Molly & Seth Molly is a rom com screenwriter that doesn't believe in love and marriage due to her father's example. Seth wants nothing more than to find 'the one' and live happily ever after. He thought he found that with Molly when they were in high school, but she left him and broke his heart. Now they're at their 15 year reunion and the attraction is still there. Can they easily find their way back to each other?
Oh Seth I felt so bad for him. He wears his heart on his sleeve and just wants someone to love him forever. He keeps getting his heart broken and his emotions clearly came through on the page, or in my ears rather.
Eh with Molly. I never really warmed up to her on the romance front, but she was a great friend to her bff's.
Overall, this is fine as a debut. There were enough funny bits to keep me entertained, but I just felt like so much time was wasted.
Side note ~ there are a lot of emails and text messages, which I wouldn't have minded if I was reading it, but to hear all the info following 'to..., from..., date..., time..., subject...' over and over and over again annoyed me.
Narration notes: They both did fine. Tim still needs to work on his lady voice.

Ryan was clonked on the noggin 5 years ago and girlfriend, Ali, was missing when he woke up. Now he’s in Europe with his law school friends when he sees someone that brings back memories from that horrible night.
Michael is an accountant who got involved with a very dangerous man. I wasn’t sure how his storyline was going to fit in, but I was quite pleased with how it did. Looking back now I'm like duh.
Poppy is the deputy sheriff looking for answers when Ali’s car is found in the lake with 2 bodies inside. I thought she did a great job for her first case.
The prologue was super promising, but the middle was really slow for me. Don’t get me wrong, there was a good amount of action, and there was a nice twist, but it was just a bit too slow moving for me. Even though there was a lot going on I was never fully engaged. I did like how it was all wrapped up, but I could’ve gone for a little more thrilling pizzazz. Jackpot for short chapters.
Narration notes: All the narrators did a fine job. Ryan sounded age appropriate, but could have shown a little more emotion during the action packed moments though.
There is plenty of love for this one, so don't take my word for it.

Eleanor is an author on tour in Italy, with a whole bunch of people, planning out her 10th book in a very popular series, which stars her 'friend', Connor. She's ready to kill him off in the series and he just so happens to think there's someone that actually wants him dead in real life, too.
Eleanor speaks directly to the reader (which was interesting) as we're along on the ride trying to figure out who the murderer is. With a cast of unlikable characters/suspects we are thrown for a few loops, but ultimately it's not super hard to figure out.
I can't remember exactly Eleanor's age, but I think she's in her 30's. I don't know if immature is the right word for her, but I just wish she had her act together more. She relies way too heavily on her younger sister, Harper, who is her assistant, for every little thing. The whole blackmail Connor bit was a meh, too.
Overall, cozy is not my go to for murder mysteries, but the humorous and fun moments kept me entertained, even if it took me an unusually long time (5 days) to get through it. So while I didn't hate it I'm not sure this is the right series for me.
*There are quite a bit of footnotes, which are not bothersome in the audio, and actually make listening quite fun, but I gather from those that read it that they cannot be read seamlessly. So take that into consideration if you choose to read this one*
Narration notes: Elizabeth did an outstanding job giving each character a distinct voice.

There has been another brutal murder in Painter’s Mill and Kate and her team are on the case. This time someone has been burned alive. Can’t get much more brutal than that. Was this a random attack on a snowy night? Or did Milan deserve it?
I wouldn’t expect anything but non stop action when Kate is involved and the action doesn’t let up. Kate seems to always get herself into dangerous situations and these were top tier in the danger department.
What I appreciate about Linda’s writing is that there isn’t any repetition. We get the information once and when it’s time to relay it to others she simply just tells us she filled them in or something to that effect. Way to save time and not bog us down.
Overall, another fabulous addition to the series.
Side note ~ I like the budding romance that seems to be developing within the team. I suppose since Kate and Tomassetti are finally married we need another couple to root for, and I’m all for these two.
I was lucky enough to have both the ebook and the audio. Both worked perfectly. Narration notes: She’s a bit robotic, but does a fine job. It's not the voice I picture in my head for Kate, but I’ve grown accustomed to it.
Series notes: I think you should read them all in order because they’re great, but I suppose it’s not absolutely necessary. Each book follows a different murder, but Kate’s life is progressing.

Stella is an attorney working with 9 year old, Rose, to determine which parent she should live with after the divorce. Why a divorce you ask ~ well, shockingly, [insert eye roll], the husband was sleeping with the nanny, Tina. Tina falls to her death, Rose witnessed it and she hasn't spoken since.
All characters were unlikable, but I didn't hate that so much for this book. I thought Rose's character was well written. Let's just say it wasn't a bad idea to remove all the glass from the house.
Overall, this was just fine for me. There was a heart pounding hot minute at the end, but ultimately I found it to be pretty slow moving. Bringing so much of Stella's own childhood story gave us a whole second plot that could have been it's own book. And then her love interest at the end seemed surprising to me and even Stella herself.
I'm definitely in outlier land here as everyone is loving it ...more

Foster sisters Jessica, Norah & Alicia lived their teenage years with Miss Fairchild, who was not a nice person at all.
Now years later bones have been found at their old foster home and they're heading back to a place they never wanted to visit again.
The alternating POV's give us a good sense of each of these women in the now and in the past. We, also, get a few chapters of psychiatrist visits that gave me mixed feelings at the end.
Overall, fast paced in now and slower in the past, but gripping nonetheless and will surely be a best seller. I love when the author has done research and she tells us about it in the author's note.
I was lucky enough to have both an ebook and the audio. Both ways worked perfectly fine. Narration notes: Jessica did a great job even though there wasn't too much of a variation between the characters voices.

Billie & Cassie became best friends when they were 11. Now they're in their 30's and have drifted apart. We begin on the day the baby was taken then head back 50 days before and then we're slowly coming forward to the present. And we also head back to where the toxic friendship began in 2000 and move forward to the present. I didn't find it as confusing as I just made it sound. We learn that jealously can lead to a spur of the moment decision that can change the course of what you thought you wanted.
You're just on the edge of your seat right along with Billie waiting to see when she'll get caught. They share a secret from the past, that while it is predictable I still enjoyed the suspense leading up to it being revealed.
I have family in Red Hook, so it's exciting when I am familiar with the location. Even where I went to college is mentioned. She gives a shout out to Holy Cow, which has the best milkshakes and ice cream cakes I've ever had, so if you're ever in the area you won't be disappointed if you stop there. I do have to say though that true Upstate New Yorkers say they're driving on the Thruway, not I-87.
I was lucky enough to have both a kindle and an audio copy to review. Narration notes: A well done job by both! They were both seriously perfect for the characters.
Overall, an enjoyable psychological read.

*possible spoilers ahead*
Content warning from the author ~ brief references to parental abuse, childhood poverty, and alcoholism, and an incident that includes fat-phobia, plus brief mentions at a few points of the effects that fat-phobia can have.
Mabel & Alfie Mable is ghostwriting Alfie's memoir, but then they find themselves in a fake relationship and obviously fall for each other.
Have you watched Ted Lasso? If not, here's your chance to meet one of the characters, Roy Kent, because I totally believe Aflie is based on him and you can't tell me otherwise. I didn't really find him to be overly grumpy though. I liked how he defended Mabel right from the start when people were talking about her weight.
But...Mabel, really? I'm kind of tired of the whole 'he'll never love me because I'm fat' crap. I could see he was genuine all the way over here in the USA, so open your eyes girl! Yeah fine you're in a fake relationship, so you think he's faking it, but for the love of all that is holy why can't grown adults communicate?! They are in their 30's for Pete's, not F's, sake!!
Okay, so listen, I've been known to swear a time or two or 16, but for the F word to be used 253 times is just overly excessive to me for a 329 page book. Over excessive even if it was a 1,329 or 3,290 page book. It just really turned me off. I did primarily listen to it, so maybe it wouldn't have been as noticeable to me if I had read it.
There were some funny bits, but even the banter got to be too much and I didn't really care for it. There was too much inner monologue and the repeating of phrases was really annoying ~ 'and she laughed, she did laugh,' 'like he had said he would, like he had told her,' 'even though he wasn't, he wasn't at all'...just to name a few. The whole grand gesture was fine I suppose, but one year later....nah, too far in the future.
In conclusion, I wasn't a super big fan if you couldn't tell.
I had both a kindle and an audio copy to review. Narration notes: I guess she was okay, but again when someone is swearing in your ear a bunch you tend to get bugged with them.
Side bar ~ the cover is super cute.

Iris and Gabriel are our narrators. They've just come home early from holiday to an unexpected guest. A guest that might very well outstay their welcome.
They met Laure & Pierre on holiday almost 20 years ago and have remained close since. They live in different countries, but have been known to stay in each others houses from time to time.
They meet Esme & Hugh, who live close by, and soon begin hanging out frequently. Joseph lives on their property and does the gardening for both families.
I didn't really like any of the characters really, especially Laure. I'm not one for extended house guests, or any house guests really, so she for sure overstayed her welcome IMO.
It's pretty much a drama and not a thriller. I wasn't sure how they would, but the side plots all came together nicely with the main one. And while I must say the super long (54 minutes and 15 seconds) epilogue did take me by surprise the leading up to it felt like it took an age. Overall, I can see this one being a big hit with mystery lovers.
I was lucky enough to have an ebook and an audio copy. Narration notes: Emily did an okay job. She was frantic when necessary, but I could have went for a male narrator, which is why I did prefer reading over listening. Her accent was a little difficult for me to understand sometimes as it always sounded like she was saying Law and not Laure. Maybe that's just my American ears.

Emma, Juliette/JJ & Daphne's parents were murdered in their home 14 years ago and the house has been sitting vacant since. The sisters are estranged and the case was never solved. Some of the small town folks think Emma did it, but Emma and husband, Nathan, have fallen on hard times and decide to live there since it's free.
None of the characters were particularly likable in either the present or the past. I figured Nathan was going to be exactly who he was and frankly I'm tired of these husbands and their crap.
Overall, it was pretty predictable with a run of the mill plot. I suppose I liked it well enough, but I was bugged by when in the then timeline things were said like; on a Saturday afternoon less than 12 hours before their parents will be shot to death..., 2 months more of less before she..., 9 hours before she tells the 911 operator her parents are dead. You get my drift. This would be fine if they were having flashbacks, but the story seems to be told as they are living it in the then, so I don't like it. Now I'm wondering if it was written as a sort of heading in the actual book? Please someone confirm that has read it. I suppose if so then that would be fine~ish. BTW ~ this didn't affect my review, just pointing it out.
I enjoyed Kate's debut more than her 2nd adult novel, but will for sure read her next one.
Narration notes: A wonderful job done as usual. There was a slight, yet noticeable, distinction between the sisters voices.

A juicy plot where secrets are plenty and family drama is high. It was a bit of a slow burn, but it kept me engaged and entertained and had a few nice zingers.
Side note ~ I don't know if I noticed this more because I listened to it with my daughter, but holy moly there is an abundance of swearing. F bombing to the max.

Part 1 ~ 1966 ~ California & Vietnam 21 year old Frankie is missing her brother after he heads off to Vietnam with the navy. She enlists with the Army since they're the only branch that will get her over there quickly. This part is full on war and all the chaos that it entails.
Oh Frankie, I salute you for your service, but not for your decision making when it comes to men.
Part 2 ~ 1971 ~ 1982 ~Virginia & California & Montana She has completed her tours and is understandably having a tough time. It really dives deep into how getting back into civilian life is not easy to do. She joins the protests. She tries to look for support, but gets turned away for being a woman and not having actually been in combat. Her journey to get her mental health in check is a long one, but eventually she gets there and uses her experience perfectly in the end.
It was really hard to listen to her father disrespect her time and time again, but different times I suppose. The friendships she made with Ethel and Barb were ones to last a lifetime as they each know what the other has lived through. They'd drop everything to be by her side when she needed them the most (not sure how they were able to get to her so quickly, cuz it's fiction I guess).
Overall, as expected, it was well researched, but I do think this could have been cut down quite a bit.

The prologue is intriguing with a baby stolen from her stroller in the supermarket.
Our main characters are: Frankie~ works in a prison library, teenage daughter missing Patience ~ works at Edith's care facility Clio ~ therapist, mother of kidnapped baby Edith ~mother of Clio
There's mother/daughter drama, some twists and a dog named, Dickens. Slow moving and confusing for quite a bit for me, but eventually we get to the meat of the story and it chugged along at a quicker clip. Overall, not my favorite, but interesting enough, just not as thrilling as I was expecting.

Alyssa and Bree have just met and Alyssa is already offering her a place to stay. Who in their right mind would invite a stranger to live with them? Crazy birds that's who.
Meh, I wasn't overly thrilled with this one. I can't think of one character I liked. It was on the slow side for quite a while, but then eventually picked up a bit. Repetitiveness galore ~ I felt like I was hearing 'soon to be ex-husband' or 'we're separated' a bazillion too many times. I might have zoned out for a few minutes because I am not even sure if the loose end of Tammy (I think that's the housekeepers name) was tied up. I'll round up to 3 since I didn't see a twist coming. This is my first experience with this author and while I wasn't thrilled I will read another one to see if she's for me.
Narration notes: While the narration was done well, I think I might have liked it better if I read it, but I'll never know because I'm not a re-reader.
Nothing to do with anything, but I like how the lipstick matches the author's name on the cover.

Catherine is trying to leave the nest at 24, but her mother, Ruth, is doing everything she can to prevent that from happening. As a mother of a daughter I can say too that I never want my baby to leave me, but at some point I know I'll have to be okay with it. Does Ruth take it a little too far, though? Yep.
I see it's not in the blurb, so I'll be vague~ish ~ I did not like Ruth's lie that she told Catherine in order for her to not move away. This is something that scares me and I hope to never have to experience it in my life. I wish a different lie was told because I do see the reasoning of why she had to protect her.
Why Ruth tells all the lies is not a real mystery to us readers, but it's a mystery to Catherine as she tries to piece together Ruth's life. Ruth writes journal entries that give a glimpse into her past and why she had to hightail it. Is how she got away plausible? Nah, not really. A bit slow going at points with a couple of suspenseful moments. An overall decent thriller.
Narration notes: I suppose Kate did a fine job, but I really could have went for a 2nd narrator. Kate has that younger sounding voice, which was fine for Catherine, but for Ruth she didn't even try to alter her voice to sound different at all. Luckily each chapter stated who was talking, so I wasn't super confused. She hardly gave much emotion at all either. Since it's dual 1st person, with different aged women, I would absolutely expect dual narrators. Honestly, this took me out of the story a little bit, so I'd recommend reading if this is something that might bother you.

Alexis & Sam buy a million dollar fixer up cuz they wanna feel fancy shmancy in this prestigious neighborhood. Blair & Teddy live across the street. When Teddy turns up dead Alexis reaches out to Blair and they form a friendship.
None of the characters were particularly likable. Sam was not a prize husband by any means. And Alexis putting up with him made me not feel any sympathy for her.
Overall, it was a decent~ish, slow moving debut. I gotta say I didn't see the twist coming, so that's always exciting, but I was not a fan and I don't think many would be.
I was fortunate enough to have a kindle and an audio copy. Both were perfectly acceptable. Narration notes ~ Hillary is a well seasoned narrator and did a lovely job. I'm not sure if I've listened to Sarah before, but I thought she did a fine job too.

We have a few main characters, so hallelujah for multiple narrators. Steven ~ husband of Regina, who is home bound. Karla ~ rents from Bill and cleans Steven & Regina's house. Jennica ~ is dating Steven (yup, the same one that's married)
Who killed Steven & Regina is slowly revealed as we go through the multiple pov's, with some interrogation transcripts thrown in. There's a whole cast of unlikable characters that'll keep you wondering. Overall, this wasn't a perfect thriller, but I was invested. I'd give this author a go again.
