What a lovely read Take a Chance on Me was! I was really in the mood for an easy and light read and this was just the right book for that. I felt like I was reading a story about people that I would actually want to be a part of my life and the ending of this book was rather bittersweet for me only because I didn’t want it to end.
Charlie is the main character and I just adore her. She has made a good life for herself after the devastating loss of her teenage daughter and then shortly after her divorce from her husband. The problem? She’s not fulfilled whatsoever and she longs for a contented and happy life. On New Year’s Eve her and her best friend, Mercedes decide to make a Carpe Diem list, much like a bucket list. In their inebriated state, they choose silly and outrageous things. Mercedes decides to change things up a bit and the two switch lists, which made for some silly fun.
All of the characters in this book are lovable and sweet in their own way. From Mercedes and her husband, to Charlie’s coworkers at both the hospital and the cafe, to her sweet elderly neighbor with a quirky and funny pet bird, Bert, I truly loved them all. Everything about this book is warm and heartfelt and there is a great message at play. It’s about living life to the fullest and taking risks even if you’re scared or fear looking foolish.
If Charlie were real I would head over to the UK and make her be my friend, hell I would make the entire cast become my friend because every single one of them was utterly charming and loads of fun. My only slight complaint was things were very predictable as far as major plot points, but I was still surprised by Charlie’s adventures. I didn’t even really care all that much about the predictability because I was having so much fun reading this, I swear I laughed out loud numerous times.

This was an odd and unique little read, definitely not my go to style but when I read the synopsis I was intrigued. The narrator is only referred to as the Stranger and that did make me feel removed from him a bit. There was a quiet intensity to this story, strange unsettling quality where you never quite knew what would happen next. It did have a lot to say about loneliness and acceptance that resonated with me. The end was a little abrupt which was not my fave but overall an interesting read. I did a combo of print and audio and found Julian Cihi to fit the voice of The Stranger exactly as I imagined he would sound. ...more

I will be going back I don’t normally jump into a series this late but I’ve been wanting to try the author so I gave it a go and it was totally fine. I will be going back to the earlier books though because I really liked this one! The way Jolie & Vaughn met cracked me up and I was instantly invested in their story. Haha I don’t even know but you guys, this was SO good! I wasn’t sure how weird it would be to have Callie & Lewis all grown up but I shouldn’t have worried for a second because the author did an amazing job with their story. The time spent in flashbacks from when they were dating as teenagers was adorable and showed just how much history these two have, it made the stakes that much higher as adults and I was so invested in their HEA. Their lifelong relationship made their connection so intense and special and that translated to their passion so freaking well. Seeing their families together so much in this one was adorable and then the author always manages to add some crazy action and tension to up the stakes even higher making this yet another super well rounded installment to one of my very favorite series! ...more

It was really fast paced and on the shorter side so it was a quick one and it also had short chapters which always propels things for me. The mystery was decent if not earth shattering and I enjoyed all the various viewpoints you get until you find out whodunnit. ...more

I enjoyed both timelines equally and appreciated each women’s struggles and issues and the way the author wrote both characters. At times it’s sad but overall it’s heartwarming and entertaining with plenty of heart and an engaging story....more

I even found the mystery aspect to be a little lacking for me in the end, but where this worked well for me was in the characters themselves. The exploration of the Kenney families complex dynamics was interesting to me and the addition of some pretty shocking secrets and lies helped to maintain my attention. Despite it being about murder it has that light and gossipy feel that I like in a summer read. You hear from three women in alternating POVs, Catherine, Maya and Leanne as they arrive at an annual clambake to be told it’s actually Peter’s wedding, surprise! Catherine is his old girlfriend, Maya is his current girlfriend and Leanne is coparenting her nephew with Peter. So plenty of drama for sure and then the wedding ends in murder and I think that’s all you need to know. While a couple parts were predictable I thought there were still some surprises in the end and for a whodunnit style read it was fun and entertaining....more

The romance here is a super slow burn, some angst and the authors signature witty banter. I’m not into astrology but this actually made me wanna dive into it a little more, the way it was woven into the story was delightful and interesting. I loved theThis is one of those books where you really have to pay close attention because there is a lot going on and there are a ton of characters. I loved the atmosphere here, it was claustrophobic and chilling and the locked room style mystery really worked for me. Most of the characters are downright awful and this one goes very dark in terms of subject matter and I love the way the author showcases this type of thing. I don’t know if I would say this is a slow burn exactly but it definitely is more of a steady paced read with more action as you get close to the end. There are also some supernatural elements at play here and when that’s well done in a thriller it freaks me out and I was definitely creeped out here. There were some really well executed twists too, if you want a different type of mystery this is a great choice! ...more

The author always does a really good job at exploring the psychological side of things in her books, (I’ve read most of them) and her background gives her an edge into the way people behave that always fascinates me. So there was still that strength here and she explores grooming, the effects of peer pressure and many more dark issues here with a keen insight. Where she lost me was the constant need to suspense disbelief and then the ending felt rushed and abrupt with so many questions left hanging. Having so many unresolved issues kept me from rating this higher but I’m sure I’ll read the author again in the future because many of her books have been great for me. ...more
