The author has a talent of making you feel claustrophobic in the most isolated of wildernesses.
Gray after Dark follows Miley, an Olympic competitor who is taking time away whilst working at a wilderness resort. In her spare time she utilizes the vast span of the woods to do long distance running through the trails, that is until she stumbles upon two degenerate backwoods men who hold her captive and take her back to their cabin.
With the woods spanning over 4000 miles it’s essentially impossible to find her, but her team mate and potential love interest is determined not to give up.
The plot made me so queezy, the thought of how impossible her situation and the danger she was constantly in as she fights for her survival.
This was unputdownable (except for the times I did literally have to put it down for a breather ...more

I was sucked in to the plot from the very beginning, I could feel ominous undertones letting me know something BIG was about to go down, and the author did a great job of building tension and sinister subtext whilst dropping lots of Easter eggs that would later become relevant to the plot.
If you are a fan of Freida McFadden, I found Stalks to have very similar vibes in the writing style and feel of the book and narration over all which I absolutely loved.
Stalks follows our FMC who goes on a romantic picnic in the middle of the woods in Maine, and things just go tragically wrong, getting worse and worse as time passes.
There were times when I wasn’t convinced the narrator was reliable and I just couldn’t tell which way things were going to go. I was glad for straight forward answers and clarification at the end, tying up all the loose ends.
I feel at times a couple of the descriptions and sentences used where a little repetitive, but I also put this down to reading the book in one sitting, making it more noticeable to me as I flew through the pages. I genuinely couldn’t stop reading and stayed up late to finish.
This book was definitely full of creepy unnerving scenes and situations that feel more enhanced when you read late at night. I felt like I kept having to check over my shoulder to make sure no one was behind me ...more

Nightwatching definitely lives up to its status in the thriller genre. This is my first Tracy Sierra book and I will be adding her to my auto read author list, I was truly blown away by the contents of this book!
The first chapter absolutely throws you head first into the deep end and I felt as though I was plunged into ice water, the fear immediately seeping through my skin and I could almost hear my heart pounding in my ears.
The descriptive scene of an intruder in the house was so chilling and creepy. unbeknown to him, the mother was awake and frozen to the spot, aware of his presence in the pitch dark. Everything took place in only minutes, but I felt to the reader that hours past by at a gruellingly slow pace as our FMC went through all the scenarios in her mind, trying to decide the best path to take that would secure the safety of her and her two young children before the “monster” could get them.
The scenes with the intruder were truly agonizing, how do you keep young children quiet and safe for hours on end, all the while the big bad guy is patiently waiting them out with plans to harm them, nothing could be more torturous for a parent and that was palpable through the pages.
The other side of this book had flash backs from the past to events following the intrusion. There was a lot of subtext and undertones about the trials that women must endure alone due to the ignorance of men. The way that it is so easy to not believe a woman, and instead label her as delusional, paranoid, hysterical, an unfit mother, simply because she won’t placate people by being agreeable and making their jobs easier by saying she was lying and it was all a hoax.
The way a woman can start to doubt herself after the people who should be the protectors refuse to safeguard and validate her. How easy it is to be suspicious instead of listening to the difficult truths.
The book ended with a bang, so much tension building up, I was honestly spooked whilst reading in the dark, the atmosphere was chilling and claustrophobic.
I enjoyed the conversation about what defines somebody as crazy. Surely an individual who could go to such lengths to harm innocent people mustn’t be sane? And yet at the same time how can a sane person be so methodical? So rational in their thinking and plotting, aware of every outcome and consequence in a moments notice. Is it scarier to believe the people who wish us harm are fully sane because then we have no excuse, rhyme or reason for their behaviour? No where to place the blame?
It’s safe to say I loved everything about this book and it is in my top 3 reads this year. A thousand stars, highly recommend!!! A definite must read. Applause to the author! ...more

I was so invested into the characters due to the potential love interest relationship, but what I loved most is this aspect did NOT take away from the spooky, creepy going’s on of the seemingly haunted / possessed home our FMC bought.
Also those end twists?! What!! Obsessed
Highly recommend this was an absolutely delightful read and hit all the right spots for me ...more

The story originated as a multiple post thread on a Reddit like group and was eventually put together and published as a book.
The plot follows a grown up man recounting traumatic events in his childhood where he has memory gaps. He has many questions which his mum refused to acknowledge or answer over the years. Revisiting memories from the fresh perspective of an adult is eye opening and very concerning for him.
In the (long) chapters we go back to a specific time frame in his childhood starting from very young to early teens.
The creepy aspect is that this child absolutely had a terrifying encounter with a creepy adult male stalker that spanned over around a decade of his life without his knowledge. Without going into details or spoilers, events that take place lead to multiple people’s deaths and a lot of shivers down your spine.
The book finished with a photocopy of a police report which confuses the reader as to whether certain aspects of this book are in fact based on true events. There is nothing on the web that fully clears this up and the author is somewhat unknown due to his pen-name disguise.
Do I recommend this read? Absolutely. Was there parts of the book that gave me the heebie-jeebies? Multiple occasions yes....more
