded scene??? When I tell you I screamed -

Tella is stronger than me because i would've folded for Jacks immediately. he is so babygirl that i just want to give him a hug. Anyways, the book was average but the characters are what make it so special. Stephanie is so good at world building and writing engaging and in-depth characters with beautiful relationship dynamics. I LOVED Tella and Scarlett's relationship, it meant everything and more to me....more

"I’m ignoring my homework and neglecting my phone, instead curled up in my bed with Patch. We’re snuggled up rewatching the first episode of Gilmore Girls, just because."
If that doesn't set the tone for this book, then I dont know what does!! This book is the perfect combination of cute and cozy, whilst also exploring heavier topics such as Whit's struggle with her PCOS and the fatphobia she becomes subject to as a result of it. It had all of the vibes of Gilmore Girls, except with more diversity and representation.
The story follows a Latina character Whit Rivera (obviously) who hasn't had the best summer (her boyfriend moved away so they're long-distancing which isn't exactly working out). She spent her summer instead at the doctor's office while they try to diagnose her symptoms, eventually finding out she has PCOS. As a result, she unfortuantely has to resign from the summer internship she was looking forward to. (As I said, not the best of summers ...more
No but in all seriousness, now I think Stephanie's books are most beautiful as physica**3.75 stars**
WELL. I FINALLY FINISHED IT. (SCREAMS OVER JACKS)
No but in all seriousness, now I think Stephanie's books are most beautiful as physical copies. Whenever I picked up this book on my phone or laptop, I struggled immensely to get into the story and spent about a month trying to read it. Then I finally caved and got a physical, after which I DEVOURED it in about 3 days. It's so magical reading it in a book, it feels so mystical and addictive once you start reading it.
The intrigue of Legend's identity WOULD have kept me hooked but I'd already had it spoiled accidentally by one of my friends :((. And tbf I think I would've realised who legend was by halfway through cause Stephanie made it quite obvious imo.
I didnt seem to care much for TellaDante, they low-key bored me tbh although we did get some GREAT scenes out of them. I just didn't feel the same level of attachment to them or the story as I like to. HOWEVER, a certain Jacks made the story oh so more interesting and some of his one-liners made me giggle and squeal (yes I know he's evil but-) He is the reason for me pushing my rating of this book up by 0.25-0.5 stars icl....more
