As some of you may know I'm in my last summer with my only daughter before she's a senior, so I saw this book as a Hoopla bonus borrow and the title grabbed me, so I grabbed it...well the mother daughter part, not the wilderness part.
I don't really read too many memoirs, especially from people that I've never heard of. I did find it to be well written and I enjoyed the bonding time they shared.
Here are some interesting facts on Mother/Daughter relationships I learned based on Angie's research: They affect future relationships more than any other.
Poor M/D relationships can lead to poor social skills and unhealthy attitude towards eating.
A mothers input shapes a daughters self perception, social confidence and mental health.
They are most important for determining how girls learn to process emotion.
Here are some interesting facts on Father/Daughter relationships I learned based on Angie's research: If they are good, the daughter performs better academically than those with poor relationships.
If good, they secure higher career satisfaction and have emotionally intimate and fulfilling relationships with their partners.
They are more important than M/D relationships to determine happiness and success, and to avoid being talked into sex.
Children learn what they live. Father's being nice to Mother's set an example of what they should have.
Narration notes: I don't have any complaints about her performance.
4⭐ Genre ~ police procedural Series ~ Harley Cole #1 Setting ~ New Mexico Publication date ~ September 1, 2022 Est Page Count ~ 231 (p+ 30 chapters +e) Audi4⭐ Genre ~ police procedural Series ~ Harley Cole #1 Setting ~ New Mexico Publication date ~ September 1, 2022 Est Page Count ~ 231 (p+ 30 chapters +e) Audio length ~ 6 hours 3 minutes Narrator ~ Reagan Tankersley POV ~ multiple 3rd Featuring ~ former military, FBI, serial killer, small town
Harley has been put on leave from the FBI, so she heads to her hometown to see her dying father who she has a strained relationship with. While she's there she might as well help catch a serial killer.
Nothing really new to this genre, but I did enjoy it. It was fast paced and I liked Harley as a character. There was a good amount of action that kept me engaged. I might give the next book a whirl.
Narration notes: Not sure why we have a male narrator when Harley is a woman. He did a good job, though.
3⭐ Genre ~ police procedural Series ~ May Moore #1 Setting ~ Minnesota Publication date ~ book ~ May 17, 2022, audio ~ August 16, 2022 Est Page Count ~ 163⭐ Genre ~ police procedural Series ~ May Moore #1 Setting ~ Minnesota Publication date ~ book ~ May 17, 2022, audio ~ August 16, 2022 Est Page Count ~ 167 (p+ 31 chapters +e) Audio length ~ 5 hours 54 minutes Narrator ~ Melissa Durbin POV ~ single 3rd Featuring ~ serial killer, cold case
May has just been promoted to Deputy Sheriff. Her first case is the dead body of a young woman found in the lake. The same lake her sister disappeared near a few years ago.
Overall, this was fine, nothing groundbreaking. I thought May did a great job investigating. But then her other sister, the hot shot FBI agent, is called on to the case and May is cast aside. I didn't like her parents and sister not being supportive of her.
Narration notes: Didn't seem too excited to narrate, but overall fine. A bit monotone and sounded a little too young for the character. I'm not sure if something was going on with the audio, but some phrases were unnecessarily repeated that didn't seem like they would be written that way in the book.
4⭐ Genre ~ domestic thriller Setting ~ not sure Publication date ~ book ~ April 30, 2023, audio ~ July 18, 2023 Est Page Count ~ 260 (33 chapters) Audio le4⭐ Genre ~ domestic thriller Setting ~ not sure Publication date ~ book ~ April 30, 2023, audio ~ July 18, 2023 Est Page Count ~ 260 (33 chapters) Audio length ~ 5 hours 39 minutes Narrators ~ Andrew Eiden, Kim Churchill POV ~ dual 1st, present tense Featuring ~ known infidelity, blackmail, secrets
Hudson & Willa have an unconventional marriage. He's a gynecologist and also trying to get them out of debt by being a sex worker at night. All's going well on that front until June comes into the picture.
I'm happy to say I liked this one since I'm usually hit or miss with this author. The blackmail was a good one. The twist was nice. It can't be a domestic thriller without some old secrets to keep us in suspense. Overall, enjoyed it.

Narration notes: No complaints. Thrilled there were 2.

Jenna & Kyle were high school sweethearts, but her parents forced her to break up with him. Now years later she's a divorced single mother who can't catch a break and is very much in debt. A little too woe is me with her for me to be honest.
Kyle is a wealthy property investor. He's just purchased a foreclosed house with beautiful beach views. When he goes to tell the owner to vacate the premises he's in for the shock of his life when he sees it's the woman who broke his heart all those years ago.
Overall, a nice second chance story for two people that never really got over each other. Can't say I liked the reason for the breakup, or the quickness of their reconciliation, but I loved how Kyle welcomed 5 year old, Kaitlyn, into his life in an adorable way.

Narration notes: Ugh with only one narrator. She didn't even try to make her voice should manly, which maybe is a good thing. Either way I would have loved a male narrator.

Layla & Will had a smooch when they were in 7th grade, but nothing ever came of it. Now they're in their 20's. He's fresh off a divorce and she doesn't do commitments, so what was she thinking telling her mother they were engaged?
There's a side robbery that being investigated. The culprit was not shocking in the least bit. We're introduced to side characters Onyx and Tanner, our main characters great bffs, who are the focus of the next book in the series.
I'm never a fan of the dreaded 3rd act breakup and my heart was so sad during this one, but on the positive side the reasoning was fully communicated, so at least they know how to talk to each other.
Overall, it was cute and sweet, but I wish it was a little longer. I love the title, too.

Troy is retired from the Navy when the NYPD asks for his help to bring down some terrorists.
I've been bugged lately when police ask civilians to consult on cases. This one is okay with me since he's ex-military. I liked him and Agent Dubois, even though they didn't like each other.
It's fast paced and the action was non-stop, which kept me listening well into the night. I don't read too many espionage thrillers, but this was a hoopla bonus borrow, so I figured what the hay.
Narration notes: I thought he did a great job. He really kept me engaged.

Siena & Jack had a smooch 7 years ago at a college party, but afterwards found out that her new roommate/friend was his sister, so they put a kibosh on any feelings they had towards each other. Flash forward and they are planning Madi's wedding together in France.
Siena was a bit much with her narcotic wedding planning. Something she's doing for her best friend, not because it's her job. She just enjoys planning stuff with handy dandy excel spreadsheets. I'm a fan of spreadsheets myself and had one for my wedding. Jack was a great helping hand.
This was cute. I enjoyed their banter. I mostly liked it a lot, but I could have went without the whole 'I don't want to give us a try because of Madi' business, which wastes 7 years of a life together, but all works out well, of course. I loved what Jack did in the epilogue, it was super cute.
I didn't realize that the wedding couple, Madi and Remy, already had a book together Host for the Holidays, so that makes me a little mad that I didn't read that one first. It's not part of this series, so how was I supposed to know? I wouldn't mind reading more of this series that will following Siena's siblings that we've briefly met here.
Narration notes: I thought they both did a fine job, except their opposite sex voices.

Dakota's ex partner needs her help tracking down a serial killer.
I liked Dakota well enough, but she does a little too much drinking for my liking. The pace was steady and I enjoyed her partner, Marcus. A bit repetitive and predictable, but overall fine.
Another Hoopla bonus borrow that I probably wouldn't have picked up otherwise. Free on Amazon if you want to give it a whirl.
Narration notes: She did okay for the female parts, but not so great on the male ones.
4⭐ Genre ~ contemporary fiction Setting ~ Montana Publication date ~ April 4, 2023 Est Page Count ~ 339 (36 chapters +e) Audio length ~ 9 hours 22 minutes N4⭐ Genre ~ contemporary fiction Setting ~ Montana Publication date ~ April 4, 2023 Est Page Count ~ 339 (36 chapters +e) Audio length ~ 9 hours 22 minutes Narrator ~ Stephanie Richardson POV ~ single 1st Featuring ~ small town, farm life, family drama, slow burn, no steamage
Ellie is just looking for a little peace and quiet for a few days, but she gets anything but when the lady she is renting an airbnb from is rushed to the hospital upon her arrival. Thus sets forth her being right smack dab in the middle of 82 year old Marilyn’s family drama with her daughters. She wasn’t expecting Marilyn’s grandson, Warren, to question her intentions. I did not like their first encounter, I think it could have been done elsewhere.
Ellie has her own family drama she’s dealing with. Her mom was pretty annoying honestly. So when she’s unwillingly thrown into Marilyn’s, as well, she does all she can to be supportive and help this sweet lady out, even if it means wrangling a whole bunch of animals that she has no clue how to take care of.
Overall, I thought this was adorable and a fun time. I really enjoyed the friendship Ellie and Marilyn had. I hope I’ll be as delightful as Marilyn when I’m her age. This is more about Ellie’s growth and less about the romantic feelings forming between her and Warren. There are some funny bits that kept me entertained.
Narration notes: Stephanie did a wonderful job bringing the story to life.

Violet & Lincoln had a misunderstanding when they were younger making them enemies. Now due to politics they're thrown into a fake relationship.
I don't read too many supernatural witchy books, but when I do I always wish I had some fun magical abilities. Perhaps invisibility so I can nose around unseen.
This is my first shifter book. Is this what a shifter book is usually like? I was expecting a little more excitement on that aspect, not sure what exactly, but something.
Overall, fine, but I wasn't overly wowed. Love the cover, though.
Narration notes: She did a fine job, but, as always, I wish there was a male narrator when dual POV.

Morgan is a surgeon helping the FBI when someone is murdered at the hospital.
Does the FBI really request civilians assistance on cases? Especially murders? Doesn't seem plausible to me. I will say it was clever of Morgan to figure out how the murderer was getting his victims though.
Overall, fine. It's fast paced, has short chapters and there's enough action that kept me listening and interested, but ultimately I wasn't blown away. I don't see myself continuing on with the series.
Narration notes: She sounded alright, but why on earth do we have a British narrator for American characters?

BTW - the GR blurb used to be incorrect, which is why you might see some reviews talking about it. I’ve updated the blurb to match Amazon.
