“Loyal unto death and beyond”
First. Let me just tell y'all. This review is totally unhinged and all over the place - kinda like the plot of this book. The first time I read this book I was so so shook and had tears streaming down my face at my work desk. I audibly gasped and could not hold in the pain and anguish that this book branded me with.
╰┈➤ In true SJM fashion you get down to that last 20% and you had better buckle up. I was. not. prepared. This time, I was ready for what was to come but it was no less impactful. Literally screaming in pain into my pillow during some of the events that take place.
I know this book is not new to many but I do want to just point out for some people that have yet to read it that this series is different than other SJM series in the fact that it's more Urban Fantasy. Meaning, we are not with horses, swords and sorcery in this. We are in a future time and there's cars, cell phones and buildings as we know them today. Normally this is not my cuppa right? Right. I know I'm not alone in this opinion. I just don't really dig Urban Fantasy but THIS BOOK. This book does it right and I love it so much. So if that's what may be holding you back from picking it up, please don't let it discourage you and take the jump - or do the drop. Lol. Iykyk. It's totally worth it.
╰┈➤ For this book, we follow the story of Bryce Quinlan she is a half-fae half-human person. She and her best friend Danika had been best friends for a really long time until one day she finds Danika dead along with most of her friends. Two years later, Bryce is still dealing with grief and gets tasked with helping to find the murderer of her friend among other things. For this, she gets assigned a companion to protect her from demons that have started randomly attacking people. Throughout the story, Hunt becomes more than her guarding angel and stops being a pain in her ass. But little does she knows that she really didn’t know anything about what happened two years ago and what she finds out is enough to make her question everything.
Bryce, had been through so much. After losing her friend, she went on a dark path. She stopped dancing, she stopped living. However, when she gets tasked with figuring out the true reason for her friends’ murder, she vows to find who killed her and get revenge. And oh she does. Break out the hooover ladies and gents! One of the most epic scenes ever! I mean, to die for. She's so fierce and loyal and refused to ever give up.
╰┈➤ This series really starts out so different than the usual SJM book- we are presented with a murder mystery from the very beginning and trying to solve it. There's also sooo many characters because of how vast this world is. It can be a lot to take it , but just breath and keep going... I promise it's all so worth it. Bryce is top notch. I love her like I love Nesta and Manon. She is a fierce warrior. Total badass.
There is so much involved in this plot and so many characters that I can't even do it justice because I'll be all over the place in the review. I need a diagram with a wand in my hand to point out what I'm talking about. Be prepared to maybe need to take notes lol. It's a lot but damn so so good.
Let me also just say that for whatever reason the MMC's in SJM's books are never my main squeeze. Now, don't get me wrong... all of the men and women are seriously hot and badass so it can be a really hard choice lol. For me though, I have always seemed to love the 'second' man in her books and 'second' woman. For example- in ToG I'm a Dorian lover/Manon lover. Hands down, hands down, hands mother fucking downnnn. ACOTAR is Cassian and Nesta for me because they give me life. I do love Rhys, don't get me wrong but Cassian is just yum. This book is no exception to the rule. I'm unequivocally in love with Ruhn. Hunt is amazing but Ruhn is everything.
╰┈➤ Speaking of romance in this book - dare I say that it's probably the healthiest relationship in the SJM verse? Hunt is amazing. Make no mistake, I clearly am a Ruhn lover but don't let that fool you that Hunt is any less amazing than the gold standard for husband material. He is damn near perfect and the fact that he deals with the whole Jelly Jubilee obsession is so cute.
Can't wait to reread book 2 and so excited for book 3 to come in January!

When I read Mist and Fury for the first time I was positive that nothing could top it. And then I read Wings and Ruin.
I could honestly argue as to why each one is a favorite of mine...which one is my favorite? That's a harder questions than most life decisions...
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ ♡•°`. I think SJM is capable of jedi mind tricks and just knows exactly what I want in a book and then delivers even more.
I mean, whew... what a mf ride! Again! I'm telling you, I could never get bored with this series. Third time reading this book and I love it just as much as the first time.
The pain is no less agonizing, the love is no less bursting, the rage is no less fiery.
SJM sets up the perfect KO in my opinion. Readers are taken through the emotions in Mist and Fury and left wondering after the cliffhanger- and then tossed back into Prythian with Feyre being a total badass. Political maneuvering, battles, war, unexpected allies... I mean, just all out anxiety inducing sequences.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ ♡•°`. I feel like only Maas has the capability to make me ugly cry and sob for a particular character - I feel like anyone else would have dropped the ball on that one. But damn, I'm still distraught over it after multiple re-reads.
Alright, maybe not the only author - but I can't think of another one right now, so that's saying something.
I love the entire Maasverse so much that I'll continue to read them over and over again each year.
