It is a story about finding both independence and family, but it’s so much more. The characters pulled me in from the first page, and I quickly became invested in seeing what happens next. Situations that could be trite or stereotyped are instead handled respectfully and make sense in the context of the story. The ending had several twists—some of which I saw coming and others of which surprised me—but ultimately brought things to a satisfying conclusion and provided a sense of hope....more
