Caitlin and team are back trying to solve more gruesome murders.
What's better than 1 serial killer? 2! Oh wait, that doesn't sound good at all if it was real life, but it does make for some good, edge of your seat, fast paced fiction reading. Once the plot gets moving, the action is non stop, which I have come to except from this series.
Overall, another suspensefully dark and captivating book in a series that I highly recommend.
Series notes: For sure read the series in order, so you can get a feel for Caitlin.
Narration notes: Hillary is a well seasoned narrator that does a great job.

May has just been promoted to Deputy Sheriff. Her first case is the dead body of a young woman found in the lake. The same lake her sister disappeared near a few years ago.
Overall, this was fine, nothing groundbreaking. I thought May did a great job investigating. But then her other sister, the hot shot FBI agent, is called on to the case and May is cast aside. I didn't like her parents and sister not being supportive of her.
Narration notes: Didn't seem too excited to narrate, but overall fine. A bit monotone and sounded a little too young for the character. I'm not sure if something was going on with the audio, but some phrases were unnecessarily repeated that didn't seem like they would be written that way in the book.

Troy is retired from the Navy when the NYPD asks for his help to bring down some terrorists.
I've been bugged lately when police ask civilians to consult on cases. This one is okay with me since he's ex-military. I liked him and Agent Dubois, even though they didn't like each other.
It's fast paced and the action was non-stop, which kept me listening well into the night. I don't read too many espionage thrillers, but this was a hoopla bonus borrow, so I figured what the hay.
Narration notes: I thought he did a great job. He really kept me engaged.

Dakota's ex partner needs her help tracking down a serial killer.
I liked Dakota well enough, but she does a little too much drinking for my liking. The pace was steady and I enjoyed her partner, Marcus. A bit repetitive and predictable, but overall fine.
Another Hoopla bonus borrow that I probably wouldn't have picked up otherwise. Free on Amazon if you want to give it a whirl.
Narration notes: She did okay for the female parts, but not so great on the male ones.

Morgan is a surgeon helping the FBI when someone is murdered at the hospital.
Does the FBI really request civilians assistance on cases? Especially murders? Doesn't seem plausible to me. I will say it was clever of Morgan to figure out how the murderer was getting his victims though.
Overall, fine. It's fast paced, has short chapters and there's enough action that kept me listening and interested, but ultimately I wasn't blown away. I don't see myself continuing on with the series.
Narration notes: She sounded alright, but why on earth do we have a British narrator for American characters?
*Thanks to Hoopla bonus borrow so I didn't have to use a credit*
BTW - the GR blurb used to be incorrect, which is why you might see some reviews talking about it. I’ve updated the blurb to match Amazon.

Kate is on the hunt for 2 boys that didn't come home by dinnertime after fishing one afternoon. One boy is Amish and one is English, and one father isn't too happy these boys are friends.
The premise does sound heart pounding, but my heart remained beating at it's normal pace throughout. Perhaps because we get the POV of the boys, so we know all will turn out well. But it usually does when Kate and her team are on the case.
Rowan is our detective and married to Shepherd. They met when they were in foster care together and have been married for 15 years. Amber is our therapist who is not happy in her marriage to Mark. They share a special needs son, Connor.
Towards the end we get chapters from Rowan's Aunt Jenny, who is in her care and has Alzheimers, and her partner, Kellan, which I liked.
I can't say I was surprised with how the story played out, but I was fully captivated in this thriller. It's super fast paced and well written with a good mix of likable and unlikable characters.

Narration notes: I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.

Honeybear was just trying to be helpful when he dug up some old bones, which puts Kate on the hunt to find out who they belong to and how they got in the field.
Even though this wasn't a fresh murder, or anything to really do with murder, I still enjoyed the mystery of it.

There has been another brutal murder in Painter’s Mill and Kate and her team are on the case. This time someone has been burned alive. Can’t get much more brutal than that. Was this a random attack on a snowy night? Or did Milan deserve it?
I wouldn’t expect anything but non stop action when Kate is involved and the action doesn’t let up. Kate seems to always get herself into dangerous situations and these were top tier in the danger department.
What I appreciate about Linda’s writing is that there isn’t any repetition. We get the information once and when it’s time to relay it to others she simply just tells us she filled them in or something to that effect. Way to save time and not bog us down.
Overall, another fabulous addition to the series.
Side note ~ I like the budding romance that seems to be developing within the team. I suppose since Kate and Tomassetti are finally married we need another couple to root for, and I’m all for these two.
I was lucky enough to have both the ebook and the audio. Both worked perfectly. Narration notes: She’s a bit robotic, but does a fine job. It's not the voice I picture in my head for Kate, but I’ve grown accustomed to it.
Series notes: I think you should read them all in order because they’re great, but I suppose it’s not absolutely necessary. Each book follows a different murder, but Kate’s life is progressing.

A short review for a short story.
A battered woman is being chased through the woods and ends up on Noah Fisher's doorstep.
Kate has her work cut out for her since this woman has no clue who she is or how she got to Painter's Mill. As always, she does a great job getting to the bottom of things, but not before getting a little roughed up herself. A great installment in the series.

A short review for a short story.
Noah and Ashley had a lovely time at her school dance, but on his way home he's struck by a car. Kate investigates the hit and run that might have more to do with someone not liking an Amish boy with an Englisher.
This one was full of action. I don't know how Kate's Explorer is still running at this point, or does she keep getting a new one? A tinsey bit predictable, but this is my favorite of the novellas.

Kate & Tomasetti are off to a bed and breakfast for a weekend away. Tomasetti wants nothing more than to just relax, but when they learn there's a girl that disappeared from the area 22 years ago they're soon wrapped up in the mystery of it all.
Not typical for this series in that they were not working on an active brutal murder case, so I thought I'd be bored stiff, but I ended up liking it. I was pretty sure this was a solid 4 star read the whole time, but I was quite pleased with how the end played out so I bumped er up.

Cami is a hacker that has been caught and in order to avoid prison she makes a deal with the FBI to help them out on a case. Does this stuff really happen? Seems odd they'd let a civilian just join them on the hunt for a murderer. Don't FBI agents go through extensive training?? Well I would hope they do.
Anyway, even though I think the plot is implausible, Cami was a good hacker. She got herself out of a tight spot at the end when I'm sure she was trying not to poop her pants.
Overall, fine~ish. I probably don't see myself continuing on with the series unless I need a quick read to fill in the gaps.
Narration notes: I have no complaints with Kate's performance.

An interesting plot ~ Claire had to be resuscitated and when she wakes up she has some psychic abilities. These abilities will help her solve murder cases.
There were some edge of the seat moments and it was perfectly paced. There weren't any slow moments really, which helped keep up the suspense.
This was a fine series starter. I'm not sure I will rush to read the next in the series, but will possibly fit them in if they're available on Hoopla and I can't find anything else to maximize my monthly credits. Luckily got this one as a bonus borrow for November, so it didn't count, woo hoo. Free on Amazon if you're interested ~ I don't know for how long.
Narration notes: Nina was okay, I suppose, but we've got a male POV, so we know I'd have liked a male narrator.

Meh this was alright. Kate investigated as well as she usually does. Is it terrible that I'd rather a person attack people then an animal attack people?
Narration notes: She did fine. Altered her voice well.
Ah my mama heart. As terrible as it sounds I do like a missing child plot and in this one we have 10 missing children and 4 missing adults.
Our main narrators are parents: Reynold, Clare & Ben. Olivia is headmaster of Littleford Primary School and Sadie & Daniel are our detectives. We hear from one of the teachers in The Bunker and The Visitor too. And excitingly we hear from one of the children, Luca, to ease our pounding hearts just a little to let us know what's going on where they are, but in turn it decreased the suspense since we knew they were okay.
There are so many different POV's that it does have some repetition, but I wasn't too bothered by that because we are slowly given little nuggets about why the children might have been kidnapped. Some things were pretty predictable and I wasn't thrilled with the 2 similar secrets from the parents. And the secret that started this all, while on the terrible side, was not really groundbreaking IMO.
On to the police ~ I could just feel how tired they were from working nonstop, but do I feel they could've been a little quicker and a smidgen more thorough. I won't give much away, but this could have been wrapped up quicker than it was. They made a few questionable choices as well.
Overall, not perfect, but enjoyable and fast paced. The ending was rather surprising.
Cover gripe ~ there are 2 options, but I'm not in love with either. Maybe the school bus one if I had to choose, but I'd have liked it to look like the one described. I do like that the yellow lettering matches the lock though.

We have a few main characters: Blake ~ missing Wonderland worker, Vanessa ~ new deputy police chief, Oscar ~ security guard at Wonderland, Bianca ~ CEO of Wonderland who likes to sleep with the teenage staff, and Ava ~ Vanessa's daughter who just started working at Wonderland.
Vanessa begins her new position with dead bodies and missing teens. I found her to be a great investigator and she acted like she really cared about the missing boys. She certainly did a better job than her predecessor.
This is a pretty dark read with more sexual encounters than I would have expected from a thriller. Overall, it was fast paced with some predictability, some twists and a whole lotta creepiness.
